NEW YORK RED BULLS The New York Red Bulls continued their roll, defeating D.C. United 4-0 on Thursday evening at RFK Stadium. The Red Bulls have 11 points from 6 games, taking over the lead in the Eastern Conference. LAST MATCH

New York took the lead in the game’s 12th minute on a well-worked goal. Dane Richards flicked a long ball into space for on-rushing right back Jan Gunnar Solli, who lofted in a cross that Henry headed past United goalkeeper Bill Hamid.

In the 38th minute, Henry doubled New York’s lead. Richards found Solli in an advanced position once again. Solli took the ball inside the box, muscled D.C. defender Marc Burch off the ball, and his deflected cross ended up in front of Henry, who powered it home.

The visitors made it 3-0 in the 76th minute. Thierry Henry collected a ball out of the back near the midfield stripe and sent a long ball over the top to Joel Lindpere. The Estonian dribbled into D.C.’s box, got rid of Clyde Simms with a nifty move, and beat a sprawling Hamid.

With the game in stoppage time, the Red Bulls launched a final attack that ended in a Goal of the Week candidate from Juan Agudelo. Solli again blazed forward along the right flank and sent a low cross into the box. The teenage forward flicked the ball up on the roll and in the same move half-volleyed inside the far post to finish off the rout.

Red Bulls head coach Hans Backe made no changes to the team that defeated the San Jose Earthquakes 3-0 at Red Bull Arena

TEAM NEWS Thierry Henry scored his first two-goal game since coming to MLS and had scored three goals in a row for the

Red Bulls. He’s played a part in five of New York’s nine goals (three goals, two assists). “I think it’s a lot with the health issue definitely [making him play better] because if you have some pain, you

can’t be as explosive as you want to and you can’t run the way you want to,” Backe said. For a second consecutive match, Henry and Luke Rodgers were the strike partnership – and the Red Bulls

scored four goals after netting three the week before vs. San Jose. Of the seven, Henry has three and Rodgers two.

Juan Agudelo, who made a second consecutive substitute appearance after starting three of the first four games (missing one to international duty), scored his second goal of the season.

“We have three very good strikers,” assistant coach Jan Halvor Halvorsen said. “There will be room for all three to play. (Agudelo) came on and scored a good goal. He looked very hungry.”

Joel Lindpere, who underwent a procedure on his knee in advance of the United match, still played the entire 90 minutes, though he did limp off the field late. He did not participate in full training ahead of the Kansas City match – though he expected to be available at the weekend.

The last time the Red Bulls scored as many as seven goals in two straight games without giving up a goal came in 2007, when New York registered a 4-0 victory on May 19 over Columbus, and followed it up with a 3-0 victory over Chicago on May 24.

“I told you guys at the beginning of the season, once we start to score, I think we’re going to score a lot,” Henry said. “The most important thing is that we won. We scored three the other day and we scored four today.

Bouna Coundoul has two clean sheets in his last two starts. The Red Bulls have four shutouts on the season – through three different goalkeepers. Greg Sutton backstopped the season-opening win against Seattle, and then Alex Horwath was called upon to play in the scoreless draw in Columbus.

“Jan Gunnar [Solli] was more than active on the right hand side. He created a lot for us (against D.C.). Teemu [Tainio] was Teemu. He’s going to fight and give 100 percent,” Henry said. “But overall I think we had to defend well tonight even though [D.C. United] created some chances. They hit the crossbar, they hit the post, and Bouna [Coundoul] had a couple of saves, but we didn’t concede a goal and that’s what is important.”

SPORTING KANSAS CITY Sporting Kansas City lost for a second consecutive weekend, the New England Revolution coming from behind for a 3-2 win on Saturday evening at Gillette Stadium. Sporting have 4 points from 5 matches on the season, sitting in ninth place in the Eastern Conference. LAST MATCH

Marko Perovic opened the scoring for the home side by curling home Benny Feilhaber's feed after 12 minutes, but Kei Kamara equalized two minutes later by beating Matt Reis inside the near post.

Kamara picked up his second on the other side of halftime, and handed his Sporting their first lead by thumping home a disputed penalty with 20 minutes left after Kevin Alston appeared to clip Teal Bunbury in the area.

The Revs comeback began almost immediately. Shalrie Joseph headed New England level in the 72nd minute off a Kenny Mansally free kick, and four minutes later Sporting were reduced to 10 men when a red card to KC’s new defender, Aurélien Collin, in the 76th minute opened up the game and set up Lekic’s heroics.

The Danish striker Lekic, playing in just his second MLS game, got his head to Zak Boggs' cross from the right flank, looping it over Sporting 'keeper Jimmy Nielsen in the 83rd minute for the match-winner.

SKC boss Peter Vermes made one changes to the team that fell 1-0 to the Columbus Crew at Crew Stadium. Aurelien Collin made his MLS debut, coming in for the suspended Julio Cesar.

