Who's Who Jenifer Balch has produced several of Rover Dramawerks' comedic productions side by side with Director Carol Rice. She enjoys watching the creativity others portray on the stage and Carol's talent for bringing a script to life. Jenifer is passionate about promoting the Arts in Plano. She serves Rover as the President of the Board when she is not serving clients at her law firm of Curran Tomko Tarski LLP. Charles Bates is excited to make his return to the Texas stage as a part of Rover Dramawerks’ production of Epic Proportions. Charles has spent the last several years in California performing with Palos Verdes Players in the shows Laughter on the 23rd Floor, How I Learned to Drive, and Almost Home: A One Act Festival. He also worked with Coconut Productions on Wonder of the World as Kip, and had a 3 show run with “Serial Killers” at Sacred Fools Theater with the show Pieanoxity. Charles returns to Plano where he last worked with Plano Repertory Theater on Not About Nightingales and received a Leon Rabin nomination for his role as Vinnie in Proposals. While not on stage he has enjoyed doing everything from stage managing, directing, producing, to house managing, and beyond. Charles would like to thank the wonderful cast and crew of Epic Proportions; and his very supportive wife Molly, for always being his biggest fan. Kelsey Boutte holds a BFA in Tech & Design from Texas State University. She was previously properties designer for Austin Shakespeare’s production of An Ideal Husband. She also designed for Texas State’s productions of Company (2008), A Chorus Line (2007), and The Importance of Being Earnest (2007). In 2008, she won a properties design award at KCACTF Region VI. Kelsey’s passion and experience lies not only in properties, but also in scenic and makeup artistry. Ultimately she plans on pursuing a career in special effects makeup. This is her first production with Rover Dramawerks.

Grisel Cambiasso is super excited to work with Rover Dramawerks and is happy to be surrounded by such wonderful and talented people in this cast. She has worked in many theatre productions lately, starting with Dante’s Inferno with MBS Productions, Don Juan Tenorio the Vampire with Teatro Dallas, and Conchita in Anna in the Tropics with DCT. She was also in the brutal and bloody Oedipus Rex with MBS, playing Teresias and part of the chorus. She is delighted to have the opportunity to play different characters in this play and views every new production as a new and exciting challenge. Grisel is originally from Uruguay, a small and beautiful country in South America, but decided to venture for the American Dream. “It’s been a little bit like this play.” Michael Campbell is a product of the University of Texas Theater Program. After UT he spent two years as the repertory designer for Austin Shakespeare Festival and One World Theater. Show credits include Romeo and Juliet, Titus Andronicus, The Winters Tale, Julius Caesar (all ASF), Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Border Voices (Austin Area Theater Co-Op), A Christmas Carol (Austin Playhouse), Mack and Mabel (Theatre Three), the regional premiere of Die Mommy Die (Uptown Players), the world premier of Weight (University of Texas Theater Department), Guys and Dolls, Big River, Rags, To Kill a Mockingbird, and others. He has been a part of many award winning production teams (two B Iden Payne Awards and two Austin Critics Table Awards) and received individual accolades (Column Award Nomination) in both Austin and Dallas. This is his first show for Rover Dramawerks. All the praise and glory goes to God, and many thanks to his parents and fiancée (for all their support).

Chuck Catty is enthusiastic about participating in his first Rover production. Chuck has previously performed in High School Life, My Friend Jeffrey, and The New Adventures of Rollie-Pollie Girl. When not performing, Chuck also enjoys writing, directing, and stage work for various productions. Chick would like to thank the cast and crew of Epic Proportions and his wonderful family. He would also like to thank his pastor, Don, for his years of support and his loving girlfriend, Erica, who is his biggest fan and constant motivation. Suzi Cranford is working with Rover Dramawerks for the third time. Her designs were seen last season in Shakespeare in Hollywood, directed by Carol Rice, and this season in Around the World in 80 Days, directed by Jason Rice. Suzi is associate designer at Dallas Costume Shoppe. Joe Cucinotti is proud to come out of retirement for one more show with Carol Rice and this wonderful Rover family. He was last seen playing Norman Cornell in Rice's The Star-Spangled Girl back in January. Joe is a former Dallas radio personality and he's looking for a gig. Anyone? Anyone? In early 2010, Joe will be directing his stage musical, The Rise and Fall of Radio Through the Eyes of Rose Kelly, at the Courtyard Theater. He is also a co-creator, writer, and director of a new web series called Variants. Described as "a live action web comic", this comedy explores life as seen from the other side of the counter of your favorite comic book shop. More info at www.thevariants.com. Joe would like to thank his friends and family for their constant support. Special thanks to Carol for casting him, thus ending his retirement, and for the opportunity to work with another talented and wonderful cast and crew.

