DAVE BROCK

A new era of Blue Hen footballbegan at the University of Delaware in2013 led by head coach Dave Brock.

Brock, a native of Moorestown,N.J. and a veteran of 22 collegiate seasons as an assistant coach, became just the fifth head coach of the Blue Hens since 1940.

The University has produced six national championships, fivenational runner-up finishes, 20 NCAA Tournament appearances,20 Lambert Cup trophies, three College Football Hall of Fame headcoaches, and numerous All-Americans and National FootballLeague players during that time.

Highlighted by an exciting offensive attack and formidablespecial teams play, the Blue Hens found success in Brock’s rookiecampaign in 2013 as Delaware produced an overall record of 7-5and earned a fifth place finish with a 4-4 mark in the ruggedColonial Athletic Association. Delaware earned votes in The SportsNetwork Media Top 25 Poll every week during the season, peak-ing at the No. 15 spot on Nov. 4.

Delaware jumped out to a 7-2 start that included big victo-ries over No. 14 James Madison on Sept. 28 and a thrilling 32-31last minute triumph over eventual NCAA FCS national runner-upTowson on Nov. 2. Two of Hens’ five losses came by three points orless and the squad was an impressive 5-2 at Delaware Stadium.

A total of nine Blue Hen players received All-CAA notice ledby defensive tackle Zach Kerr, who earned All-American notice andan invitation to the East-West Shrine All-Star Game and theNational Football League Scouting Combine.

Kerr (Indianapolis Colts) was one of three Blue Hens to signNFL free agent contracts following the season, joining defensiveback Travis Hawkins (New England Patriots) and offensive tackleErle Ladson (Oakland Raiders).

Delaware scored 30 or more points eight times and rankedNo. 2 in the CAA in scoring offense (31.2 points per game) and No.3 in passing offense (240.0 yards per game). On special teams, the Hens led the CAA in net punting, blocked punts for and against, and punt returns.

“I'm thrilled to welcome Dave Brock to UD,” said Universityof Delaware President Patrick T. Harker in making the announce-ment on Jan. 18, 2013. “Dave has substantial coaching experi-ence at some highly competitive schools and has nurtured animpressive roster of players. Just as importantly, Dave has astrong reputation for integrity and caring leadership. I think ourstudent-athletes will thrive with him as their coach and mentor. And I know Dave will benefit from working with such a talentedand committed group of young men.”

Brock, 47, came to Delaware after serving one season as theoffensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach under coach KyleFlood at Rutgers University. In 2012, Rutgers posted a 9-4 record,

won a share of the Big East title, and advance to the RussellAthletic Bowl. Prior to Rutgers, Brock coached at Boston College,Kansas State, North Carolina, Temple, Hofstra, Salisbury State, andWestern Connecticut State.

“The opportunity to coach at a place with such a storied tra-dition, in the footprint of where I grew up and where I havecoached most of my life, is an honor for my family and I am hum-bled by the opportunity,” said Brock. “The University of Delawarerepresents excellence in academics and athletics and I want tothank President Harker and Eric [Ziady] for inviting me into thefamily.”

The New Jersey native’s coaching career includes stops atNorth Carolina, Temple, Hofstra, Kansas State and Boston College. He has been an offensive coordinator for seven of those seasonsand has mentored many current NFL standouts, including HakeemNicks (Indianapolis Colts), Josh Freeman (current free agent),Jordy Nelson (Green Bay Packers), and Marques Colston (NewOrleans Saints).

Despite being picked to finish lastin the ACC's Atlantic Division in preseason media voting, the 2009Eagles finished with an 8-5 record and came within one win ofplaying in a third consecutive ACC Championship Game.

Brock spent the 2008 season as Kansas State's offensivecoordinator and wide receivers coach after coaching the wideoutsin 2007. Kansas State ranked 18th nationally in passing (269.6)and 19th in scoring offense (34.9) under Brock's leadership.

As offensive coordinator at Kansas State, Brock spearheadeda Wildcat offense that produced the 2008 Big 12 OffensiveNewcomer of the Year in wide receiver Brandon Banks and KansasState's most prolific passer in school history in quarterback JoshFreeman. Banks set a Wildcat junior record with 67 receptions and1,049 yards while Freeman became Kansas State's career leaderin passing attempts, completions, yards, touchdowns and totaloffense in 2008.

