Hounds vs. Launch All-Time Series: The Hounds are 1-2 in games versus the Launch since 2014, when Florida joined the league as an expansion team in place of the Hamilton Nationals. Charlotte was 2-2 against the Nationals before their departure from the league. Previous Season Results: The Hounds and Launch split the regular season in 2014, with each team winning its respective home game. Last Meeting: These teams met last Friday, July 3, at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton, FL. Mike Chanenchuk got the Hounds on the board first, but the Launch scored the next four straight and never looked back from that lead. In the third quarter the Hounds were able to pull back within two, but it was the closest they would get in the 19-9 defeat. Florida Rookie Lyle Thompson finished with seven goals and one assist, while backup goalie Autin Kaut had 18 saves.

HOUNDS UNABLE TO TEMPER LAUNCH’S OFFENSE IN 19-9 LOSS Lyle Thompson leads Florida to victory with seven goals
BOCA RATON, FL (July 3, 2015) – After putting together an encouraging two-game win streak, the Charlotte Hounds on Friday night fell 19-9 to the Florida Launch in FAU Stadium. Both the Hounds and Florida entered Friday night’s game on high, and as the only two teams to beat the once undefeated New York Lizards. The game was crucial for the Hounds’ late season push to steal a playoff spot, but after the Launch scored their second goal they kept a lead for the entirety of the game.
There were thirteen penalties handed out, giving the Launch an opportunity to score several goals in a man up situations. With Launch goalie Brett Queener out due to injury, Austin Kaut stepped in and stepped up with 18 saves. The Coca-Cola Player of the Game was Lyle Thompson, who finished with seven goals and an assist. Mike Chanenchuck led the Hounds offensively with four goals.
Chanenchuk opened the scoring about 2:30 into the game, taking his defender from the top. Launch midfielder Steven Brooks answered back just two minutes later to tie up the game, shooting with three Hounds players on him. The next 10 minutes went back and forth without any goals. Casey Powell then gave the Launch their first lead of the game, and Brooks notched his second to finish the first quarter. with the home team up 3-1.
MLL goals leader Kiernan McArdle scored his first of the night within the first minute of the second quarter. The Hounds pulled back within two when Kevin Cunningham passed across the crease to Chanenchuck, who finished cleanly. Thompson added another for the Launch, but Terry Kimener responded and Chanenchuck scored off a power play following an illegal cross check call. But the Launch rattled off three straight to end the quarter, including two more from Thompson, to put Florida up 8-4 at the half.
Mike Sawyer and Jake Tripuka started the third quarter with a goal each, hoping to close the gap. But Brooks scored again for the Launch, and Thompson tallied two more goals on two separate power plays. Connor Buczek added to the Launch’s streak with a two point shot, increasing their lead to 13-6. Chanenchuck finally broke the run, ripping a shot from the right side, ending the quarter with the Hounds down by six.
The Launch went on another streak to start the fourth, with Powell, Roman Lao-Gosney and McArdle all scoring a goal. Joey Sankey answered back for the Hounds with his first goal of the night, getting underneath his defender. But Thompson scored two more before Will Haus ended the game with a left side shot with 1:50 left in the game. Lightning was reported in the area and both coaches agreed not to finish the last bit of time.
The Hounds and Launch will meet again in Charlotte next Saturday, July 11. The rematch will be Charlotte’s last home game of the 2015 regular season. Faceoff is scheduled for 3:30pm at American Legion Memorial Stadium.
Launch Previous Game Recap
LAUNCH FINISHES HOME STAND STRONG WITH 19-9 WIN
BOCA RATON, FL (June 3, 2015) — TThe Florida Launch concluded its three-game home stand on Friday, July 3 with a 19-9 rout of the Charlotte Hounds. The Launch has now won two-straight and ends with home stand with a 2-1 record to improve to 3-8, jumping over the Hounds in the standings who also have a 3-8 mark.
The 10-point victory is the largest margin for the Launch in team history; Lyle Thompson also made history with a team-record seven goals with an assist for a career-high eight points. Kieran McArdle, Casey Powell and Connor Buczek all provided four points while Steven Brooks had three goals. Austin Kaut, making his first Launch start, earned the victory saving 18 shots on a 67 percent save percentage.
Charlotte scored the opening goal of the contest off an unassisted shot from Mike Chanenchuk, not even two minutes later Brooks knotted the score 1-1 with an unassisted goal of his own. After 10 minutes of physical, scoreless action, L. Thompson found C. Powell with: 54 seconds left in the frame to give the Launch its first lead of the night followed quickly by another Brooks goal to end the first quarter with a 3-1 advantage.
The Launch continued the momentum from the final minute of the previous quarter as Kieran McArdle scored his first goal of the night to extend the lead to three. Shortly after, former Launch player Kevin Cunningham found Chanenchuk for his second goal of the night, cutting the deficit to two at 4-2. L. Thompson put the home side back up three with an unassisted goal. The Hounds brought their deficit back to two off a Terry Kimener goal score, making it a one point game off a power play goal from Chanenchuk with 7:50 left in the half. Looking to avoid a tied ballgame, L. Thompson scored his second unassisted goal of the game to put the Launch back up two and then scored another goal following the face-off win from Christopher Mattes to recreate the three-point advantage with 2:41 left in the half. The final score before the intermission came from McArdle, getting the feed from Powell following the slashing foul from Charlotte for the power play goal and making it an 8-4 contest.
With its biggest deficit of the night heading into halftime, Charlotte scored the opening goal of the second half two minutes in off an unassisted goal from Mike Sawyer, with Jake Tripucka scoring as well to cut the Launch’s lead back to two with 9:40 left in the quarter. The Launch responded to the two-straight goals with a 5-0 run as Brooks scored the first score followed by back-to-back power play goals by L. Thompson to put Florida up 11-6, capped off by reigning Rookie of the Week Connor Buczek’s third two-point goal of the season. The final score of the quarter came from the Hounds as Chanenchuk scored off a pass from Sawyer with one minute left in the stanza.
The Launch wasted no time in the final quarter, as Powell got a pass from PT Ricci 14 seconds into the quarter followed by Roman Lao-Gosney’s first goal of the night to put the home side up 15-7. McArdle joined the hat trick party in the third minute of the final frame, but his celebration was short-lived as Sankey scored for the Hounds 23 seconds later. L. Thompson continued to show his offensive prowess with his two more goals before the end of regulation, shortly followed by his brother Miles Thompson who put the Launch up 11 at 19-8. The final score of the game came from Wil Haus of Charlotte with 1:50 left to play as lighting in the area stopped action immediately after.
The Launch and Hounds will play each other again on July 11 in Charlotte followed by a trip out West to Denver to face-off with the Outlaws on Sunday, July 19.
