Serving the
Community's Greatest
Need since 1961
The Association of Kinsmen
Clubs is a uniquely Canadian
creation. In 1920 our founder,
Hal Rogers [1899-1994],
established a new service club
to give back to others less
fortunate than themselves. The
heart of the Kinsmen
movement is fellowship and
the will to act in service for
others.
The Kinsmen Club of Sackville
continues to realize the value
of the founding ideals of Hal
Rogers. Our members come
from all walks of life but share
a common dedication to
helping those in need in our
community.
We meet each Monday at 6:30
pm at the Kinsmen Community
Centre at 71 First Lake Drive,
Lower Sackville NS.
New members are always
welcome! Visit us on Facebook
or go to our website at
www.sackvillekinsmen.ca to
find out more.
President’s Message
Welcome to the 2019 Kinsmen Community Bowl - our fundraiser
for university entrance scholarships for Sackville High School
graduates.
This year’s game sees a return of the old rivalry between
Sackville Kingfishers and Lockview Dragons. Today’s winners
become Kinsmen Community Bowl Champions and are presented
with the Kinsmen Community Bowl trophy.
We have a full program of pre-game and half time entertainment
for you all. We start with the pregame ceremonies, and then at
half-time we have our famous T-Shirt Scramble, the annual
Student Tug of War Challenge and our fun-filled halftime show
including the ‘Kick for a Bike’ contest sponsored by Sportwheels
of Sackville. Oh, and don’t forget the football! We can surely
anticipate some high-octane action between these two great
teams.
On behalf of the Kinsmen Club of Sackville, I would like to thank
everyone for coming out to the game today and supporting this
great community event.
Yours in Kin,
Fabian O’NeilPresident

A Catholic High School had a legendary football team.
Every year, the team was in the championship game, and usually won it handily. Every able lad around wanted to play football for Central Catholic Fighting Knights.
Those who were familiar with the program, knew that the true heart and soul of the Knights football program was Sister Mary Margaret, an aged nun who would, in full habit, get out on the practice field and work on routes with the receivers, give pointers to the quarterbacks on their stances and releases, but most of all, love them like the second mother that she became to all of the boys in that program.
One year, on the eve of the state championship game, some evil malefactors broke into the convent and kidnapped Sister Mary Margaret. Everyone was stunned by the news, but none more so than the Knights of Central Catholic. They were devastated at the loss of their mentor.
As you might guess, the state championship game didn't go very well. For the first time in the history of the football program, the Knights were shut out. The Spartans beat them 42-0.