In 2007, Brock tutored Kansas State's Jordy Nelson, who wasa consensus All-American and Biletnikoff Award finalist, as well asBig 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year Deon Murphy. Nelson, whobecame the Wildcats' first-ever offensive consensus All-American,ranked second in the nation in receptions (10.2) and receivingyards per game (133.8) en route to setting 11 Kansas Statereceiving records.

LAST TIME OUT FOR DELAWARE: WAIT WORTH IT AS HENS DOWN DELSTATE 27-9NEWARK, Del. (Sept. 7, 2014) -- The University of Delaware had to wait a day to earn its first victory of the season, but the

delay was certainly worth it. The annual First State Cup matchup between the Blue Hens (1-1) and Delaware State (0-2) was postponed dueto heavy rains and lightning Saturday evening, so the two schools located just 45 minutes away hit the field Sunday afternoon with Delawarerecording a 27-9 victory at sun-splashed Delaware Stadium.

Delaware sophomore running back Jalen Randolph earned the Nate Beasley Game Most Valuable Player Award after rushing for aseason-high 118 yards and two touchdowns, senior quarterback Trent Hurley hit on 17 of 21 passes for 172 yards, and junior defensivetackle Vince Hollerman led the defensive effort with three sacks as the Blue Hens improved to 6-0 all-time in the series.

“We were excited to finally play the game and excited to get the win,” said Delaware head coach Dave Brock. “At this point, weneed to play football games, get things on tape, and make corrections. We are making strides. If we grind away one week at a time, wehave the chance to be a pretty good football team when it matters most.”

The Blue Hens bounced back from a tough season-opening 62-0 loss at Pitt last week as they ran up 450 total yards, allowed just 325total yards, and recorded four sacks. Senior Michael Johnson set up two scores with long kickoff returns, set two school records, caughtseven passes for 67 yards, and finished with 186 all-purpose yards, while junior Garrett Greenway added his first two career field goals.Delaware jumped out to a 23-3 halftime lead and scored on five of its first seven possessions to win going away.

In addition to remaining perfect in the series with Delaware State, the Blue Hens also won their 10th straight home opener, capturedtheir 21st straight non-league victory at home - all by double figures - and extended their scoring streak to 205 straight games at DelawareStadium since 1983.

Johnson, one of the top all-purpose threats in the country, returned two kickoffs for 84 yards with both leading to Delaware scores. Inthe process, he tied the school record for most career kickoff returns (72 by Eddie Conti in 1994-98) and set the all-time UD career kickoffreturn yardage mark with 1,689 yards, breaking the mark of 1,683 by Rashaad Woodard in 2003-06.

Johnson returned the opening kickoff 38 yards to set up a 72-yard scoring drive that was capped by a one-yard burst by sophomoreWes Hills just 3:53 into the game. After Delaware State answered with a 26-yard field goal by Mitchell Ward early in the second quarter, the Hens reeled off 13 straight points as Randolph scored from 20 yards out with 10:53 left to cap a short drive set up by Johnson’s 46-yard return, and Greenway later converted field goals from 34 and 27 yards, the second one with just one second left in the half that gaveUD a 20-3 advantage at the break. Delaware never let the Hornets get back in the game in the second half as Randolph scored on a weav-ing 46-yard dash on the first drive of stanza to push the lead to 27-3.

LAST TIME OUT FOR COLGATE: RED RAIDERS FALL TO BALL STATE IN HUNT’S DEBUTMUNCIE, Ind. (Aug. 30, 2014) -- Colgate couldn't drum up one of those FBS-buster upsets they've fashioned in the past, but the

Raiders were respectable in a 30-10 loss to Ball State in their season opener Aug. 30. Colgate, playing its first game under new head coach and former longtime offensive coordinator Ken Hunt, had a bye week last

Saturday. The Mid-American Conference hosts scored 10 points in each of the first three quarters, but Colgate kept within shouting distance. The

Raiders turned an Adam Bridgeforth end-zone interception into an 80-yard scoring drive that made it 13-7 in the second, and JonahBowman tacked on a 37-yard field goal early in the fourth for the Maroon points.

Chris Morgan drew his first career start at cornerback and the sophomore responded with a game- and career-high 14 tackles. Andtight end John Quazza emerged as quarterback Jake Melville's favorite early target with six catches for 92 yards – both career-high fig-ures. Melville finished 14-of-26 passing for 137 yards, with a long of 37 to Quazza. Melville also rushed four times for 13 yards.

