Gandhi’s Life by Sam
A Short Biography
Gandhi is important in India and the world
because he led India to independence and was an
example of nonviolence. He studied in England to
become a lawyer and then went to South Africa.
He was treated badly because he was Indian. This
made him fight for equal rights. When he returned
to India, he didn’t like the way the British kept
control. He encouraged people to not buy salt or
clothes from the British. This is an example of
nonviolent protest. The British imprisoned him.
He continued to want independence for India. He
even stopped eating to show how important it was to
him. Eventually India did get independence, but
Gandhi was killed. He is remembered as
Mahatma,or great soul.
