4 Greeley County Republican Tribune, Kansas Wednesday, November 27, 2019 Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! Greeley County Community Development will be closed Thursday and Friday of this week for the Thanksgiving holiday. I hope you have a wonderful holiday and find countless reasons to be grateful, while enjoying entirely too much food. On Friday, I’d encourage you to make your way around town and to the CYAT Center for the Very Merry Market, now in its second year. The Very Merry Market is a unique shopping featuring jewelry, handmade soaps, home decor, hand-painted signs, holiday graphic tees, boutique clothing, Christmas decor, wooden signs, and much more! Several Tribune businesses will also have specials and offer Black Friday deals. As always, we enjoyed the Christmas Open House on Friday night. We so love to see downtown come to life with people for the event, enjoying a variety of fun activities and shopping in our local businesses that work devotedly to bring us the products and services we need throughout the year. We are so grateful for the time, energy, and extra work so many dedicate to making the evening come to life! In honor of Global Entrepreneurship Week, we encouraged those taking part in the Christmas Open House to share their answers to these questions on the window of our office and City Hall’s window, as well as on the Rundell building next door. The questions were: - Why did you move here? - What do you like about Greeley County? - What would help Greeley County thrive? - What would thrive in Greeley County? Thanks to all who shared their thoughts and ideas with us and the community! Stop by and take a look to see what your fellow community members had to share – you’ll likely find some humor in the answers, especially to the question “Why did you move here?” If you’d like to add your answers to the windows, send us a message at [email protected] or stop by during office hours and we’ll get you a chalk marker. Myers Implement 376-4299 • Tribune, KS Jeffs Plumbing, LLC Jeff Nolan . 3 3 Cutting Edge Unified Greeley County supervisors Monty Moritz, Alena Ballinger, Kirby Kleymann, Corbin Myers, and Scott Steele met Monday, November 25, 2019, in a regular meeting. Also present were public works director Brock Sloan, public works administrator Gina Bond, county clerk Jerri Young, and road department superintendent LuVern Lang. Kleymann called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. The agenda was approved. Mark Rine, sheriff, and Alisha Markley of the Sheriffs Department explained two projects they are working on. One is an NG911 grant award that has been received by the Sheriff’s department to be used for the updating of the office’s communications systems. Rine said that $66,000 of the project cost could come from the county’s 911 fund and $45,380.67 would be the grant funds. This is a major update that needs to be done, he added. A motion was made by Myers to approve the project at the costs suggested; motion was seconded and passed unanimously. The second project is to upgrade the current duress alarm system, for a price of $17,750. This is an alarm system to send an alert to the sheriff’s office that aid is needed. There are alarm buttons in various county offices, in the hospital and city hall. The quote is for the whole system and the hospital would reimburse its share. The current alarm system won’t work with the new renovation at the hospital and they want to do the upgrade. A motion was made by Moritz to purchase the Wave Plus duress alarm system for $17,750; motion was seconded by Ballinger and passed unanimously. Brock Sloan reported that the new tractor may be here next month. Christy Hopkins presented a draft letter of support from the supervisors for the Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP). A motion was made by Myers to approve Chairman Kleymann to sign the letter of support, stating that supervisors agree to commit $10,000 a year in in-kind heavy equipment and manpower aid over the next five years, mainly for the renovation of the playa lakes in Greeley County which could then replenish the aquifer. Copies of the current resolution establishing dates and time of supervisor meetings were distributed by Bond. Supervisors have been talking about changing from three meetings a month to two meetings a month. In discussion, supervisors suggested two meetings a month, with the first meeting to be held on the second Monday of every month at 9:30 a.m. and the second meeting on the fourth Monday of the month at 5:00 p.m. They will decide for sure at the next meeting. Bond payment request number 24 for the hospital renovation project was presented in the amount of $259,030.99. A motion was made by Myers to approve the request, motion seconded by Moritz and unanimously passed. UGC pay increase options were distributed by Bond for supervisors to review. Lang reported on road department projects and equipment. He also has been getting information on recycling trailer repair or replacement. A motion was made by Moritz to purchase running gear for the recycling trailer for $800 from Alex’s in Goodland. Motion was seconded by Steele and passed unanimously. Bills were reviewed and approved unanimously for GSD for $29,075.64 and $291.28 for MSD. Minutes of the November 12, 2019 meeting and November 12, 2019 canvassing meeting were approved 4-0 with Ballinger abstaining because she was absent. Kleymann brought up the topic of Greeley County hosting the Little KAC meeting and how much should be spent on it. Also discussed was whether it should be done at all. It is a very busy time of year. Official minutes of supervisors’ meetings are available at the county clerk’s office. Supervisors meet