SPORTING KANSAS CITY (4-2-2-2): Jimmy Nielsen - Michael Harrington, Aurelien Collin (sent off 76), Matt Besler, Roger Espinoza - Birahim Diop, Davy Arnaud - Kei Kamara (Ryan Smith 87), C.J. Sapong - Teal Bunbury (Shavar Thomas 78), Milos Stojcev (Graham Zusi 58).

TEAM NEWS After opening their 10-game road trip with a victory, Sporting are now winless in four games. The last team with

an extended road swing to start the season – the Chicago Fire in 2006, while Toyota Park was being finished – started with two wins and four draws in nine games.

“I thought there were some really good pieces of the game for us tonight,” Vermes said. “We created some very good chances. I thought at times we defended very well, especially when we had 11 men on the field. After that, the game changed.”

Four of Sporting Kansas City’s five games this season have featured five goals or more. SKC has lost two of those after the 3-2 loss to New England; one ended in a draw (a 3-3 result in Vancouver).

MLS GAME INFORMATION

"It’s not good to give up goals late. We just have to get back to practice this week and try to work on cutting down some of that stuff. We scored two good goals on the road and it is what it is,” Vermes said.

Kei Kamara has scored the last three goals for Sporting, including both in the loss at New England, his third career 2-goal game. The three previous goals by SKC were also all scored by one player: Teal Bunbury.

“Goals are goals, I’m always happy to score goals, but the more important is me letting someone score a goal when I’m marking them to get their team back into the game,” said Kamara, who was marking Shalrie Joseph on the Revolution opener.

Sporting have seen three players sent off, and all have been high-profile international signings for this season – Omar Bravo, Júlio César and Aurélien Collin.

“The unfortunate thing is that this is the third game that we have lost and in all three games we have not been able to finish the game with [11] men,” Vermes said. “So that’s frustrating, but we’ll have to keep working with it as a team because it’s part of what we do.”

However, after a review by USSoccer, the second yellow card was issued to Collin in error – it should have been Birahim Diop sanctioned by referee Edvin Jurisevic. As a result, Collin will be available for the match against New York.

Sporting have run out four different back fours in five games – with only the groups the same in the Vancouver and Columbus games. With Collin again available, the same back four could be employed by Vermes this weekend from the one in New England.

RED BULLS VS SPORTING KANSAS CITY – APRIL 30, 2011 – 7:30 PM ET

BULLETIN BOARD FIRST PLACE BULLS LOOK FOR THIRD VICTORY IN A ROW Fresh off their second-straight shutout victory, the Red Bulls return home to face Sporting Kansas City for the first time this season on Saturday evening at 7:30 PM ET (TV: MSG; Radio: WADO 1280 AM). Thanks to their 4-0 victory over D.C. United last Thursday, New York currently sits atop the Eastern Conference on 11 points with a record of 3-1-2. The Red Bulls’ defense remains the stingiest in the conference, as they have conceded just twice in their six matches thus far. Only Real Salt Lake (1) has given up few goals. Goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul , who set a single-season franchise record for shutouts last year with 11, has recorded two straight clean sheets. Sporting Kansas City enters the match in ninth place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 1-3-1 and four points. In their last match, they fell to the New England Revolution 3-2. Sporting jumped out to a one goal lead thanks to a brace from Kei Kamara, but New England came back with late strikes from Shalrie Joseph and Rajko Lekic to earn the three points. Saturday’s match will be the 42 nd match all-time between New York and Kansas City. The teams are dead even in MLS play in the past, with both teams registering 16 victories over the other, with nine matches ending in draws. Last season, the Red Bulls earned all six points against Kansas City. On June 16 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark, the Red Bulls defeated Kansas City 3-0, and New York also took the return fixture on Oct. 2, 1-0, at Red Bull Arena to clinch a playoff berth. RBNY TO HONOR PETKE IN CEREMONY APRIL 30 The Red Bulls will honor former Red Bulls defender and current Individual Development Coach and Business Operations Manager Mike Petke in a ceremony prior to their match at Red Bull Arena on April 30 against Sporting Kansas City at 7:30 PM ET. Petke will have the opportunity to address the crowd before the game. Petke, who retired after the 2010 MLS season, played 13 years in the MLS, including seven seasons with New York over two stints and became one of the most beloved members in the franchise’s history. In addition, Petke is the club’s all-time leader in games started, games and minutes played and was part of the team’s All-Time Best XI that was unveiled in 2010. "I feel honored that the organization has decided to celebrate my career with this ceremony,” Petke said. “This club has been so much more than just a team since I started my career here. The New York Red Bulls organization has done so much for me and my family, and I am truly grateful for their recognition of my playing career.” Petke, a three-time MLS All-Star, featured in 169 regular season games for New York, starting in 158 of them and logging a total of 14,060 minutes. The Bohemia, NY native started his career with New York in 1998, being drafted in the first round (eighth overall) in the 1998 MLS College Draft. Petke played five seasons for New York and helped the club to its first-ever Eastern Conference championship game and division title in 2000. Petke re-joined New York from the Colorado Rapids on Nov. 26, 2008 and played in 19 games in 2009. In 2010, his final professional season, Petke made 16 appearances, starting in 11, and he became only the 12th player in MLS history to appear in 300 regular season matches, reaching the mark with his start on May 20, 2010 against the Columbus Crew. In the Grand Opening of the club’s brand-new stadium, Red Bull Arena, on March 20, 2010, Petke tallied the Red Bulls’ second goal of the match off a close range volley en route to a 3-1 win over Santos FC.