Colgate's rushing game netted 90 yards on 28 carries – and the Raiders would have topped the century mark if not for an errantsnap that cost 18 yards. Demetrius Russell led the way with eight carries for 39 yards, while John Travellin scored the team's only touch-down on a 4-yard scamper to cap that impressive second-period march. John Wilkins added 31 yards on eight carries in his first action sincelast season's knee injury.

DELAWARE LOOKS TO CONTINUE IMPRESSIVE HOME WIN STREAK VS. NON-LEAGUE FOESDelaware will take on the second of three non-league opponents at Delaware Stadium this week when the Blue Hens take on Colgate

University out of the Patriot League. The Blue Hens have enjoyed outstanding success vs. non-league opponents, especially at home whereDelaware has currently won 21 straight contests, including the 27-9 win over Delaware State in the First State Cup matchup this past Sunday.Incidentally, all 21 of those victories came by 10 points or more.

Delaware extended the streak last season with a 3-0 mark vs. non-league foes at home, defeating Jacksonville 51-35 in the seasonopener, Delaware State by a 42-21 margin, and with a 49-9 win over Wagner.

The Blue Hens have not lost to a non-league opponent at home since a 17-10 setback to former Northeast Conference member (andnow a CAA member) Albany on Sept. 16, 2006. That wins streak include NCAA Tournament victories over Delaware State in 2007 and overLehigh and Georgia Southern in 2010.

The Hens will also host Sacred Heart (Oct. 4) this season to wrap up the non-league slate.

HOME SWEET HOME Delaware boasts one of the top home-field advantages in all of college football. Not only do Blue Hen fans pack Delaware Stadium

each week - helping UD become the only NCAA FCS team in the nation to average 20,000 or more fans per regular season home game 12seasons between 1999-2010 - they see consistently winning football.

Delaware has won 36 of its last 49 home games and is 293-93-4 (.764) in 62 seasons all-time at Delaware Stadium, including a markof 20-5 with eighth straight wins in the post-season. Delaware went 5-2 at home in Dave Brock’s first season at the helm in 2013 and theHens are now 6-2 here in his two seasons. The Hens have now posted a winning or .500 season at home seven straight years and in all buttwo seasons since 1984.

Delaware ranked No. 7 in NCAA FCS in average home attendance in 2013, averaging 18,108 fans per game. Delaware trailed onlyMontana (24,380), James Madison (21,011), Southern (20,017), Yale (19,809), Montana State (19,704), and North Dakota State(18,622) in the national attendance rankings.

Attendance at Sunday’s home opener vs. Delaware State was 12,511 and was greatly diminished by the postponement of the gamefrom Saturday evening to Sunday afternoon due to severe storms that swept through Newark. Still, that mark of 12,511 was the eighthlargest crowd in NCAA FCS this past weekend.

DELAWARE TOUGH IN HOME OPENERS Following Sunday’s 27-9 win over Delaware State, Delaware is now 51-11 (.822) in home openers since Delaware Stadium opened in

1952. The Blue Hens have now won 10 straight and 23 of their last 25 home debuts in these friendly confines.

EARLY SEASON SUCCESS AT DELAWARE STADIUMDelaware, which opened the 2013 season with home victories of 51-35 over Jacksonville (Fla.), 42-21 over Delaware State, and 49-

9 over Wagner, has now won its first three home games each of the last three years and has a streak of 15 straight home victories in themonths of August and September heading into this week’s matchup with Colgate.

The Blue Hens have not lost a home game in the months of August or September since a 16-15 loss to Colonial Athletic Associationopponent Richmond on Sept. 12, 2009.

BLUE HENS LOOK TO EXTEND HOME STREAK TO 206 STRAIGHT GAMES VS. COLGATEA rarity occurred Aug. 30 when Delaware was shutout in a season-opening 62-0 loss at the hands of host Pittsburgh. The shutout loss

snapped Delaware’s streak of 220 straight games scoring a point - a streak that dated all the way back to a 27-0 setback to Villanova backon Sept. 14, 1996. It also marked the first time Delaware has been shutout on opening day since a 21-0 setback to Lehigh in the 1950opener while also snapping a streak of 99 straight road games scoring a point. The 220-game streak was the longest among Colonial AthleticAssociation teams.

But the Hens still have two impressive scoring streaks that they will continue to put to the test this week vs. Colgate. Delaware has not been held off the scoreboard at home at Delaware Stadium since suffering a 24-0 setback to Holy Cross way back

on Nov. 12, 1983 - a streak of 205 straight games. And, since Pitt was an FBS opponent, the Hens have still scored a point in 197 straightgames against FCS foes since the 1996 loss to Villanova.

