PLEASE NOTE CRIME TRENDS: Make no mistake, confrontation crim e is escalating!! Thecriminals are aggressive and time of day means nothing! Whether its an AGGRAVATED ASSAULT crime, CTA

crimes and ROBBERY, its happening during any time of the day, or evening. SPECIAL ALERT: A pair of 20-something, young AA males are walking and then robbing folksusually in the alley! There have beenthree (3) incidents that have occurred: 76th & Prairie (on front street); 82nd & Michigan and 79th & Statetook place in the alley.Another incident took place in the alley on Wednesday, May 1st at 85th andPrairie. A resident was talking with a guest when robbed. The two perps dress like they live in our areaand use a gun! These criminals are hoping to see if a resident is coming out in the alley to empty garbage, opetheir garage door as they do some work, or pull their car out. If you see two men walking down the alley that youdont know, dont wait until they walk up on you! Get defensive and go back into your home. Then call thepolice! They have robbed their victims at different times ofthe day and evening. If you happen to be driv-ing through the alley to your garage and see some suspicious guys, try to remember what they are wearing. Butdont confront them! Just call the police! If they are truly neighbors, let the police figure it out! Summer is comingand they arent playing! SO WHY SHOULD WE!! NEW SCAM: Con artists impersonating COMED WORK-

ERS. Scammers insist you must buy a prepaid credit card to avoid a service shut off. NOT TRUE!!

THE CTA REDLINE PROJECT contd:The last time traffic was diverted to side streets in ourcommunity, the end result was lots of strangers driving through our area. Ultimately, over time, this led to anincrease of criminal predators eye-balling our communitys goods so to speak. Thats when burglaries reallyspiked! If CTA is going to create this hyper bubble of traffic flux, then you would think they would have developeda major, security plan with the Chicago Police to protect us-not just toss out a few, token security guards to looklike they are doing something on paper. CTA crimes in our area have increased! See summary stats. Furthermore,in this struggling economy, closing down any of our main business streets could lead to a total disruption anddemise of our local, small businesses. Could it be that because there is so much unemployment in ourAfrican-American community, so many seniors living in our community and so many vacant businesses inour small, business districts that CTA thinks they can just shove any thing down our throats without getting ourinput? Just asking? GCA wants you to know that we requested in writing that a CTA senior managementrepresentative come to a special Town Hall Meeting to explain to us whats really going on before their May 18

    th

launch date. We also made calls! We asked for answers to those rumors! WE GOT NOTHING!

PRESIDENT VONILS MESSAGE: On behalf of GCA, I extend our appreciation for all the support thiscommunity provides to us. We are aware of the many concerns about the closing of the Dan Ryan Red Line forextensive and much needed repairs. This project will bring some disruption to many lives. While we are not yetsure of the extent of this disruption, we are, however, sure that the total picture has not been drawn. It will be thetask of all us to monitor this project and to insist on adjustment as may be required. Remember, GCA stands readyto hear and assist in addressing your concerns.

The City's New Commissioner of Streets and Sanitation hasGiven Our Community the Green Light to Make War on

Properties filled with Trash! No Offenders will be Spared!

Okay neighbors: no more playing around with businesses, vacant lots, foreclosed property, unfenced dumping grounds, unkempt house or apartment residences with trash and litterscattered everywhere! If you missed our April GCA meeting, heres the "Call to Action."

GCA was told that Street and Sanitation, under our new Commissioner, expects us to be vigilaand completely report every offender that we see by following the protocol below. If we report itStreet and Sanitation said the "fine" sledgehammerwill be coming down left and right. Believe it! Theven took the first wave of offensive property addresses at our April meeting! See what you missed

Heres the protocol you must follow:1. CALL 311 AND SAY "I want to report to Streets andSanitation a business property (or say vacant lot, foreclosed home, abandoned building, apartmentbuilding, or residential home) that has a lot of trash and garbage on, or around their premises. Next, give the exact or approximate street address / location. Then ask for a service number. Alwayskeep a record of the date you called and the service number. It really helps to take a photo of

the offending property!2. WAIT 10 DAYS. If nothing happensmeaning you pass by the location and see the same garbagsituation, repeat process number one again (see above). Yes, it's frustrating to do it again. But the citywants to make sure that its not "311" that dropped the ball.

    3. WAIT 10 MORE DAYS TO SEE IF THE TRASH HAS BEEN REMOVED. If nothing has happenecall the GCA phone line at 773.635.6500, or email GCA at [email protected]. Tell us thename of the business, the address / location and the service number complaint. If it's not a businessthen, please, identify the kind of property it is. We will directly pass this info to the 6th Ward Supt.Paul Bryson and keep a record.

    4. 10 more days have to pass to see if the situation has been rectified. . If not,, then CALL GCAGCA was told by the Deputy Commissioner of Streets and Sanitation to directly contact tKEVIN LOMAX, a Neighborhood Outreach Coordinator for Streets and Sanitation...

GCA was assured that if it reaches this level, the business or property owner will receive a fineBusinesses get fined $500 for the first time! If the proprietors or owners do not comply, they willreceive another higher fine (second fine). Lastly, if they receive a third fine ticket, they have to coto court where the city is going to get pretty tough i.e., you can lose your license or property