Petke played for D.C. United from 2003-05 and he won the MLS Cup for the first time of his career in 2004. In 2005, Petke was traded to the Rapids and made 80 appearances over three-plus years. During his 13-year run in MLS, Petke scored 13 goals and four assists in regular season action, logging 25,731 minutes – a mark that is seventh all-time in MLS history. On the international level, Petke was part of the 2002 U.S. Men’s National Team pool and earned two caps for his country. Petke attended Southern Connecticut State University, where he won a number of accolades including twice being named on the All-New England Collegiate Conference First Team and the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year. Petke was appointed to his current role of Individual Development Coach and Business Operations Manager on January 12, 2011 and is currently serving in a variety of roles with the Red Bulls, working within different departments in the front office and the coaching staff. HENRY NETS TWO AS RED BULLS RUSH PAST D.C. Thierry Henry’s first two-goal game in his MLS career propelled the New York Red Bulls to a 4-0 win over Eastern Conference rival, D.C. United, at RFK Stadium Thursday night. Midfielder Joel Lindpere and forward Juan Agudelo also recorded goals while Jan Gunnar Solli tallied two assists, as New York leapt into first place in the East with 11 points, improving to 3-1-2 in 2011. The Red Bulls trotted out the same starting lineup that defeated the San Jose Earthquakes, 3-0, and put their name on the scoresheet in the 12th minute. Dane Richards flicked the ball to an on-rushing Solli, who ran into the attacking third and swung a cross into the box that an open Henry nodded into the back of the net. The hosts looked to get back in the match 10 minutes later, as Josh Wolff slipped Charlie Davies a through ball, but the American forward could not get his attempt around goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul and on target. In the 28th minute, Dwayne De Rosario nearly made it 2-0 when he fired over the bar after Henry dispossessed Dejan Jakovic of the ball. Henry doubled New York’s lead seven minutes before the break with the service again coming from the right wing. Richards chipped the ball to Solli, who held off his defender and slid a deflected cross to the top of the six yard box. Henry was first to it and rifled it in. United looked to get on the board after the break and it had a great chance in the 73rd minute, when substitute Branko Boskovic’s free kick from 30 yards out slammed off the crossbar. With D.C. pressing for most of the second half, New York found its third goal with less than 15 minutes to play. Rafa Marquez started a counterattack, finding Henry at midfield. Henry then slid a through ball to Lindpere, who went in on goal, cut it in with his right foot and put it past goalkeeper Bill Hamid. Coundoul preserved the shutout late, making a fingertip save on a 15-yard Boskovic shot with less than five minutes left. Boskovic later hit the woodwork for the second time, smashing a shot off the right post. Agudelo finished the scoring for New York in second half stoppage time, spectacularly flicking a Solli pass up in the air and smashing it into the goal netting. HENRY RECORDS FIRST TWO-GOAL GAME, THIRD IN LEAGUE IN SCORING Red Bulls forward Thierry Henry recorded his first career two-goal game in last Thursday’s 4-0 win over D.C. United. Henry opened the scoring in the 12 th minute, heading home a cross from Jan Gunnar Solli. In the 38

