She has extensive experience in adolescent wellbeing, life coaching and works as a Telephone Crisis Supporter for Lifeline. In 2013 Donna was awarded the NSW Premier’s Anika Foundation Youth Depression Awareness Scholarship to conduct international research into strategies being implemented globally for the prevention of youth suicide. Following the research, Donna recognized the importance of enhancing teacher confidence in dealing with suicide prevention within the school setting. She drew on her findings to develop Gatekeeper Workshops to target this specific need. In 2015 Donna presented on the importance of engaging teachers in youth suicide prevention at the National Suicide Prevention Australia Conference in Hobart. Donna Redman is a writer, speaker, presenter and secondary school teacher

This workshop is suitable for all teaching and support staff. The session has been designed to fit into a regular staff meeting time slot so all staff can attend without the

expense that comes with sending staff to external PD. The workshop provides an overview of the key areas identified overleaf. It is interactive and provides opportunity for staff input. Completing the Gatekeeper Training Overview Workshop will contribute

1 hour of QTC registered PD addressing 4.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient

Teacher Accreditation in NSW.

This skills focused workshop is suitable for all teaching and support staff. The workshop provides detailed information on the key areas identified overleaf. In addition, the

workshop provides attendees with a clear understanding of the system and legislative requirements and their implications for educators. They will evaluate current proactive

strategies in place at their school as well as designing new methods to improve the wellbeing of students. Attendees will refine their listening, questioning and rapport

building skills to improve the effectiveness of safe interventions conducted with students. Attendees will improve their capacity to refer students at risk.

The workshop is interactive and provides opportunities for input through a diverse range of strategies.

Completing the Gatekeeper Training Half Day Workshop will contribute 3 hours of QTC registered PD addressing 4.4.2 from the Australian

Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.

This comprehensive, skills based workshop is suitable for all teaching and support staff. The workshop provides extensive information on the key areas identified overleaf.

In addition, the workshop examines the current societal attitudes towards suicide and how these impact the way we approach suicide prevention in schools. Attendees will

examine the suicidal ‘mindset’ to gain a deeper understanding of the common factors associated with suicidal thinking, to improve their capacity to recognize warning signs.

Attendees will gain a clear understanding of the system and legislative requirements and their implications for educators. They will evaluate current proactive strategies in place at their school as well as designing new methods to improve the wellbeing of students.

Attendees will refine their listening, questioning and rapport building skills through a process of practical application, to improve the effectiveness of safe interventions

conducted with students. Attendees will improve their capacity to refer students at risk and follow up on students who have been referred to external support agencies. They will also engage in a range of self-care strategies to ensure that they are looking after

their own safety and wellbeing while caring for their students.

The workshop is interactive and provides opportunities for input through a diverse range of strategies.

Completing the Gatekeeper Training Full Day Workshop will contribute 5 hours of QTC registered PD addressing 4.4.2 from the Australian
