Wise use of Credit Cards during the Holiday Season With the Holidays around the corner, it is easy to get carried away with the joys and festivities of the Season. Which makes planning and
using credit wisely to avoid ―the credit card blues‖ in January even more important. Credit Cards are not a bad thing; it‘s all about how you
manage them. Only take on an amount of debt that you can easily repay.
Ask yourself:
Is this purchase on my Holiday spending plan?
Am I buying this only because it‘s on sale?
Would I buy this if I had to pay cash?
Would I come back tomorrow to buy this?
How much do I owe on my card this month and will this purchase put me over the top?
Tips to keep in mind:
Pay on time each month
Helps avoid late fees as well as penalty interest rates.
Stay below your credit limit
Exceeding your credit limit will result in a fee and could increase your interest rate. Keep a record of
your spending/check online.
Avoid unnecessary fees
Read your credit card agreement to learn more about the fees. These may include: late payment, over-the-limit, cash advance,
transferring balance, and return payments.
Make more than the minimum payment
Check out the credit card payment calculator at http://www.federalreserve.gov/creditcardcalculator to see what a difference a bit
extra will make.
Watch for changes in your card's interest rate
Interest rates are listed on your monthly bill. Read your bill carefully and take note of any changes. Rates can often change with
out notice.
Congratulations to the Community
Volunteer of the Quarter!
On Wed, 9 Nov 2011, COL Paul Yingling received his
award during the Garmisch Elementary Middle School
Veteran‘s Day Ceremony.
Paul was chosen for his volunteerism as a coach and
mentor for the CYS Services Sports and Fitness
Program; providing more than 240 hours of volunteer
service. Paul is always very positive; communicating the
importance of school and family to his players. Safety is
always his number one rule and having FUN is his passion. Paul always comes early to practice
and works with the players on skills to better prepare them to enjoy and play the sport of base-
ball. He also works with youth during the summer to keep them interested in the game and to
hone their skills. Thank you for your commitment to the community, Paul!
Congratulations to other nominees including: Mr. Jared Payzant for his support in the
September Force Protection Exercise and continuous community volunteerism; Mr. Joel
Newman for his tremendous impact on the programs and activities offered at the Mueller
Fitness Center; and Mr. Larry Brown for his unwavering volunteerism, positive customer service
and referee support for the Mueller Fitness Center.
A community youth volunteer has also been chosen, details to be announced. Contact ACS for
more information on how you can make a difference volunteering!

Run, run, as fast as you can to the Community
Library on 8 December, at 10:30 for preschool
story time. For this final story time of the year, we
will feature a special puppet presentation of the
story ―The Gingerbread Man‖ with a craft activity to
follow. Don‘t miss this performance of a classic
holiday tale and crafting fun.
The Army Digital Media Library just got a whole new look and feel. Completely revised to be more user
friendly and merge better with the library‘s web catalog, you‘ll love the new features. Search by the device
you use, including Kindle and Apple, browse by format or genre, suggest a purchase, get
recommendations and read or listen to sample clips right from the site to see if you like something. There
are thousands of eBooks in all genres to choose from, and don‘t forget the audiobooks, movies and
music. Many of the movies are always available, so you won‘t have to wait if someone else has checked
out the movie you want. All you need is a library account and your MyAccount login and PIN. The library
staff will be happy to answer any questions or help you if you have problems.
Run, Run, As Fast As You Can…...
Army Digital Media Library gets a Makeover!
Looking for creative ideas this holiday season? Or maybe you need some
music or want to watch your favorite classic Christmas movies? The li-
brary is the perfect place to find what you need. Check out our
December display area of stories, cooking and crafting books, music,
audiobooks and movies. And, what better way is there to save money and
personalize the holidays than to make something yourself or with your
family? Hobbies & Crafts Reference Center is just one of the many free
library resources available from our web page. With activities such as
card making, candle making, cooking, sewing, wreath making and even
toy construction, each activity topic contains hundreds of articles with
step-by-step instructions for creating the items. Click the D.I.Y. tab on the
research page and get started with holiday fun.