th minute, Henry doubled New York’s lead, depositing another Solli feed

RED BULLS VS SPORTING KANSAS CITY – APRIL 30, 2011 – 7:30 PM ET from inside the box. Henry’s three goals rank him third in the league in goals so far in 2011. 2011 MLS GOALS LEADERS Player (Team) Goals 1. Charlie Davies (DCU) 5 2. Diego Chaves (CHI) 4 T-3. Thierry Henry (NY) 3 T-3. 7 others 3 AGUDELO GOLAZO UP FOR MLS GOAL OF THE WEEK: New York 18-year-old Juan Agudelo scored a fantastic goal in the Red Bulls’ 4-0 win over D.C. United Thursday night. Agudelo, who came on as a second half substitute, was fed a low Jan Gunnar Solli cross in the box that was behind him. Agudelo flicked the ball up in the air and spectacularly volleyed it into the back of the net with his right foot for his second goal of the year. Agudelo could win his second MLS Goal of the Week award after he took it home in Week 1 for his strike in a 1-0 win over Seattle on March 19. SOLLI GETS TWO HELPERS Red Bulls first-year midfielder/defender Jan Gunnar Solli recorded two assists in New York’s 4-0 victory over D.C. United on April 21. The Norwegian International assisted on Thierry Henry’s 12th minute goal as well as Juan Agudelo’s second half stoppage time strike. Solli now leads the club with three assists in 2011, a mark which ranks third in the league this season. FINDING THE SCORING TOUCH Over the past two games, the Red Bulls have scored seven goals without conceding. The last time the Red Bulls scored as many as seven goals in two straight games without giving up a goal came back in 2007, when New York registered a 4-0 victory on May 19 over Columbus, and followed it up with a 3-0 victory over Chicago on May 24. PUTTING UP ZEROES The Red Bulls are tied with the Los Angeles Galaxy and Columbus Crew for team shutouts in 2011, registering four. New York has used three different goalkeepers to post their four shutouts, with Bouna Coundoul leading the way by keeping clean sheets in his last two starts. Rodgers joined the Red Bulls after signing on Jan. 28, 2011 from English League One side, Notts County. The 29-year-old has also played for Yeovil Town, Port Vale, Crewe Alexandra and Shrewsbury Town throughout his career. GOALKEEPER BY COMMITTEE The Red Bulls are just the second team in Major League Soccer history to record their first three shutouts of a season with three different goalkeepers. Greg Sutton blanked Seattle Sounders FC, 1-0, in the opening match on March 19, while Alex Horwath followed up the effort on March 26 at Columbus, as the Red Bulls drew 0-0. Bouna Coundoul, who set a franchise record last year with 11 shutouts, kept a clean sheet on April 16 in a 3-0 win over the San Jose Earthquakes. The last team to achieve this feat was the New England Revolution in 2001. United last Thursday, and it was the Jamaican’s 22nd career assist for the club in all competitions. Richards now is 8th on the all-time club assists list, leapfrogging Roberto Donadoni. The match against Mexico marks the first game for any full U.S. National Team at spectacular Red Bull Arena, one of the newest jewels in the growing collection of world-class, soccer-specific stadiums in the United States. The match also features a unique side note in that it will be the first game between the two countries since the USA was upset by Mexico in the semifinal of the CONCACAF Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament in Cancun, Mexico last October. The loss forced the USA to win the third-place match at the tournament then defeat Italy in a home-and-home playoff series for the last of 16 berths at the World Cup. “There’s nothing better than having a World Cup send-off game at an amazing venue against a very good opponent in front of a great crowd,” said U.S. captain and New Jersey native Christie Rampone. “It will be an emotional game and a great test for us before we head over to Europe to begin our final preparations.” The U.S. women have played quite a few matches in New Jersey, playing five times at the old Giants Stadium in East Rutherford and twice in the mid-1990s at Rutgers University in Piscataway. DE ROSARIO GETS FIRST RBNY START, 200th OF CAREER Dwayne De Rosario earned his first start for the club in April 9 1-0 loss to the Philadelphia Union. The Canadian midfielder made his club debut a week earlier against the Houston Dynamo, registering an assist after coming on as a substitute at halftime. The start was also a milestone for De Rosario, as it was the 200th of his MLS career. De Rosario, who was acquired on April 1 in exchange for Tony Tchani, Danleigh Borman and a 2012 first round MLS SuperDraft pick, has enjoyed a successful career on the club and international level. Last season in his second year with Toronto FC, the Scarborough, Ontario native recorded a career-high in goals scored with 15 to go along with three assists in 27 games played, being named to the MLS Best XI and MLS All-Star Team for the fifth time. Over his time in Toronto, the 32-year-old amassed 27 goals and 10 assists over 57 appearances. Prior to joining Toronto through a trade on Dec. 12, 2008, De Rosario was with the Houston Dynamo from 2006-08 and was an instrumental cog in the team’s back-to-back MLS Cup victories in 2006 and 2007. In Houston, the attacking midfielder compiled 24 goals and 11 assists over 78 games and three seasons. De Rosario scored the game-winning goal for Houston in their 2007 MLS Cup Final win over the New England Revolution, being named the match’s Most Valuable Player. In 2006, after an 11-goal, five-assist season, De Rosario was a finalist for the MLS MVP award for the second year running. The 5-11, 178-pound midfielder started his MLS career with the San Jose Earthquakes after signing in 2001. With San Jose, De Rosario won two MLS Cups, being named the MLS Cup Final MVP in his first season for his championship-winning goal against Los Angeles in overtime. With the Earthquakes, which qualified for the playoffs in every year until moving to Houston in 2006, De Rosario notched 108 appearances, 27 goals and 31 assists in five years. In 2005, De Rosario, who was named to the MLS Best XI squad for the first time in his career, was a runner up for the MLS MVP award after leading the League with 13 assists. On the international level, De Rosario has earned 55 caps for the Canadian National Team after making his senior squad debut when he was 20 years old. De Rosario was part of the 2000 CONCACAF Gold Cup winning side and has participated in four Gold Cups and three World Cup qualifying campaigns. The three-time male Canadian Player of the Year has registered 15 goals for Canada. De Rosario, a two-time winner of the MLS Goal of the Year, started his professional career in 1997 when he signed with the Toronto Lynx of the A-League. He then played for FSV Zwickau of the German Second Division before featuring for the A-League’s Richmond Kickers in 2000. RICHARDS NETS FIRST OF SEASON, APPROACHES TOP-10 ON ALL-TIME CLUB LIST Dane Richards’ first goal of the season, in the club’s 1-1 draw with the Houston Dynamo on April 2nd, was the Jamaican’s 16th goal for the club in all competitions. He joins Eddie Gaven, Jozy Altidore, and Alex Comas in 11th place on the club’s all-time goal scoring list. Richards is just one goal shy of Anthony De Avila’s 17, which would put Richards in the club’s top 10.

