WHERE IN THE WORLD...
Just like the Unites States, the AquaSox roster is a melting pot of different cultures,
ethnicities, races and traditions. The boys may look (and play) like a harmonized group sporting those fresh new uniforms, but the AquaSox
roster is made up of players and coaches from all over the globe. Their love of baseball has brought them from East, West, North and South to the city of Everett, Wash., and onto the field at Everett Memorial Stadium.

To get a better taste of where your favorite AquaSox ballplayers call home, here’s how far some of the players traveled to play ball in Everett:
And if you think “Hotdog” Jones’ Mariner love-fest stops there, well, as they say, you ain’t heard nothin’ yet. Jones has also had two giant foam rubber ngers that say “#1 AquaSox fan” surgically sewn to his arms. “ ey’re a bit problematic during dinner time, or when, well, you know, but it sure gets me noticed a lot as I walk around Memorial Stadium on a sunny afternoon” said the superfan. An aspiring baseball player himself, Robert’s son Bobby “Little Smokey” Jones couldn’t be happier about the indoor mini-Stadium. “I love it.
We even get to take batting practice inside the house when it’s raining. And if you hit a ball completely through the wall, it counts as a triple!” e Jones family has even gone as far as to hire an organ player when entertaining guests. “It’s kind of weird,” says one friend who wished to remain anonymous. “Every 10 minutes we all had to yell “Charge!” and do e Wave. I mean, have you ever tried doing the wave with just four people?” Needless to say, Robert “Hotdog” Jones has taken fandom to fanatical new heights.
The biggest reasons for taking the Sounder Train to Safeco Field for a Mariners game are really stacking up. You’ll not only save a bundle on gas, car maintenance and parking, you can kick back and relax as you glide past all the bumper-to-bumper traffi c traveling to and from the game. WHY RIDE THE SOUNDER TRAIN?
Jose Moreno returns to Everett for his second stint as the leader of the Frogs (2008) after managing the Pulaski Mariners of the Appalachian League in 2009. In 2007, Moreno won the Arizona League Championship as the headman for the Peoria Mariners, and has also worked in the Venezuelan Summer League from 2001-2006. Moreno played
in the majors for three years with three different teams.
Tyler Krochmal: Welcome back to Everett sir, it’s good to have you here. How does it feel being back in town after managing the AquaSox in 2008?
Jose Moreno: It feels really good. I have a lot more knowledge about the league now, and I know more people here that I had met from before. I feel more comfortable, and I try to transfer the way I feel to the players. Right now I feel real good about it.
TK: 2010 is your 11th year with the Mariners. Can you tell me a little about how you made your way into the organization, and how you made the transition from player to coach?
JM: My last year as a player was in 1994 with Cleveland and Baltimore, then after my release I went back to my home in Venezuela. The Cleveland Indians were opening an academy down there and they needed a catching instructor, so I ended up being there for two years. Then I talked with Emilio Carrasquel, who was the Mariners representative in Venezuela, and he asked if I wanted to run their program. I said yes, and ran the academy down

WHY RIDE THE SOUNDER TRAIN?
Get to Know...Jose Morenothere for six years before coming to the states to mange in Arizona.
TK: What is the biggest adjustment, both on and off the field, from Venezuela to managing up here in the Northwest?
JM: Life here is completely different. The language, the culture, everything is different. Even the way we talk; Latin guys are sometimes loud and make a lot of noise, and over here people are more quiet and everyone takes care of their own business.
Baseball is the same. Here we have more equipment, more resources, but I think the biggest adjustment is in understanding how to live in the states.
TK: What are some of the biggest reasons for the team’s hot start this season?
JM: I think the biggest reason for our success is that everyone comes to the ballpark everyday ready to play; the guys are happy to be here. As a manger that’s the best you can ask for, that the players come here and give 100%. If you give 100%, you’re going to be fine, everything else will take care of itself. If you’re talking about MVP’s, we have a different MVP every day. So far we’re putting everything together to get the W’s, and I feel really happy with this group. Now we have to be consistent with that approach, it’s just the beginning of the season.
TK: Ok so now we know about the man in the dugout, tell me a little about the Jose Moreno off the field. What are some of your favorite things to do?
JM: I like music. I like maranga, salsa and I like to dance. I love to play with my kids; it’s so good to have my wife and kids over here. We live in Arizona, and since right now is vacation time, the kids get to spend almost all the summer with me. I try to spend all the time that I can with them; we like to go to movies, talk about baseball and I have my son here all the time as a batboy. I have my family around, so I feel really good.