Rover's Mission Searching for treasures, new and rediscovered,

for theatre "off the beaten path."

Rover Dramawerks produces lost or forgotten works of well-known authors, revives excellent scripts that have suffered from lack of exposure,

and discovers unknown gems of the stage.

Claude Diaz is so happy to be working again for Rover, and in particular, with Carol Rice. He says: “After a long career in film and T.V., this is the best way to end my pro life. My thanks to Carol and Rover.” Matthew J. Fisher is beyond thrilled to make his return to stage, after a 5-year absence from theatre, with Rover Dramawerks. Matthew, a 24-year old B.A. in Theatre graduate from the University of North Texas, is looking to make a name for himself in the Metroplex before potentially moving on to huge things elsewhere. His passion is voice acting, and he is having a blast bringing so many different characters to life! This cast has been instrumental in renewing his love of theatre – they will always be his friends and will always be in his heart. His heartfelt thanks goes out to his mother, father, sister, and extended family for always supporting him and loving him, Core Talent and the Andrions, as well as teachers Sally Vahle, Mario Tooch, Kathy Leos, Kit Sawyer, Terry May, John Athas, and his most supportive friends DeNae and Amy and his amazing girlfriend Olivia. Last, but most certainly not least, he thanks his Starbucks family – the greatest team he’s ever worked with, and the most amazing customers to be found anywhere – at Custer Road & 15th Street. Matt Fowler has been seen all around the Metroplex for the last four years (mostly at the 7 Eleven). Matt's choreography credits include Tomorrow is Forever at the Pocket Sandwich Theatre, Don Juan Tenorio the Vampire with Teatro Dallas, Hamlet and Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead at the Dallas Hub, and This is Our Youth by Upstart Productions and Project X. This is Matt's first show credit as solely choreographer, and it has been a breath of fresh air. He would like to thank Carol, Kelsey, and the wonderful cast of Epic Proportions. Good Show! Patrick Lynwood Henry graduated in 2007 with his B.S. in Theatre, and he’s happy to make his first appearance with Rover. His favorite roles include Skip Hampton in Luann Hampton Laverty Oberlander, Grampa Sycamore in You Can’t Take It With You, and The White Rabbit in Alice in Wonderland. His next performance will be at the first annual Texas Play Festival in A Cloud of Witnesses. He would like to thank God, his mom and dad, Aunt Patricia, and the rest of his friends and family who have supported him over the years. This is Sonya Jones’ first production with Rover Dramawerks. She graduated from Emerson College with a BA in Theatre Education, and she is currently pursuing a career in teaching. While this is her first show as a stage manager, she has had the opportunity to direct several other plays. Her favorites have been The House at Pooh Corner at Plano West Sr. High School and An Infinite Ache at Emerson College. Sonya would like to thank the cast and crew of Epic Proportions for making her laugh and being so epically awesome throughout this process. Erica Rémi Lorca is pleased to make her Rover debut. Some of her favorite set designs in the past include Noises Off, Sabrina Fair, A Comedy of Errors, and Towards Zero. Erica is new to the area and looks forward to getting more involved in the local theater scene and specifically with Rover Dramawerks. Anna McLaughlin graduated from Rose Bruford Drama Conservatory in London, England where she received her BA (hons) degree in theatre. After graduation she moved to New York City where she performed in her most memorable roles as Shirley in Ronald Ribman's Buck at the Blue Heron Theatre and Bettie in Homecoming Queen at the Medicine Show Theatre. She has recently returned to her Texas roots and is happy to be making her debut with Rover Dramawerks. She wants to thank Stacie and John for their support. Anna is currently represented by The Agency.