AGUDELO SCORES FOR UNITED STATES Forward Juan Agudelo was among five Red Bulls unavailable for selection for the March 26 game against the Columbus Crew because of international duty, and the 18-year old striker made good use of his time with the United States National Team. Agudelo scored the Americans’ tying goal against Argentina at New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ on March 26, as the USA earned a 1-1 draw. Agudelo then recorded his first national team start March 29, playing 90 minutes in a 1-0 loss to Paraguay. It was Agudelo’s second career international goal, and just his third senior cap. In November of 2010, Agudelo became the youngest player to ever score for the United States in the modern era when he notched the winner against South Africa in his national team debut. Red Bulls defender Tim Ream was also called by the United States, but did not play in the Argentina match. However, Ream did start and played 90 minutes against Paraguay. MARQUEZ EARNS 100th INTERNATIONAL CAP, RICHARDS SCORES TWO FOR JAMAICA Red Bulls Designated Player Rafa Marquez achieved his milestone 100th cap for the Mexican National Team March 26 as Mexico defeated Paraguay 3-1. Marquez assisted on El Tri’s second goal, which was scored by Andres Guardado in the 28th minute. Marquez also started for Mexico and played 45 minutes in a 1-1 tie against Venezuela March 29. Dane Richards also featured in international action, as he started and played 78 minutes in Jamaica’s 2-0 loss to Venezuela on March 25. Richards’ second go-around against El Salvador on March 29 was much more fruitful, as he bagged to goals, earning his 28th cap and a 3-2 victory for Jamaica. RED BULLS SIGN HORWATH, LASSITER Red Bull New York announced March 25 that it signed goalkeeper Alex Horwath. Horwath spent last season with the San Jose Earthquakes and Seattle Sounders after a three-year career at the University of Wisconsin. Horwath, 23, was a member of the San Jose Earthquakes last season, having been called up as a MLS pool keeper to replace injured starter Joe Cannon. He did not see any action, only serving as Jon Busch’s backup. He was also a member of the Seattle Sounders during the 2010 season. Prior to joining San Jose, Horwath trained with Kansas City in the summer of 2009, also as a pool goalkeeper. Before beginning his professional career, Horwath minded the net for three years at Wisconsin, where he started 52 games and posted 17 shutouts. His collegiate career began at Connecticut, where he redshirted in 2005 due to a knee injury and did not play in 2006, after which he transferred to Wisconsin. Two days earlier, the club announced it had signed Tyler Lassiter. Lassiter graduated from North Carolina State and was one of the Red Bulls’ two second round picks in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft. Lassiter, 21, joined the Red Bulls after being drafted in the second round (No. 30 overall) in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft. A central defender at North Carolina State, Lassiter led the Wolfpack in goals scored (six) and all other offensive categories (six assists, 18 points) his senior year. He was named to the ACC-All-Freshman Team in his first year and Second Team as a senior. ACADEMY U-18s TRAIN WITH ARGENTINA

