Dan Bylsma began the 2008-09 season with the first head coaching assignment of his career - with the Wilkes-Barre ScrantonPenguins of the AHL. He ended it by hoisting the Stanley Cup. In between he authored one of the most spectacular coaching stories inthe history of hockey. Bylsma was named interim head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins on Feb. 15, 2009 taking over a team in 10th inthe overall conference standings. Bylsma unleashed a swift and skilled team that was built to attack. Pittsburgh went 18-3-4 underBylsma and grabbed fourth place in the conference. The Penguins clinched all four playoff series on the road, including two Game 7s,and twice rallied from 2-0 series deficits. Pittsburgh defeated defending champion Detroit four times in the last five games to claim theCup, including a Game 7 triumph at Joe Louis Arena. Bylsma played nine seasons in the NHL with Anaheim and Los Angeles. He wasan assistant coach with Cincinnati (AHL) and the NY Islanders before joining WBS.
