December 2017 Message from President Dan Zile A big Thank You goes to Pam Kuhn and Debbie Sullivan for doing a great job hosting our Holiday luncheon. We had a great turn out. We will enter 2018 with 57 member units and 23 (40%) were represented at this holiday luncheon. Thank you everyone. I hope each of you have had an opportunity to enjoy the Greater St Louis Unit’s 55 th Anniversary year of activities in one way or another. In case you didn’t know, a group of airstream owners formed the Il-MO Camping Club in April 1962 and in August of 1962 they joined WBCC & became the Greater St Louis MO Unit of WBCCI. That has been our official name for the last 55 years. However, since we voted to change it last October, our new official name will be the Greater St Louis Airstream Club (after it is approved at the International Board of Trustees in January). Congratulations, it’s a great name and more descriptive as to who we are. 2017 has been a good year thanks to those who hosted luncheons (the Muir’s, the Hansons, the Ploussards and Pam Kuhn & Debbie Sullivan) and rallies (the Hausers, the Brenneckes, the Welsh’s, the Johnsons and the Vadners). And we certainly can’t forget our esteemed Caravan Leader who provided us with 5 caravans this year, Mr Ed Knernschield. Of course, the most important people are all of you who attend the rallies and luncheons. Thank You. Then there is the “back office work” performed by the Recording Secretary (Suzy Shepard), Corresponding Secretary (Joe Bublis), the Treasurer (Tootie Mayes), the Webmaster (Bob Wagner), the Directory preparation (Joe Bublis), the Facebook monitor and person who has posted all of the pictures on FB (Suzy Shepard), the membership chairman (Hugh Bartlett), and the Community Service and Historian (Glenn Waters). I would be remiss if I didn’t give a special Thank You to our Newsletter Editor, Suzy Shepard, who has produced 12 newsletters to communicate what is going on within the unit this year. As I said earlier in the year, the Unit runs on Volunteers and because all of you who volunteered, that is why we had a good year. Everyone’s leadership and participation in the luncheons and rallies is what made it a great year. Thank you everyone. Gateway Traveler The Greater St. Louis Airstream Caravan

Gateway Traveler December 2017

Compared to past years, the unit is changing. Many changes are yet to come and you will see some of them take place next year and the year after. To survive as a unit we need to embrace change, even though it’s hard. I’m sure you know change is a way of life. So hang in there and support your incoming leaders. You can do that by volunteering to do a small part (like the folks I previously mentioned). Doing the small parts adds up to a great year for the entire unit. Just remember, LIFE is more exciting than ever, it’s living LIFE that counts, not counting birthdays! So keep those wheels rolling in 2018. Happy Holiday’s to each of you. Everyone have a blessed 2018 and Thank You so much for a great 2017 Airstream year. Dan From the Bartletts: Merry Christmas. We’re headed to South Padre Island , TX for the winter the first of the year. See everyone in April! From Dan Zile: The US Post Office has begun a new service you may not have heard about. It’s called “Informed Delivery”. The PO scans the mail that will be arriving in your mailbox that day and sends you, via email, a picture of the front of each item. This can be handy if you are expecting something while you are gone. Go to the USPS website and click on “informed Delivery” in the upper right corner. You will be asked for an email address for them to send your notification. (sometimes the response is slow after clicking, so be patient). Community Service Don’t forget to continue to save those soda tabs and turn them into Glenn Waters anytime between now and the International Rally. Attention Quilters in our unit. Glenn will also accept any blankets or hats that you are kind enough to make over the winter. The hats and blankets are donated to agencies in the location of our International Rally and are put to a very good use. If you have any questions about this, contact Glenn at 618-210-7734. Greater St Louis Unit Directory If you were unable to attend the Holiday Luncheon then your 2018 unit directory was mailed to you. If you have not received it, contact Joe Bublis 314-303-4912. Now is a good time to put the 2018 GSL Activities on your 2018 calendar. They are enclosed for your use. It will only take a few minutes and you will be aware of weekends containing airstream activities.
