FRESH FACES In the first four games of the season, TCU has seen 16 players make their debut. Eight of the 16 players appeared in the lineup, while eight others made their first appearance on the mound. At the plate, the group of new faces hit .373 (25-for-67) with six doubles, five home runs and 16 runs driven in. On the mound, the staff went 3-0 with a 3.05 ERA. They combined to strike out 23 batters in 20.2 innings of work.

VICTORY LAP Alabama graduate transfer Gene Wood is making the most of his final collegiate season. He hit safely in two of the three game and is hitting .300 on the young season. On Sunday, the senior hit the team’s first home run of the campaign. It was his first home run since March 26, 2017 against South Carolina. He has hit two more to give him three on the sea-son.

A LONG TIME COMING It was 631 days between appearances for Russell Smith, but he made the most of his return to the mound. The redshirt sophomore missed the 2019 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in the Fall of 2018. The left hander retired the first 12 batters he faced and ultimately went 4 2/3 innings in his first start since May 26, 2018. He fanned five, walked one and surrendered just two hits.

MOUND DOMINANCE Twelve different pitchers have toed the rubber this season. The group combined to post a 2.00 ERA, a mark that is tied for 30th nationally. Over the course of 36 innings, they faced the minimum 14 times. Only nine times did the group face more than four batters. TCU has only al-lowed a run in seven of the 36 frames.

SCORING IN BUNCHES The Horned Frogs have had a penchant for scoring runs in bunches since the arrival of Bill Mosiello on campus in 2014. That trend has shown itself early in the 2020 campaign. The Frogs have scored multiple runs in nine innings this year, striking for five runs twice. Over the last five-plus years, TCU has scored multiple runs in 587 innings. In 170 innings, TCU has produced four or more runs. TCU has scored 10 or more runs 78 times over the last six-plus seasons and tallied 117 wins of 5+ runs. Conversely, the Frogs have lost just 36 games by five or more runs since 2014.

SPEED FACTOR The Frogs have stolen 585 bases over the last 6+ years. TCU is averaging 2.5 stolen bases per game already this season. It’s not just raw numbers that are impressive, the Horned Frogs have produced a high success rate, converting on 77% of their attempts over the last six years (585-760).

TWO-OUT MAGIC A big part of Sunday’s victory over Kentucky was a five-run second inning. The Horned Frogs drew back-to-back walks with two out, setting the stage for the five-run outburst. In the first four games of the season, the Horned Frogs tal-lied 10 of the 36 runs scored with two outs.

STINGY STAFF TCU has limited opponents to two or fewer runs 168 times over the last 389 games played. The staff has surrendered 5+ runs just 137 times.

NATIONWIDE The United States is well-represented on the Horned Frogs rosters. The 35 athletes hail from 14 states spanning the continental USA. Twenty of the 36 players are from the state of Texas. Two players each are natives of Colorado (Cornelio, Sloan) and Illinois (Coughlin, Ray). The roster also features a player from Arizona (Sac-co), California (Shepherd), Florida (Hudi), Iowa (Krob), Michigan (Henry), Mississippi (Wood), Missouri (Byrne), Oklahoma (Thompson), Ten-nessee (Wolfe), Utah (Martin) and Wisconsin (Mihlbauer).

A DECADE OF EXCELLENCE The Horned Frogs were named D1Base-ball’s Big 12 Team of the Decade, this despite only being a member of the league since the 2014 campaign. Additionally, Preston Morrison was named the Pitcher of the Decade and Jim Schlossnagle the Coach of the Decade. TCU was one of the most dominating teams nationally throughout the decade. The Frogs turned in the ninth-best winning percentage (.679) and tied Oregon State for the eight-most wins (431) in the nation. Since taking over the program in 2004, Schlossnagle has done nothing but win. In 16+ years under his guidance, the Frogs are 685-323. TCU has posted 11 seasons with at least 40 wins and has appeared in 14 NCAA Regionals.

EXTRA, EXTRA TCU has played 64 extra inning games since 2004 and holds a 41-23 mark in those games. In Game 1 at Texas Tech, the Frogs went to extra innings for the first time in 2019. TCU came out victorious in 14 innings. It was the most in-nings played since TCU defeated Texas A&M in 15 innings on March 4, 2016. TCU went to extra innings for the second time on May 26, dropping a 7-6 decision in 10 innings to Oklahoma State. The Frogs went to extra innings four times in 2018 against Abilene Christian. TCU dropped a 4-2 decision in 11 innings, giving them a 9-3 record in extra innings dating back to the 2015 campaign. The 13-innings played against Minne-sota was the longest game in 2018.