Page 19: Game Notes: Sporting KC at New York Red Bulls

RED BULLS VS SPORTING KANSAS CITY – APRIL 30, 2011 – 7:30 PM ET The Red Bulls Academy Under-18s were invited by the Argentina National Team to train together on March 23 and 24 in preparation for Argentina’s clash against the United States Men’s National Team, which ended in a 1-1 tie at New Meadowlands Stadium last Saturday. The Under-18s took to the pitch with Argentina at the Timex Performance Center in East Rutherford, NJ, participating in possession drills and small sided games. “The Red Bulls are getting worldwide recognition and the fact that we were invited shows that Argentina respects us and our club,” said Red Bulls Director of Youth Programs Bob Montgomery. “It is a dream come true for many of our players to train with a team of this caliber. We’re very thankful for this opportunity and for the way that the Argentinean Federation has been so accommodating to us through this process.” “The Academy offers so many opportunities, every practice is intense, the coaches really keep everything really professional, and everything about it just helps everybody get better,” said midfielder Sean Davis of Holmdel, NJ. “The fact that there’s a professional team and the fact that they offer opportunities like this just makes everybody want to come to this club and want to get better.” RED BULL LAUNCHES NEW YORK’S GOT WINGS Red Bull is giving wings to the city of New York. The New York Red Bulls will be vitalizing local soccer programs by providing needed equipment and elite-level coaching throughout the upcoming season. In partnership with sports apparel company adidas and equipment supplier Kwik Goal, the donation of goods and resources will aim to cover New York’s soccer-playing fanbase, from those participating in city-run summer camps, to younger athletes training in soccer clubs in the five boroughs. For every goal scored by the New York Red Bulls during the 2011 MLS regular season, Red Bull will make donations to the New York City Parks & Recreation Department’s summer camp programs. For each goal, $1,000 in equipment and clinics will be donated to the cause. The team hopes exposing kids to the fundamentals of soccer will help them embrace the sport, thus leading them to a healthier lifestyle. In addition to contributing to NYC Parks, “New York’s Got Wings” will also be doling out contributions in the form of new soccer equipment to New York youth soccer programs throughout the five boroughs. In order to spread the word and gain community support, each borough will take turns throughout the season voting for a specific youth soccer club to receive the prize. The soccer club voting for each borough will take place over a seven game block starting with Queens (3/19 – 4/30), Brooklyn (5/7 – 6/11), Staten Island (6/19 – 7/16), Bronx (7/20 – 9/10) and Manhattan (9/17 – 10/20). Recognizing the momentum of the program, adidas will contribute 1,000 soccer balls at the start of the MLS season, with one additional ball donated in honor of every Red Bulls jersey purchased at the adidas Sport Performance store in New York. This program will last throughout the 2011 season. For more information, voting and goal tracking for “New York’s Got Wings,” please visit www.redbullusa.com/newyorksgotwings. Voting begins on Opening Game day. Tainio will be added to the team’s roster pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC). Keel spent significant time in the USL First Division and had a short stint in MLS since beginning his professional career in 2005. Tainio, 31, joins the Red Bulls from Dutch powerhouse Ajax Amsterdam,

which he joined at the beginning of the 2010 season, appearing in two matches. Prior to signing with Ajax, Tainio, who has played in most midfield positions and in defense, spent five years playing in the English Premier League, splitting his time between three teams – Birmingham City, Sunderland and Tottenham Hotspur. Tainio spent two years at Sunderland, which included 21 appearances in the 2008-09 season and six appearances while on loan with Birmingham from 2009-10. Playing at Tottenham from 2005-08, Tainio featured in 61 matches, scoring three goals and winning the Football League Cup in his final year at White Hart Lane. Tainio began his professional career at the age of 14, when he was promoted to the senior team of TP-47 in Finland’s third division, after which he quickly moved to FC Haka in the Veikkausliiga, Finland’s premier division. Scoring four goals in 20 appearances and winning the Finnish Cup in 1997, he then moved to Ligue 1 club AJ Auxerre, where he spent eight years and won the Coupe de France twice, playing in 150 matches and scoring 14 goals. Making his international debut at just 18 years old on Feb. 5, 1998, Tainio has gone on to earn 51 caps for his country and tallied six goals. Keel, 27, joins the Red Bulls after a month-long trial this preseason. He last played in the USL First Division for the Portland Timbers, which were replaced this year by the expansion MLS franchise of the same name, where he won the USL First Division Commissioner’s Cup in 2009. Keel spent five years in the Colorado Rapids’ system, playing with the Seattle Sounders in the USL First Division on loan in 2006 and appearing in 36 matches with Colorado’s back-to-back MLS Reserve Division champion reserve team from 2007-09. He made six appearances with the Rapids’ first team while with the club before being waived in March 2009, when he signed with Portland. Prior to his professional career, Keel played with the Bradenton Academics of the USL Premier Development League. During a four-year collegiate career at Wake Forest, Keel was a forward and posted career totals of 13 goals and nine assists. WHEN LAST THEY MET...BUNBURY vs AGUDELO | Sporting KC striker Teal Bunbury, 21, and New York Red Bulls striker Juan Agudelo, 18, are both prom-ising prospects for the United States Men’s National Team. They each made their debut in the United States 1-0 victory over South Africa last November with Agudelo scoring the game-winning goal, while Bunbury netted his first international goal on a penalty kick in the National Team’s next match, a 1-1 draw with Chile in January.

