PAID SUMMER GARDEN INTERNSHIP on 1-acre Edible Landscape Cache-Soil-To-Table—a not-for-profit project of local business, Nutritional Solutions—has a 1-acre Edible Landscape in North Logan, UT, now 12 years ongoing. We use only non-toxic, sustainable/ regenerative, organic/ biodynamic and permaculture methods. Some features of our landscape: Our “food forest” has over 75 varieties of fruits & nuts, including many rare, unusual and heirloom varieties, all planted within a professionally designed landscape (design by Kirk Wilcox of The Greenhouse) Hoop house (12x16’) constructed on-site, for 4-season gardening Large garden of heirloom & open-pollinated vegetables Edible flowers, native & xeriscape plantings Culinary and medicinal herbs Pond & waterfalls to provide habitat Active vermiculture bins Rabbits and Cayuga ducks for increased fertility Experimental hugelkulture bed Large library of books on gardening, landscaping, permaculture New projects this year: sheet mulching; adding an understory of perennial vegetables to the orchard; rainwater harvesting and swale building; setting up an on-site nursery The position involves: (hands-on training will be provided) Building soil fertility, cover crops, composting, sheet mulching Planning garden rotation, seed starting, succession planting Weeding, mulching, weeding, watering & weeding Fruit tree management: training/pruning, fruit thinning, harvesting and preservation Plant propagation & seed saving Preparation for and hosting our annual, end-of-summer Garden Tour & Orchard Party You might be the candidate we’re seeking if... This position fits your career goals and interests You’re passionate about working outdoors, sustainability, the local food and “Slow Food” movements, learning about edible landscaping You have some experience in the garden or with permaculture You might be interested in developing a research project as part of your internship (optional) This is a paid internship ($8/hr plus a share of harvests & eggs, plus the chance to be mentored and learn from a successful system). You may be able to earn school credits, and will receive a letter of reference upon completion. The position is part-time (15-20 hr/wk), flexible schedule. You might be the candidate we’re seeking if... • This position fits your career goals and interests• You’re passionate about working outdoors, sustainability, the local

food and “Slow Food” movements, learning about edible landscaping

• You have some experience in the garden (must be able to identify common weeds!)• You might be interest in developing a research project as part of your internship (optional). Last

year’s intern compared the efficacy of various non-toxic methods of grass/weed suppression (from “non-toxic” sprays to sheet mulching).

This is a paid internship ($8-9/hr based on experience, plus a healthy share of harvests). You may be able to earn school credits, and will be earn a letter of reference upon completion. The position is part-time (20-24hr/wk).
