LIVE THE LITURGY INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK

No one wants to listen to a prophet, especially when the prophet is someone close to us. We have a hard time accepting that ordinary associations can develop the type and depth of wisdom that can not only positively change lives but profoundly challenge them. To many folks, Jesus was simply the son of Joseph, even though his words caught their attention and amazed them. After his words sunk in, they were infuriated and drove him out of town. Is Jesus simply the son of Joseph to us as well, or is he the God who knew us before we were formed in the womb? If he is God, then we need to heed his message and change our lives accordingly.

COMING UP FEBRUARY 10,

2019

We encourage you to prepare yourself for

next weekend’s liturgy by reading and

praying the scriptures. The readings for next

Sunday are

FIRST READING Isaiah 6:1-2a, 3-8

SECOND READING 1 Corinthians 15:1-11

GOSPEL Luke 5:1-11

In 1997, Pope Saint John Paul II instituted a day of prayer for women and men in consecrated life. This celebration is attached to the Feas t o f the Presentation of the Lord on February 2nd. This Feast is also known as Candlemas Day; the day on which candles are blessed symbolizing Christ who is the light of the world. So too, those in consecrated life are called to reflect the light of Jesus Christ to all peoples. The celebration of World Day

for Consecrated Life is transferred to the following Sunday in order to highlight the gift of consecrated persons for the whole Church. Please pray for all those who have made commitments in the consecrated life, and be sure to thank them on their special day. May they continue to be inspired by Jesus Christ and respond generously to God's gift of their vocation.

TIME TO RETURN

LAST YEAR'S PALMS

Please return last year’s palms to the baskets in the Narthex the weekend of February 16/17 or February 23/24 so t h a t t h e y c a n be reverently burned for Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday is March 6.

Saint Bernadette would like to thank the now 500 families who are currently giving electronically (that’s 50% of all donations). You may not see these fellow parishioners place an envelope in the basket every week, but their consistent giving does not go unnoticed in our parish office. Each month our parish receives a steady and predictable stream of income from those donors who have made the commitment to give to God first by having a designated contribution automatically transferred to our parish through our Online Giving Program. If you like to learn more about this easy, safe and secure way of giving, please contact Tina @ 815-3102 or [email protected]. Or visit https://stb2008.weshareonline.org.

PARENTING POINTER

"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you." (Jeremiah 1:4) Even before your child was born you had hopes for him or her. Even before you conceived, you had hopes. Even if you adopted your child, you wondered how this person would grow and change you. Ponder how God knows you and your child even more deeply than the surface knowledge you now have. www.SusanVogt.net

Please pray for our Confirmation students as they prepare for the Sacrament. We will have 83 students who will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation on February 26, 2019.

Lord, You send out Your Spirit to touch the hearts of all people, so that they may believe in You and in Jesus whom You sent. Look kindly on all candidates for Confirmation as they listen to Your voice. Open their hearts to Your Spirit and bring to fulfillment the good work that You have begun in them. As we prepare these students for Confirmation, make each of us an instrument of Your love. Teach us to appreciate what is holy in others, and to be patient with what we do not understand. Deepen our faith in the Gospel and help us to pass it on by our example. We pray that You will continue to guide us and sustain us. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.

The Catholic Education Foundation is helping more families than ever who cannot afford the full cost of educating their children in a Catholic elementary school. The Catholic Education Foundation works with a third party evaluation company called the FACTS Management Company who collects all necessary financial information for your family, analyze it, and provide a financial

evaluation to ensure families receive a fair evaluation for tuition assistance. The FACTS Management company can assist you with any questions you have about filling out your application. They can be contacted at 1-866-315-9262. Applications will be accepted through February 28, 2019. If you plan to apply, please pay close attention to the February 28th deadline. This will allow you to participate in the first round of funding. Monies for the second and third round of funding will be considerably less. Families must upload their 2017 Federal tax return and 2017 W-2’s to their application. **Failure to submit these items by the February 28 deadline will cause these families to be placed in the second or third round of funding