Bunbury and Agudelo are both active on Twitter and held a contest leading up to Saturday’s match to see which player could get the most followers by kickoff. As of Thursday, Bunbury, @TealBunB on Twitter, was within 200 followers of Agudelo, @JuanAgudelo17 on Twitter, after receiving the support of several prominent people on Twitter, including Lance Armstrong, LIVESTRONG CEO Doug Ul-man, NFL wide receiver Chad Ochocinco, the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals, among others.

After scoring as a second-half substitute against Chicago in his re-turn from a dislocated elbow suffered during the pre-season, Bun-bury scored twice in his first start of the 2011 season in KC’s 3-3 draw at Vancouver. While the three goals in four matches are tied for third most in MLS, Bunbury also provided the game-winning as-sist in overtime of Sporting KC’s 1-0 win over the Houston Dynamo earlier this month in the 2011 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup qualifier.

The fourth overall draft pick in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft out of Akron, Bunbury enjoyed a standout rookie season with five goals and two assists in 26 appearances. He also became the youngest player in Kansas City history to record an assist at 20 years, 77 days in Kansas City’s 2-1 loss at D.C. United on May 5. His five goals last season were the most by a KC rookie since Scott Sealy scored nine times in 2005.

THREE STRAIGHT FOR KAMARA | Sporting Kansas City striker Kei Kamara has scored the last three Sporting KC goals. After re-cording two assists in the club’s season-opening 3-2 victory at Chi-vas USA, Kamara missed the team’s second match while with the Sierra Leone National Team for an African Cup of Nations qualifier but picked up right where he left off with his first goal of the 2011 season at Vancouver. Then last week, Kamara scored both goals -- his third career multi-goal game -- in Sporting Kansas City’s 3-2 loss at the New England Revolution.

Kamara is coming off a career year, scoring a team-high 10 goals and six assists, and has already accumulated eight points in four matches this season. Both marks from last year were personal career-highs for Kamara, now in his sixth year in MLS. Kamara has seven appearances for Sierra Leone.

COLLIN AVAILABLE | Sporting Kansas City central defender Aurelien Collin will be available for Saturday’s match at New York after Major League Soccer announced on Wednesday that U.S. Soccer rescinded the mandatory one-game suspension for the red card he received last week at New England.

Collin started in the 3-2 loss but his MLS debut ended early as he was sent off in the 76th minute amidst a confrontation in the New England penalty area following a Sporting Kansas City corner kick. U.S. Soccer ruled Collin’s case was one of mistaken identity and no action was taken against midfielder Birahim Diop, the player he was mistaken for.

KANSAS CITY CONNECTIONS

Sporting Kansas City fell 1-0 in their last MLS regular season meeting with the New York Red Bulls on October 2nd, 2010 in a Eastern Conference match-up. In Kansas City’s first trip to Red Bull Arena, the club attempted a season-high 26 shots but New York goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul made a career-high 12 saves in the shutout.

Red Bulls midfielder Dane Richards scored the game’s lone goal in the the sixth minute after forcing a turnover by central defender Jimmy Conrad and bending his left-footed shot past KC goal-keeper Jimmy Nielsen.

New York, which went on to finish atop the Eastern Conference standings in 2010 with 51 points on a 15-9-6 record, clinched an MLS Cup playoff appearance with the victory and secured the season sweep in the series with KC last year.

Sporting Kansas City and New York last met in the pre-season in the decisive game of the 2011 MLS Desert Cup in Tucson, Arizona. Sporting KC drew the Red Bulls 2-2 on March 5th at Hi Corbett Field on goals by captain Davy Arnaud and Kei Kamara en route to being granted champions of the inaugural tournament based on goal differential.

• Sporting Kansas City defender Luke Sassano began his MLS career with the Red Bulls, playing three seasons in NY from 2008-2010 after being drafted 32nd overall in the 2008 MLS Su-perDraft. He appeared in 42 overall matches for NYRB, including starts in all four games in the club’s run to the 2008 MLS Cup.• Sporting Kansas City and the New York Red Bulls are first and second, respectively, on Major League Soccer’s all-time shots chart. Sporting Kansas City has attempted 6,231 shots in 464 matches over 16 seasons, 47 more than New York has in the same number of games.• Sporting Kansas City assistant coach Octavio Zambrano coached the NY/NJ MetroStars from 2000-2002. In 94 games, Zrambrano led the club to a 45-40-9 record. In 2000, the club finished first in the Eastern Conference and reached the MLS Cup semifinals. In 2001, the MetroStars finished runners-up in the Eastern Conference before being eliminated in the MLS Cup quarterfinals.• Sporting Kansas City Manager Peter Vermes began his MLS career with the NY/NJ MetroStars in 1996. He started 33 games as the club’s captain, playing more minutes than any other player, and contributed one goal and one assist.• Sporting Kansas City assistant coach Kerry Zavagnin began his MLS career with the NY/NJ MetroStars from 1997-98. Zavagnin was acquired by the MetroStars in a trade with Colorado for Ver-mes. Zavagnin appeared in 39 games over his two years in New York, tallying two assists.• Sporting KC striker Birahim Diop played for the NY/NJ Metro-Stars from 2001-02, making four appearances in 2002.• New York Red Bulls goalkeeper Alex Horwath was a League pool goalkeeper in 2010 and trained regularly in Kansas City when not called to clubs around MLS.

