The Rev. Dr. Sammeli Juntunen, The Rev. Dr. Sammeli Juntunen, The Rev. Dr. Sammeli Juntunen, The Rev. Dr. Sammeli Juntunen, is head pastor of the
Lutheran Church in Savonlinna, Finland, which has
over 31,000 members. He studied with Professor
Tuomo Mannermaa and received his doctorate with
highest distinction. He has served as a youth pastor
and taught Ecumenics at Helsinki University. He was
an official delegate of the Evangelical Lutheran
Church of Finland to the General Assembly of the
Lutheran World Federation in Stuttgart in 2010, and
is a member of the General Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church
of Finland.

Lutheran Studies at Roanoke College, a Docent of
the Evanjelicka Bohoslovecka Fakulta in Bratislava,
and Professor of Systematic Theology at the Insti-
tute of Lutheran Theology. He is author of Paths
Not Taken, Luther and the Beloved Community, Di-
vine Complexity, Rethinking Philosophy and Theol-
ogy with Deleuze (co-authored with Brent Ad-
kins) and forthcoming Before Auschwitz: What
Christian Theology Must Learn from the Rise of Na-
zism. He earned his PhD from Union Theological Seminary, NY, in 1983,
his MDiv from Christ Seminary-Seminex in 1978 and his BA from Con-
cordia Senior College in 1974. He was ordained in a predecessor body
of the ELCA in 1978.

Dr. Kathryn A. Kleinhans Dr. Kathryn A. Kleinhans Dr. Kathryn A. Kleinhans Dr. Kathryn A. Kleinhans is Professor of Religion at
Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa, where she has
taught since 1993. An ordained pastor of the Evan-
gelical Lutheran Church in America, she holds a
Ph.D. from Emory University, an M.Div. from Christ
Seminary – Seminex, and a B.A. from Valparaiso Uni-
versity. Her scholarship focuses on the contempo-
rary relevance of Martin Luther and Lutheran con-
fessional theology. Dr. Kleinhans describes herself
as having one foot firmly planted in the 16th century and the other
firmly planted in the 21st century. In addition to her scholarly publica-
tions, she is eager to make Lutheran theology relevant for Christians
today through popular articles and devotional writings. Her
"Lutheranism 101" remains the most frequently requested reprint in
the history of The Lutheran magazine. She and her husband, Pastor
Alan R. Schulz, are the parents of two adult sons, Christopher and Paul.
Three blocks of 30 minutes each will be offered for participants to offer
topics to be explored within small groups—such as: Faith Community
Nursing, Biblical Story Telling, Christian Formation, Lutheran Partners
in Mission, Lutheran World Hunger, Ventures Stewardship Workshops,
Developing Keys to an Effective Church, and others you may suggest . . .

• Come aboard the Victory Rover Naval Base Cruise from Nauticus, Home of the Battelship Wisconsin. You will cruise the waters of the Elizabeth River and Hampton Roads Harbor.
• Visit the Hampton Roads Naval Museum and Battleship Wisconsin or Mac-Arthur Museum all located in downtown Norfolk– no fee
• Visit both Cape Henry lighthouses. Stroll along the beach, Visit memorials, visit the gift shop and for $5 you can climb Old Cape Henry Lighthouse. • First Landing State Park– Nature and history pro-

The Quality Inn and Suites has agreed to allow guests to
register for a room for Sunday night prior to the gathering and for the
Wednesday and Thursday night after the gathering at the same dis-
counted rate. (Friday and Saturday nights before the event will cost the full amount.)
The Ministerium Team has discussed the
participation of spouses-and while spouses are welcome to stay, having
paid for the room costs, the nature of the event would be changed if they
participated in the program and meals. . . so spouses are welcome, but will not be present for meals or
programs during the gathering. You are also welcome to come early or
remain after the gathering to enjoy family time.
