iGCSE Coursework – Written Work Three pieces, all 500-800 word long, to be completed by Monday 30th November 20151. Assignment 1 – Writing to Inform – A speech with the title

‘How to Make the World a Better Place.’ Students will be able to choose their own topic to research and discuss, for example, racism, homophobia or education.

2. Assignment 2 – Writing to Describe – Students will be writing a description, using an image, title or sound as inspiration.

3. Assignment 3 – Responding to a Text – Students will be given a text about ‘The Naked Rambler’ and his prison

sentences. They will be writing an argumentative response to the text.

iGCSE Coursework – Speaking and Listening

Three assessments, to be completed by

Monday 30th November 2015

1. Group – Classroom assessed – Students will be observed by their class teacher during group discussion throughout the term.

2. Individual – Recorded – Students will be asked to prepare a 3 minute speech on a topic of their choice which will be assessed and recorded in exam conditions.

3. Pair – Recorded – Students will be asked to prepare a discussion with a partner which will be assessed and recorded in exam conditions.

Spelling, Punctuation & Grammar

Spelling, punctuation and grammar is now marked in subjects other than English. In English and English Literature it accounts for 20% of the overall grade, but it is also worth 5% of the marks in subjects such as History and Geography.

Spelling, punctuation and grammar is a weakness for many students and is a key area for development. Please encourage them to work on this element of their work. This could be done by completing grammar exercises or simply by urging them to proofread and correct their own independent work.

After School Booster Sessions

• Fridays until 4.30pm starting 18th September

• Invited students – those invited will be revisited every six weeks.

• Sessions will be focused on writing skills and personalised for those students attending.

• Two groups: C/D group and A*-B group.

Last year’s Year 11 Students achieved

Support StrategiesRevision Sessions – Past Paper Exam Club Sessions will also take place on Saturdays throughout the year leading up to the exam

Most able Clubs + one to one tuition

Additional Classes – Students have also been scheduled for two extra maths lesson every Monday and Thursday with either Ms Raphael, Mrs Fogarty or myself to solely practise their exam technique.

Revision guides & Equipment– All year 11 students are encouraged to purchase revision books. Personal calculators are also available for lessons however students are expected to have their own in addition to a full geometry set.

Residential Trips – Targeted students will be invited on a subsidised residential trip in December in collaboration with the English Department.
