JIMMY DYKES

HEAD COACHThe most successful basketball programs all have a few key elements in common.

PASSIONThey are passionate about the game. The coaches are pas-sionate about their team, the players are passionate about the opportunity to represent their university and the fans are passionate about supporting the program.

EXCITEMENTAll successful programs are filled with excitement. They are exciting to watch and to be a part of.

COMMITMENTIt takes a lot of people to make a program successful and they all have to be committed to the effort. It starts with the coaches and staff and extends to the players but the best programs in the country take it further. Everyone who impacts the program, from professors, athletic trainers, academic coordinators, administrators and fans, all have to be willing to work toward the same goal of excellence in all areas.

PERFORMANCEFinally, successful teams have to perform at a high level every day. Whether in the classroom, in the community or on the court, doing things the right way is vital to the program’s success.

The University of Arkansas made a move March 30, 2014, when they welcomed Jimmy Dykes as the eighth head coach of the Razorback women’s basketball team.

SPEAKING OF SCORINGArkansas’ 69 points at South Dakota was a program-best in a true road game under head coach Jimmy Dykes. Last year, the most points the Razorbacks tallied in a road game was 64 at Tulsa. That number was 58 points in an SEC road game at Florida.

Through the first four games this year, Arkansas is averaging 75.0 points per con-test. The Razorbacks averaged 68.5 ppg through the first four games in 2014-15. Also better at this point this season compared to last year is free throw percentage (.641-.620); made baskets (115-93) and shots taken (294-225).

SCORING BY PERIODAgainst Tulsa, the Razorbacks were outscored in the first three periods by a 50-35 margin. The Razorbacks exploded in the fourth frame with 32 points holding Tulsa to 24 in the final period. Arkansas hit 13 baskets, four from distance, and shot 50% in the last period of the game. Jessica Jackson had 16 of her game-high 29 points during the final 10 minutes.

Although Arkansas has outscored opponents on average in every period this sea-son, the fourth frame has been good with the Razorbacks holding an 88-70 scoring

margin. Arkansas has outscored opponents 62-55 in the first, 71-55 in the second and 79-70 in the third periods.

ACTION JACKSONJessica Jackson has started the season on fire. The junior from Jacksonville, Arkansas, has opened with four consec-utive double-digit games, had back-to-back double-doubles and now back-to-back 20+ scoring games.

As a sophomore in the first four games, Jackson also had four consecutive double-digit scoring con-tests to open the year and one double-double.

FANTASTIC FOURArkansas returns just four players from a year ago. That is the fewest returning players among SEC teams this season. Despite that low number, the Razorbacks return 63.59 per-cent of its scoring from a year ago with 1,221 of the team’s 1,920 points coming from Jessica Jackson, Kelsey Brooks, Melissa Wolff and Khadijah West. Three of Arkansas’ four leading scorers from last season (Jackson, Brooks and West) return.

TOUGH START TO SEC SCHEDULEArkansas faces one of the toughest starts to the SEC schedule for the second con-secutive season. Last year, the Razorbacks opened SEC play with three of its first four opponents ranked in the AP Top 15. They were one of just two programs in the Power 5 Conferences to do that.

This year, Arkansas again faces a tough start opening the season at No. 2 South Carolina, vs. No. 16 Texas A&M, at No. 13 Mississippi State and vs. No. 4 Tennessee (AP).

LONE WOLFFMelissa Wolff is the only senior on the 2015-16 team. Named team captain, Wolff’s leadership on and off the court will be heavily relied upon with eight newcomers to the Razorback family this year. Wolff led the team in rebounding last year with 7.8 per game and had six double doubles last year, including two in the NCAA Tourna-ment.
