ELECTIONS 2011

One boon of being a Government college is the opportunity to host anumber of government programmes and welfare schemes. One suchprecious chance the students availed of was being a student volunteerfor the recently concluded TN Assembly elections. The students weretrained by experts to handle webcams and thereby relay the livetelecast of the entire day’s proceedings at each polling booth. Theactivities of the booth were covered live to be watched by the ChiefElectoral Officer at Chennai. The students had a great opportunity towitness the polling processes at such a young age wherein many stillhaven’t got their voter IDs. A few lucky candidates were also givenan insight on the working of an Electronic Voting Machines andshowed how the counting was done. It was a lovely experience to getalong with the higher electoral officers and staff from variousgovernment sectors. To add to the joy of the students, they were paida sum of Rs.700/- for their service.