BLUE HENS SELECT 2014 CAPTAINSFour standout seniors, each of whom will play a key role as the University of Delaware football squad looks to earn its first postsea-

son berth since 2010, have been selected as captains for the 2014 season.Tight end Nick Boyle (High Point Regional/Wantage, N.J.), linebacker Patrick Callaway (Martin Luther King/Decatur, Ga.), safe-

ty Jake Giusti (Fletcher/Neptune Beach, Fla.), and wide receiver Michael Johnson (Gainesville/Gainesville, Fla.) were selected as cap-tains for the upcoming season from a vote of the 17 seniors on the squad and the coaching staff.

Delaware will have four captains for the first time since the 2011 team had five players serve in that leadership role. The Blue Hensalso had four or more captains during the 1996 and 2008 campaigns.

“There will be a lot on each kid’s table,” said Brock of the captains, who will lead a young team that includes 23 true freshmen and20 redshirt freshmen. “I think they are up to it. You want a lot of leaders on your team and a collection of guys bringing everyone togeth-er. These four know that it’s more about what you do and not what you say. They have to be conscious of the example they set and thattheir legacy will be about whether they can make this a playoff team.

“Where they can have the biggest impact is how they mentor this special group of freshmen in terms of teaching them how we dothings, the expectations that are set, and holding them to those expectations,” said Brock. “And of course, the obligation of good playerslike these four are is to play well.”

Boyle, Callaway, and Johnson each earned All-Colonial Athletic Association honors a year ago while Giusti, the only player left fromthat 2010 squad that advanced to the NCAA FCS title game, returns to action after missing all but three games with an injury in 2013.

YOUTH MOVEMENTThe University of Delaware will have one of its youngest teams in recent memory this fall as the 2014 roster currently features 23

true freshmen, 20 redshirt freshmen, and 22 sophomores. Of the 98 members on the current roster, 57 have never played in a collegegame. Delaware’s current two-deep includes 12 true and redshirt freshmen and head coach Dave Brock expects almost every true fresh-man on defense to see action this coming season.

A total of 23 Blue Hens saw action in their first career game Saturday vs. Pitt: C Brody Kern, CB Justin Watson, CB Malcolm Brown, LBCharles Bell, TE Kyle Yocum, SS Simba Gwashavanhu, LB Donte Raymond, WR Troy Gallen, LB Anthony Jackson, RB Kareem Williams, KKevin McLaughlin, LB Larry Spears, LB Brandon Henderson, DE Jordan Andrews, DT Grant Roberts, C Peter Thistle, OT Jake Trump, DT BlaineWoodson, WR Diante Cherry, WR Andrew Peterson, DL Bilal Nichols, DE John Nassib, and DE Cedric Udegbe. And a 24th player saw his firstcareer action this past Saturday when TE Brandon Whaley saw action as the backup behind Nick Boyle.

DELAWARE’S CAA SUCCESSDelaware has enjoyed great success in conference play since joining the Yankee Conference (now the Colonial Athletic Association)

back in 1986. The Blue Hens, who have won outright or shared nine league titles during that time, own the best record in league playamong all current CAA teams that have played more than two seasons, posting a record of 143-83, good for a .632 winning percentage.

Delaware’s .632 winning percentage is tops among active CAA squads, surpassing Villanova (.589), James Madison (.568), William &Mary (.568), and New Hampshire (.540) in the top five.

During the last five seasons, Delaware ranks No. 2 among all CAA teams in overall winning percentage with a mark of .627 (32-19),trailing only New Hampshire (34-19, .642). Over the last 10 seasons, Delaware ranks No. 4 among all CAA teams with an overall winningmark of .574 (64-47), trailing only New Hampshire (.692), Richmond (.660), James Madison (.640), and Villanova (.601).

BLUE HENS PICKED NO. 6 IN CAA PRESEASON COACHES POLL; BOYLE, ENDERSON NAMED TO ALL-CAA TEAM

The University of Delaware football squad found itself in the middle of the pack when the Colonial Athletic Association announced itspreseason coaches poll July 23 as part of the annual CAA Media Day festivities at M&T Bank Stadium.

The Blue Hens were picked No. 6 in the preseason poll that included the votes of head coaches and sports information directors fromeach of the 12 CAA schools. New Hampshire was the preseason favorite with 15 first place votes and was followed by Villanova (2),Richmond (3), William and Mary (3), Towson, Delaware, Maine, James Madison (1), Stony Brook, Albany, Rhode Island, and league new-comer Elon.

