Detailed design finalisation (Early 2021) Gavial-Gracemere Road, Lawrie Street Upgrade (LSU) project About the project The $35 million project is funded under the $400 million Queensland Government Roads Stimulus Package Economic Recovery Strategy: Unite and Recover for Queensland Jobs announced by the Queensland Government in May 2020. TMR has engaged Fulton Hogan Construction Pty Ltd. to deliver the project. Project benefits The project will: improve safety for all road users increase capacity and traffic flow reduce peak hour congestion provide better active transport contribute to regional growth and economy. The upgrade will integrate with the Capricorn Highway – Rockhampton to Gracemere Duplication project to improve network efficiency for this important commuter route between Rockhampton and Gracemere. The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is upgrading Lawrie Street from two to four lanes, between the McLaughlin Street intersection with the Capricorn Highway and John Street/Russell Street intersection in Gracemere. Removal of roundabouts at the Old Capricorn Highway/ O’Shanesy Street and John Street/Russell Street intersections, and construction of new signalised intersections. Upgrading the Capricorn Highway/McLaughlin Street intersection to provide additional capacity. Review and upgrade of pedestrian and cyclist facilities to improve safety and connectivity.
