3.7 Network configuration

Configuring the input devices

Each GB60 BB that is directly connected to a NMEA0183 sensor device (GPS, etc.) needs to be configured separately to receive this information. This configuration has to be performed before the GB60 BB is connected to the network.

See Configuring the input ports page 28 for more information.

Enabling the network

This settings described below must be selected on each GB60 system that should share data.

1 Disconnect all GB60 BB from the network and start each separate GB60 system

2 Verify that each installation is working properly

3 Connect all computers to the network

4 Select the GlassBridge Network tab in the Options dialog

− The network identity will default to the name of the GB60 BB. A new name may be entered if required

5 Click Enable Advanced Networking

6 Click Accept Active Waypoints from other Computers

− Whenever another station creates or moves an active waypoint, this station will update accordingly

7 Chose one of the Chart Sharing options (Ask, Yes or No)

− Ask will prompt the user each time the GB60 BB is started whether or not to share charts. Yes will share all Passport charts each time the program opens and No turns chart sharing off

8 Check Share Radar Targets if appropriate

9 Check Routes and Marks Home-location for all Nav Objects on the GB60 BB that will be the server for the other GB60 BBs on the network

10 Select one of the options for Accept Nav Objects From Other Stations (Prompt or Accept All)

11 Repeat steps 4-9 to configure each GB60 BB

The settings will not take effect before the system is restarted!

Data sharing

Two types of data that can be shared on the network: Processed and Raw data.

Raw data comes into the GB60 system from any NMEA0183 device, while processed data is produced in the GB60 system itself. GPS position is an example of Raw NMEA0183 data. If more than one GPS is connected to one of the GB60 BBs on the network, the port priorities are used to set the GPS priority. By default, GB60 will share the position reference as Processed Data on the network. This means that it is not necessary to set a priority for position on each of the other computers on the network.

The data sharing options are set in the Data Sharing tab in the Optons dialog.

The following options are available:

OPTION DESCRIPTION

Processed NMEA Sharing

Auto Detect Mode: Automatically listens to the GlassBridge Network at startup to determine whether to send Processed NMEA Data to other computers or to listen. This decision is based on what network computers are currently doing and what navigation inputs are directly (physically) connected to the computer. This is the default setting.

Send Processed NMEA /

Listen for Processed NMEA: Explicitly sends/listens to Processed data

None: No Processed data sent or retrieved

Raw NMEA Sharing Sends or receives Raw NMEA data on the network. Basically used for sharing NMEA data that is not vessel related, such as AIS target information or external radar targets.

Repeater Ports Designates the COM ports that will be used to output or repeat all received data. Repeater ports should only be used to forward NMEA data to other devices.

Select repeater options in the COMn Repeater Configuration dialog

It is recommended to use Processed NMEA data sharing. In cases where both Processed and Raw data is received, processed data takes priority. This is more efficient and also reduces the configuration issues.

3.8 Identifying the video inputs Up to 4 devices with a composite video output can be connected to a GB60 VSI and GB60 VSI&RSI system via the Video input ports on GB60 BB.

A video signal can not be shared on the network. The video device and the monitors that should be set up with a video view must be connected to the same GB60 BB!

When a video device is connected and recognized by the GB60 software, the device are named or renamed in the Video tab in the Options dialog.

When the video device is installed, settings and stream format should be adjusted from an active video window as described below.

Adjusting video device settings

The video device settings should be set according to the specifications for the connected device.

The settings are adjusted in the Video Decoder and Video Proc Amp tabs in the Properties dialog, activated by selecting the Adjust Settings command in the video pop-up menu.

4.1 The Permit code GB60 uses Passport World Charts and Passport Deluxe charts (available for specific locations in North America) from Jeppesen Marine.

When delivered from factory a default large-scale world chart is installed on the GB system, and a DVD with the Passport World Folio (WF) database will follow the system.

The WF chart database contains the entire world of vector charts. All chart regions are however encrypted, and a permit code for selected region(s) has to be obtained from a Simrad dealer or directly from Jeppesen Marine (www.passportonboard.com) before the system can be used.

When the permit code is created by Jeppesen, they will send a DVD with the latest updated world charts to the customer. The permit code will unlock the purchased regions on the latest charts sent on the CD.

As the charts are updated regularly, the DVD shipped with the system may not contain the latest updated world charts. These charts should therefore only be installed if it is impossible to retrieve the new DVD from Jeppesen before the system should be used.

The permit code will unlock also previously released databases.

The permit code is based on a unique system ID provided for each GB60BB. The system ID (also called the dongle ID) will be stored as the customers ID at Jeppesen Marine.

Passport OnBoard0092-427587-7802-945177

The system ID is found on a sticker located nearby the hardware identification sticker on GB60BB’s side panel.