Bill Mercer was born in 1926 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II and going to college, he worked in radio stations in Oklahoma, Colorado, and Texas. He came to Dallas in 1953 as a staff and sports announcer on KRLD AM-FM-TV and has been a sports announcer for such teams as the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, and Chicago White Sox. Past plays include Night Must Fall (Best Actor Award), Moony’s Kid Don’t Cry, No Time for Sergeants, You Know I Can’t Hear You When the Water’s Running, Waiting for Godot, and with Rover, The Ride Down Mt. Morgan. He is co-author of When the News Went Live and author of Play by Play (a sports history and memoir). He sends love to his wife Ilene, four children, and seven granddaughters. Carol M. Rice is the Artistic Director of Rover Dramawerks, as well as one of the co-founders, and has been involved in some way with every show Rover has done. She most recently directed Rover’s hits The Star-Spangled Girl, Shakespeare in Hollywood and Gilligan’s Island: the Musical. Some of her other favorite directing efforts include Morphic Resonance, Witness for the Prosecution, The Compleat Works of Wllm Shkspr (abridged), and Lady Windermere’s Fan, and she will be directing the Regional Premiere of Mark Twain’s A Murder, a Mystery & a Marriage for Rover next season. Carol is also a playwright, and her World Premiere adaption of Jules Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days was at the Courtyard Theater this past March. Despite her absolute love of theatre, her favorite roles are Wife to best friend Jason and Mommy to Stephen and Scott. Jason Rice has been on the Rover board since it was founded and is the current Vice President of Production. He has designed sound for such shows as Veronica’s Room, Mary’s Wedding, Private Eyes, The Compleat Works of Wllm Shkspr (abridged), Night Must Fall, and Light Up the Sky. He has received awards for acting and sound design, and he has written several custom murder mysteries and one-act plays. Jason has composed music for both live theatre and video, receiving the Aegis Award for his

Meet Taylor Maupin!

Rover Dramawerks has been honored over the past few weeks to host an intern through Texas Nonprofit Theatres. We have been delighted to get to work with Taylor Maupin as our intern.

And we’ve been keeping him busy! So far, he's taught at our drama camps and run lights and sound for a camp showcase, attended the Plano Chamber of Commerce Business Interchange with one of our board members, attended a TCA grant webinar, helped clean out our scene shop, worked box office and helped with strike for Days of Wine and Roses, looked at some commercial real estate (possible location for our

new scene shop), built and modified some props, attended production meetings and helped out at rehearsals for Epic Proportions, and put up posters in store windows all over town. Taylor was instrumental in getting the set built for Epic Proportions, he built the back stairs for the audience seating area, and those of you attending the show the first two weekends were welcomed by him at the box office! We’re also making sure he gets a sampling of what the other theatres in the area have to offer by taking him to shows at the Pocket Sandwich Theatre, Shakespeare Dallas, and MBS Productions, to name a few.

James Taylor Maupin IV is a senior Theatre Major at Texas A&M University - Kingsville, where he has been involved in over 25 mainstage shows. He also spent five weeks at Angelo Civic Theatre in San Angelo as their intern through TNT. Taylor is with us through July 30, and we’ll miss him when he’s gone. We think he has a very bright future in theatre.

Texas Nonprofit Theatres is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the theatres of Texas and the communities they serve. TNT, with the support of the Texas Commission on the Arts, sponsors internships to address the needs of theatres for qualified assistance, and the need of students for information about theatre careers and for job opportunities in the field.

The goal of the program is to expose students to the theatre profession by: • providing firsthand experience working with and in theatres; • giving an overview of current issues in the profession; • facilitating job opportunities through contacts made in the Texas theatre community.

Please visit www.texastheatres.org for more information about TNT.

original composition for Matt Kaufman’s film short Willoughby. Some of the plays he has directed for Rover include Around the World in 80 Days, The Baltimore Waltz, The Runner Stumbles, Bags, and War of the Worlds, and he will be directing the Regional Premiere of Premiere! next season. As much fun as theater is, Jason’s favorite role is Daddy to Stephen and Scott. “What’s my motivation for ‘Because I said so!’?” He sends special thanks to Rich Frolich for the kitchen sink. R. Bradford Smith previously performed with Rover Dramawerks in One Day Only 4 (as Prince Doug in Carol Rice’s Power Makes the World Go Round) and is proud to make his debut in a full production with the company. Favorite roles include: Old Deuteronomy in Cats (GCT); Birdboot in The Real Inspector Hound (The Hub Theater); and Daddy Warbucks in Annie (KCCT). Additionally, he was met with critical acclaim for his portrayal of Lucky in Waiting for Godot (Risk Theater Initiative) and won a Column Award for playing Ernst Ludwig in Cabaret (FMPAT). Brad made a “day job” career change a couple of years ago and will be starting his third school year as the general music teacher for Annie Webb Blanton Elementary School in Pleasant Grove. He dedicates his performance to the memory of his late grandmother, Mary Bradford. Mark-Brian Sonna was raised in Irapuato, Mexico, and moved to Dallas to finish high school and studied theatre at Arts Magnet High School. He worked as a classical ballet dancer in the North Texas area through most of the 1980s. Over the past 25 years, he has directed, danced, choreographed, written, and acted in more the 70 shows. Mark-Brian is the founder of MBS Productions, with whom he most recently portrayed Yorick in A New Drama, Oedipus in Oedipus Rex and earned a Column Award nomination for his portrayal of Satan in Dante: Inferno. His new play, John XIII, runs at the Stone Cottage in Addison through August 1. Rover’s 10th Anniversary Season

