Best time spent in life is during B.Tech, but you can extend it further by two years in M.Tech

MS vs M TechBoth courses are similar as far as career options are concerned. MS is for 2.5 to 3years duration with more emphasis on research courses. M Tech is fixed duration course of 2 years. Normally students first opt for M Tech as it may provide better placements. MS can be later converted into PhD. Almost all IITs & II Sc offer both M Tech & MS. Admission into MS/M Tech/PhD courses is normally in moths of June. Session starts in August. Admission into PhD is twice a year. For past couple of years, there is inductment for M Tech/MS in winters also (Dec). Criteria for selection in winter is better relaxed compared to summer.

Efforts needed after B.Tech are inversely proportional to the efforts done before it

Final year students of B.Tech can now apply for direct Ph.D on the basis of their B.Tech percentage marks & GATE score. It has many advantages especially for those students who want to pursue academic & research career in technical field. After Ph.D, there are numerous options in India & abroad in MNCs, Academic & Research institute etc. Once Ph.D is obtained, one can also go for entrepreneurship. Scholarship for this course is Rs. 25000/- to Rs.28000 per month & government is planning to increase it further.

There are different other programmes offering PhD & IITs. Visvesvaraya scholarship & PM scholarship are prestigious. PhD scholarship ranging from RS.32000 to Rs.50000/month. Students getting these scholarships are to work on industrial sponsored projects & may be inducted in same industry. IITs are providing opportunities to research scholar to go abroad for conference as short term courses.There is misconception among students that career after PhD is only in teaching. PhD students from premium institute such as IIT Bombay, Kanpur etc are placed in MNC such as TCS, GE, Mercedes, Hem etc for R & D & are offered packages ranging Rs.15 LPA to Rs.45LPA. Maximum research scholars in IIT Kanpur are from ECP as mentioned.

NITIE is National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) was established by the Government of India in 1963 with the assistance of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) through the International Labour Organization (ILO) to create skilled professionals.Indictment of students in NITIE is through both GATE & CAT. There are different courses offered by NITIE. IE is flagship program. PM & MM were recently introduced. All three courses offer PGD & good placement (Ranging form 12 LPA to 50 LPA).It is easier & cheaper to get into NITIE through GATE exam. Total expenditure incurred on courses is approximate 7Lakh (two years) but students are offered monthly stipend of Rs.12500. There are easy educational loan facilities available to students.
