About Pomorie—the Capital of BalneologyThe town of Pomorie was originally named Anchialos in the late 5th century B.C. It is situated on a picturesque peninsula jutting out more than 3 kilometers into the Black Sea. Its southern and eastern parts are surrounded by the sea, and to the north, Lake Pomorie lies, renowned for its healing mud and lye.The peninsula of Pomorie protruding far out in the sea is one of the most remarkable natural phenomena not only for the Bourgas Bay, but along the whole Black Sea coast. In summertime, sea water temperatures reach 26-28°С and bathing is pleasant from May to October. Therefore, a longer beach season—more than 6 months—is possible and the abundance of local agricultural products satisfies the needs of the lovers of fresh organic food.

The beach strip is covered by fine sand, almost black at many places due to the rich contents of iron, manganese, aluminum and mag-nesium. Highly absorbing, the sand quickly gets warm by the sun rays. The sea bed in front of the beach is slant and almost even.