Rover Dramawerks is pleased...no, THRILLED to announce

Premiere! by Dale Wasserman (author of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest)

October 29 - November 21, 2009, Cox Building Playhouse

From the creator of one of the most famous of petty tyrants comes a look at the petty tyranny of fame. Gil is the comedic playwright of his day, doomed to hit after hit when all he wants is to be taken seriously, darkly, academically. Like...dare he say it? The Bard. A hilarious series of events leads to the discovery of a "new" long lost tragedy by William Shakespeare. Will the truth be uncovered or will the literary world be fooled forever?

We’re kicking off our season with a Regional Premiere CALLED Premiere!

Rabbit Hole by David Lindsay-Abaire (author of Fuddy Meers and Kimberly Akimbo)

January 21 - February 13, 2010, Cox Building Playhouse

Becca and Howie have everything a family could want until the unthinkable happens, turning their world upside down. Their well-meaning family members do their best to help (and deal with the tragedy themselves), as everyone tries to come to grips with their grief. Rabbit Hole charts their bittersweet search for comfort in the darkest of places and for a path that will lead them all back into the light of day. Winner of the 2007 Pulitzer Prize.

A Regional Premiere, soon to hit the silver screen!

Mark Twain’s A Murder, a Mystery & a Marriage a musical by Aaron Posner and James Sugg

(based on a long-lost short story by Mark Twain) March 4-20, 2010, Courtyard Theater

Mary wants to tie the knot with her sweetheart Hugh, but if they walk down the aisle, she’ll be disinherited. The shocking discovery of a dastardly deed further complicates her choice and may throw her into the arms of a “mysterious stranger.” Who is the good guy and who is the bad? Will Mary marry the wrong man? Or will love and truth save the day? Only the wit, wisdom, and satirical humor of Mark Twain could answer these questions as this outrageous bluegrass musical unfolds to its just conclusion! Rover returns to the Courtyard for this Regional Premiere musical - fun for the whole family!

Everything in the Garden by Edward Albee (author of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf and The Zoo Story)

May 20 - June 12, 2010, Cox Building Playhouse

“Keeping up with the Joneses” is a well-known sport in suburbia: McMansions, luxury cars, private schools.... Jenny and Richard are suburbanites living just above their means. When Jenny receives an unusual offer to make more money than they have ever dreamed of, money and possessions seduce their lives, and the slippery slope of compromise, convenience, and conspicuous consumption threaten to lay waste to the façade of their calm, middle-class neighborhood. A modern morality play that has never been more timely.

Dilemmas With Dinner by Robin Roberts

July 15 - August 7, 2010, Cox Building Playhouse

You think you’ve had some bad dinner parties? Brooke, an ambitious junior executive, invites her boss and his wife over for dinner in the hopes of securing a promotion. Her husband comes home suffering a back injury from a now ex-employee who won’t take “fired” for an answer. The hired help turns out to be the boss' ex-daughter-in-law. A riotous farce complete with doors slamming, appetizers flying, and candlesticks attacking – all before dinner is even served. And Brooke's boss has an announcement to make....

The Regional Premiere of brand-spanking new farce!

Adventures in Mating by Joseph Scrimshaw

September 9 - October 2, 2010, Cox Building Playhouse

YOU play the role of cruel fate in a romantic comedy for cynics of all ages! Life or death? YOU DECIDE! With multiple storylines and endings, plus ever-changing scene options, you can't see it all if you only see it once! A “create your own adventure” story for grown-ups.