In addition to the team rankings, the CAA also announced the preseason all-conference team with the Blue Hens placing senior tightend Nick Boyle and sophomore punter Eric Enderson on the team.

Boyle, a second team All-CAA pick in 2013, caught 42 passes for 474 yards and seven touchdowns a year ago while Enderson, whoearned second team All-CAA and freshman All-American notice, set a school record and ranked No. 3 in the nation in punting with a 45.0yard average per kick.

DELAWARE TO PLAY FIVE ACC SCHOOLS OVER NEXT SIX SEASONS Atlantic Coast Conference opponents will be familiar names on the University of Delaware football squad’s schedule in the coming sea-

sons, UD Director of Athletics and Recreation Services Eric Ziady announced in August. Delaware has finalized deals with five ACC schoolsto play road games against teams from that powerful NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision conference over the next six seasons.

The Blue Hens, who opened the 2014 campaign Aug. 30 at ACC opponent Pittsburgh, have also worked out agreements to travel tothe University of North Carolina (Sept. 26, 2015), Wake Forest (Sept. 17, 2016), Virginia Tech (Sept. 2, 2017), Pittsburgh (Aug. 31, 2019),and North Carolina State (Sept. 5, 2020).

Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, and North Carolina all played in bowl games following the 2013 season while Virginia Tech, North CarolinaState, and Pittsburgh all appeared in bowl games during the 2012 campaign. Ziady noted that he is still looking to schedule an NCAA FBSopponent for the 2018 season.

“These future schedules represent a great opportunity for the players in our program to compete against some of the best teams inthe country,” said Delaware head coach Dave Brock. “We look forward to the opportunity to compete annually against some of thenation’s best. This will create great excitement for our football team and for all the people who love Delaware football.”

Since the 2003 season, the Blue Hens have played eight games against FBS opponents, facing Navy (2003, 2004, 2007, 2009, 2011,and 2013), Maryland (2008), and Pittsburgh (2014).

GEORGIA FLAVOR ON DEFENSEThe University of Delaware has a definite Georgia flavor on the defensive side of the ball, especially on the defensive front. Four

Delaware defensive starters hail from the Peach State, including 2013 All-Colonial Athletic Association linebacker Patrick Callaway(Decatur, Ga.), who led the team with 120 stops a year ago. Three of the Hens’ four starters on the defensive front hail from the state ledby senior DE Derrick Saulsberry (St. Mary’s, Ga.), junior DE Vince Hollerman (Woodbine, Ga.), and junior DT Josh Plummer (St.Mary’s, Ga.). Saulsberry led the Blue Hens in sacks (8) and tackles for loss (14) a year ago. Saulsberry, Plummer, and Hollerman all grad-uated from Camden County High School.

DELAWARE WELL REPRESENTED IN THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUEA total of 11 former University of Delaware football student-athletes were on National Football

League rosters this summer and six are slated to be on active regular season rosters. Defensive back Mike Adams (Indianapolis), quarterback Joe Flacco (Baltimore) offensive

linemen Gino Gradkowski (Baltimore), linebacker Paul Worrilow (Atlanta), defensive backMarcus Burley (Seattle), and rookie defensive tackle Zach Kerr (Indianapolis) all made theirteam’s 53-player rosters and played for their teams this past weekend.

Among the former players released during the preseason were DE Ronald Talley (Tampa Bay),DB Anthony Walters (Arizona), OT Erle Ladson (Oakland), CB Travis Hawkins (New England),and QB Pat Devlin (Miami). Talley had played the last four years with Arizona, Walters had playedthe last three years with Chicago, Devlin had played the last three seasons with Miami, and Ladsonand Hawkins were rookies.

Flacco led Baltimore to a Super Bowl victory and was named the game’s MVP following the 2012season. He will start for the Ravens for the seventh straight season this fall. Worrilow led the Falconsin tackles as a rookie free agent in 2013 and is slated to start again this season. Adams, a 10-yearNFL veteran, led Denver to the Super Bowl last year and signed a free agent contract with Indianapolisduring the off-season. Burley was traded by Indianapolis to Seattle last week.

In addition, former Blue Hen quarterback Matt Nagy (Kansas City) serves as the Chiefs quar-terbacks coach.

