There are many types of corrosion that boat owners have to deal with. Well, actually, there are only two, but there are many different causes with different names. Here are a few known types of corrosion:

It’s all the same. All forms of corrosion are the same electro-chemical process caused by different circumstances. That there are so many different circumstances is why we have so much trouble understanding the nature of our corrosion problems. Every combination of metals in different locations on our boats corrodes for different reasons.

From the exterior to the interior, boats are victims to corrosion forming all over. For the less than obvious interior components, just because it's inside the boat doesn't mean that electrical equipment will stay dry. Boats leak, and electrical components located under those leaks are going to get wet. Electrical systems don't last forever. Over time boat systems degrade, particularly to the effects of corrosion. We recommend that a boat should have an electrical system survey once every 5 years. This does not take long and does not cost much, and can save you thousands of dollars in unwelcome headaches. In most cases, the survey will simply reveal the effects of corrosion which needs to be cleaned up, along with few possible minor repairs. The advantage is in not allowing problems to accumulate to the point that it becomes a big, costly job.

For wiring purposes, even when using 105°C rated wire at its maximum current rating, the wire may be too hot to touch without burning yourself. At these high temperatures, corrosion at terminals will be accelerated and the system may have shortened life.

Needless to say, this is what makes maintaining stern drives so difficult. Not only are they vulnerable to galvanism because of all the different metals in the drive, but it only takes a very small amount of stray current to cause serious damage

Determine the degree of conformity of the NANOPROTECH product’s protective properties. The testing procedure is based on comparison of corrosion test results on samples before and after application of the aerosol. The contactless transformers installed in distribution cabinets were used as

samples and were exposed to corrosion due to high humidity (up to 100%) and high temperature (up to 35C). Test conditions were conducted in the period from 26.04.10 to 18.05.11 at ambient condi-tions.Conclusion: the tested tool has truly anti-corrosion and dielectric properties and is suitable for use on switching nodes of communication facilities operating in conditions of high humidity and high temperatures.
