Visitor information
The biggest and best show in the grain-handling industry.
EXPO 2012 Sold Out, Sets New Records
Most Exhibitors Ever: 266
Previous: 263 (Portland, 2011)
Most Booths Ever: 448
Previous: 390 (St. Louis, 2009)
Exhibitors have been signing up in record numbers for next year’s Exchange in Minneapolis. During onsite booth sales during Exchange 2011 in Portland, all 383 booths in the main Expo Hall were reserved. An entire hall has never sold-out before during onsite booth sales. A few months after Exchange 2011, booth space in the expansion exhibit space containing 62 more booths also sold out. GEAPS has been building on the success of the Exchange Expo for years, with sell-outs since 2006 and record breaking numbers of exhibitors and booths. From corner to corner, you’ll find the Expo Hall filled with exhibitors eager to show you their latest, and greatest, products and services. Our exhibitors know that when it comes to connecting face-to-face with the most dedicated grain operations professionals out there, the GEAPS Exchange is the place to be.
Planning and production for Exchange 2012 is well under way. The Educational Programming Committee is already evaluating submissions for the educational program and the Host Advisory Committee is helping with ideas to build on the success of Exchange 2011 in Portland.
The biggest sign that the industry is excited for Exchange 2012 is the overwhelming response to booth sales. During booth sales onsite in Portland, the main hall in Minneapolis sold out. And there is already an extensive waiting list for booths when the expansion area opens up.

Educational Program
If you’re serious about your job and interested in helping your company, you find ways to learn and grow. And if you can’t find great ways to learn and grow at Exchange 2012, you aren’t looking very hard. Over three days, we’ll be providing more than 30 hours of focused education programs, all geared for people in grain operations and related professions. The topics range from pressing issues and regulatory updates to facility safety, equipment maintenance and grain-quality management.
Exchange 2012 will offer a wide range of educational topics—with everything focused sharply the grain-handling industry. Final decisions about the program were made in Minneapolis, Minn., Sept. 15 by GEAPS’ Educational Programming Committee. Led by Chairman Ken Schmenk of the Andersons, the EPC decided to develop:
A three-hour workshop that examines how companies can create a culture of safety
12 different hands-on, expo-hall “pods” featuring process-control equipment
An Idea Exchange, featuring new products and innovations
17 different 45-minute sessions and one double session covering everything from government regulations to hiring good people to conveyor belts used in non-grain industries in South America
“It’s going to be a very diverse program, but the industry has a wide variety of educational needs,” Schmenk said. “Our committee does a great job of finding out what the industry wants, tackling the most important issues, and then finding the experts to make the presentations.”
It’s up to the EPC, a 24-person group of volunteers, to plan, organize and deliver the Exchange educational program, the largest of its type in the world. During the past few years, the program has featured more than 30 hours of educational programming involving more than 45 speakers annually.
At Exchange 2012, the 45-minute sessions will discuss:
The implications of increasing grain production on the grain-handling industry
Standing up to OSHA during the facility-inspection process
Unifying automated systems in grain facilities
Food Defense regulations
Grain-fumigation options
Bin entry and sweep augers
Steel-bin maintenance
Cutting energy costs at grain facilities
Innovations in fall protection
Air monitoring systems
Do-it-yourself disaster planning
Recruiting and retaining good employees
Arc flash safety issues
Managing contractor safety
Combustible-dust regulation and compliance
Creating a preventive maintenance program
Conveyor systems used by non-grain industries
Current research in grain handling and storage (two sessions)
