We in Product Management have been active in writing technical papers that can be presented at trade conferences or that you can distribute to customers to increase their level of knowledge and understanding. While some are reviewed by industry peers for technical content and are only accepted and published after review, others follow a less formal process but are none the less very instructional and full of information.

A paper entitled PAS for online DGA monitoring was recently reviewed and published by NETA in the February edition of their monthly magazine. The mission of the InterNational Electrical Testing Association (NETA) is to serve the electrical testing industry by establishing standards, publishing specifications, accrediting independent third-party testing companies, certifying test technicians and promoting the professional services of its members. This article under the NETA banner gave great coverage of our Photo Acoustic Spectroscopy technology and clearly outlined the advantages of our technology compared to the more traditional GC technology.

Another two part white paper entitled New Era Transformer Fleet Management was also prepared and released. Part 1 covers the challenges encountered by utilities in realizing their condition monitoring vision while part 2 covers the solutions afforded by using modern new era asset fleet management software. These two papers are fairly long and cover the issues in some depth and can be used as a good reference for customers as they will recognise some of their pain points and how a software like Perception can help them.

All these papers are available to download from the ITP site under the heading Application Examples and then GE Technical papers.

GE M&Ds Latest Technical Papers Last month, GE M&D attended the International

Conference of Doble Clients in Boston, USA. We had a stand as usual where we showcased our product range and where we introduced our new TRANSFIX DGA 500.

We met with a number of our key North American customers, including Duke, Southern California Edison (SCE) and Southern Company (SoCo). Im pleased to report that every single customer I met with spoke highly of their recent experiences with GE M&D and were positive about our strategy of focusing on improving product quality and the total M&D experience for our customers.

The attendance also had an international flavour and we were able to keep an eye on our competitors and gauge any new development. All in all, a good show for our customers to take a pulse on the transformer industry and for us to introduce our latest product.

We have sent you 2 weeks ago a separate email inviting your company to participate in the 2015 GE Monitoring & Diagnostics (M&D) Annual ITP Survey.

The aim of this survey is to look at how GE M&D and its ITP partners work together and how we can best help you further. We ran a similar survey last year and would like to see if you have felt the resulting improvements we have made in 2014. We would also like to better understand how we can help you further and form a better and closer working relationship. The survey is available online at: https://ulstersocialsciences.az1.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_elhHPWwBozzOs0l

Please take the 5-10 minutes it takes to answer the multiple choice questions. You can even do it from your smart phone as it reformats to fit.

It would be much appreciated if you could try and do it in the next few days.We will of course publish the results in aggregate like last year to give you feedback. So far, only 12 ITPs have answered and 18 others have started the survey but not completed it . So please make sure you complete the on-line survey. Looking forward to reading your results and comments.

Over the past 30 years the Hydran Technology has primarily been used on transformers operating with mineral based oils. Today the market is changing and some customers are starting to move towards more efficient and safer Ester based oils.

Natural Ester based insulating fluids are derived from renewable vegetable oils which provide customers with both environmental and operating benefits. Ester based oils address the shortcomings of mineral oil: high flammability, poor moisture tolerance and high environmental impact. Due to their safety characteristics, they are an ideal choice for transformers positioned indoors, underground and in densely populated areas.

GE is pleased to announce that after extensive testing, the Hydran sensor technology has been approved to work on transformers that are operating with either Natural Ester or Synthetic Ester based oils. The family of products based on the Hydran technology (Hydran 201Ti, Hydran M2 and the Intellix GLA 100) can therefore, all be used on transformers with the following insulating oils:

Mineral based oils - calibrated in Voltesso 35 manufactured by Mobil Natural Ester based oils - calibrated using Envirotemp FR3 manufactured by Cargill Synthetic Ester based oils calibrated using Midel 7131 manufactured by M&I Materials

In order to achieve the best possible accuracy when using different types of oil, we calibrate sensors in the 3 different types of oil stated above. You must therefore, state what oil is going to be used in the transformer to be monitored and order the appropriate version of the DGA monitoring product.

Example: Hydran M2 will now be available with 3 different part numbers:

Hydran_M2 For mineral oil Hydran_M2-NE For natural Ester based fluids Hydran_M2-SE For natural Ester based fluids

(The price list will be updated shortly)