Collin, a 25-year-old French central defender, is Kansas City’s most recent signing after previously playing for Vitoría Futebol Clube in Liga ZON Sagres, the Portuguese top flight.

SEEING RED | Sporting Kansas City has received three red cards in the team’s past four games and is one of five teams in MLS with three ejections early in the 2011 season. Designated Player Omar Bravo and new central defender Julio Cesar were both sent off in their second-ever MLS matches, while defender Aurelien Collin was dismissed in his debut last week at New England. Sporting KC is 1-0-1 in games without receiving a red card in 2011, but 0-3-0 when forced to play with 10 men.

GOALS GALORE | Of the nine MLS matches with five or more goals this season, Sporting Kansas City has been involved in four of them. Sporting KC is tied for the League-lead in goal scoring -- overall and on the road -- with an average of 2.0 goals per game, and ranks last in goals against, with an average of 2.4 goals per game. With the exception of a 1-0 loss at Columbus, Sporting Kan-sas City has scored 10 goals in its other four games, while allowing 11. SAPONG’S STRONG START | Sporting Kansas City striker C.J. Sapong scored in the second minute of overtime to lead KC to a 1-0 win over the Houston Dynamo earlier this month in a 2011 La-mar Hunt U.S. Open Cup qualifier. Sporting KC advanced to host the New England Revolution on May 25th for one of Major League Soccer’s two play-in berths for the tournament proper. Sapong has played every minute for Sporting Kansas City in 2011 and scored in the second minute of his first ever professional match, powering a shot past Chivas USA goalkeeper Zach Thornton less than 1 minute, 45 seconds into the season opener. It goes into the MLS record books as the fastest goal ever scored by a rookie who started in their debut, besting the mark set by teammate Michael Harrington who scored in the third minute of his debut in 2007.

Sapong, selected in the first round of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft out of James Madison University, also recorded his first professional assist in Sporting Kansas City’s 3-3 draw at Vancouver on a cross to Kei Kamara in the 62nd minute.

ROOKIE CLASS | In addition to Sapong, two other 2011 draft picks are on Sporting Kansas City’s current roster. Defender Konrad

Sporting Kansas City Game Notes | April 30, 2011 vs. New York Red Bulls | www.SportingKC.com

Warzycha, the son of Columbus Crew coach Robert Warzycha, was taken in the third round of the SuperDraft and defender Mike Jones was picked up in the Supplemental Draft out of Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville.

Two other young MLS newcomers were signed in the offseason, as Sporting KC signed defender Kevin Ellis as their second Home Grown Player out of the Sporting KC Juniors academy and also signed defender Scott Lorenz, who spent his first professional sea-son playing with the NSC Minnesota Stars of USSF D2 in 2010.

ROAD TRIP | Sporting Kansas City begins the second half of a ten-game road trip to start the 2011 season on Saturday with their sixth straight regular season away game, not including a U.S. Open Cup qualifier and Reserve League game at Houston. The team will return home to LIVESTRONG Sporting Park, the team’s new state-of-the-art, $200 million venue on June 9th. It is believed to be the longest stretch of away games in MLS history. Kansas City is 60-123-52 all-time away from home, and went 4-8-3 on the road in 2010.

BRAVO SIDELINED | Sporting Kansas City Designated Player Omar Bravo suffered a sports hernia injury and underwent surgery earlier this month. His return could come in the next two to four weeks. Bravo was named MLS Player of the Week after scoring two goals in his MLS debut against Chivas USA in Sporting Kan-sas City’s season-opening 3-2 victory, the first of three players for Sporting Kansas City to have multi-goal games in 2011.

Captain Davy Arnaud has played 223 games in his MLS and KC career, and is one shy of tying Nick Garcia for 2nd on Sporting Kansas City’s all-time chart...Of the 223 games played, Arnaud has started 202 regular season matches and is one back of tying Jim-my Conrad for 3rd on the team’s all-time chart...Arnaud is currently tied with Josh Wolff for 2nd on the team’s all-time goal scoring list with 43 career strikes...Arnaud is also fourth on the team’s all-time game-winning goals chart with ten over his nine MLS seasons. His next game-winner will match Wolff for third all-time...Goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen begins the 2011 season tied with Mike Ammann for fourth most shutouts in team history with 10...Defender Michael Harrington has played 9,981 MLS minutes, including postseason, and is 19 minutes from surpassing the 10,000 minute mark.