MORE NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE TIESCurrent Blue Hen freshmen Kareem Williams and defensive end John Nassib also have

some strong ties to the National Football League as both have brothers playing with the New YorkGiants. William’s brother Andre, a Heisman Trophy finalist at Boston College last season, is a rookierunning back with the Giants while Nassib’s older brother, Ryan, is a third-year Giants backup quar-terback.

NOW THAT’S CONSISTENCYSince 1990, only four schools that have competed at the NCAA FCS level during that entire time

period have won at least four games every single season. Delaware is one of those programs that havebeen the model of consistency - joining Montana, Northern Iowa, and Eastern Kentucky. The last timethe Blue Hens failed to win at least four games in a season came in 1967. For Montana it was 1985,for Northern Iowa it was 1978, and for Eastern Kentucky it was 1964. Last season Delaware reachedthe seven-win mark for the first time since 2011 (7-4) and for the 16th time since 1990.

NICE START COACH BROCKA new era of University of Delaware football began last year with new head coach Dave Brock,

who became just the fifth man since 1940 to hold the post for the Blue Hens. Brock enjoyed successearly as the Hens went 7-5 with wins over Jacksonville, Delaware State, Wagner, James Madison,Albany, Rhode Island, and Towson.

Brock’s seven wins made him the first football head coach in Delaware history to win seven ormore games in his first season. Hall of Fame head coach Tubby Raymond and Brock’s predecessorK.C. Keeler each won six games in their initial season at the UD helm. Raymond went 6-3 in 1966while Keeler posted a 6-6 mark his first season.

With the Jacksonville and Delaware State wins, Brock became just the fifth head coach in UD his-tory win his first two games, joining Nathan Mannakee (1903), Frank Forstburg (1925), NeilStahley (1934), and Raymond (1966).

Brock then fell just short of joining Raymond as the only coaches to start their Delaware careerwith a 5-1 record when the Hens dropped a road game at Maine on Oct. 5. Brock also became just thethird Delaware football head coach to win his first five home games, joining William McAvoy (5 in1922) and Keeler (5 in 2002).

PRE-GAME WALK, POST-GAME ALMA MATER AMONG NEW TRADI-TIONS IN ‘13

Blue Hen fans were invited to join in on two all-new and unique Delaware Football gamedayexperiences that began last fall. Fans can come out and greet members of the Blue Hen football squad

during pre-game as they march down Stadium Drive escorted by the DelawareMarching Band, Cheerleaders, and Spirit Groups on their way to the lockerroom.

The walk begins approximately two and one-half hours before kickoff.Fans were also invited to stick around after each home game and join the BlueHens as they head to the southwest corner of the field to sing the alma materalong with the Delaware Marching Band.

Also new last year, a member of the team who hails from the State ofDelaware led the Blue Hens out of the tunnel waving the state flag accompa-nied by a teammate carrying the U.S. flag.

Below is a list of 2014 game flag bearers:Pittsburgh - Derrick Saulsberry (U.S.) / Justin Glenn (Delaware)Delaware State - Justin Burns (U.S.) / C.J. Jones (Delaware)

A BLUE HEN IN THE WHITE HOUSE...AND AT DELAWARE STADIUMWhen U.S. President Barack Obama and running mate, former Delaware Senator Joe Biden,

won the 2008 presidential election, it was big news. And even bigger news for the citizens of Delawareand those affiliated with UD. In November, 2012, Obama and Biden were elected for another four-year term to lead the country.

A 1965 graduate of the University of Delaware with degrees in history and political science,Biden played on the Blue Hen freshman football team in 1961 under head coach Scotty Duncan butdid not play varsity football after that. Biden, a member of the UD Wall of Fame and an ardentDelaware football fan, considered himself “a half-baked halfback” during his brief UD football career.

Biden made his first visit to Delaware Stadium as Vice-President on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2009 as heattended the Maine game and sat with UD President Patrick Harker and current New JerseyGovernor Chris Christie (also a UD graduate) throughout the entire contest.

He made another visit to Delaware Stadium in 2010 when he attended Delaware’s 16-3 NCAAquarterfinal win over New Hampshire on Dec. 10. He also attended the Hens’ 2010 national champi-onship game in Frisco, Tex. with Christie and Delaware Gov. Jack Markell.

Biden met with then head coach K.C. Keeler and members of the team on Sept. 19, 2008 whenBiden’s plane was parked on the same tarmac as the Delaware charter at New Castle County (Del.)prior to its trip to Furman. Biden later made an appearance at the Blue Hens’ game vs. Maine atDelaware Stadium on Oct. 11, 2008.

SHAMELESS SELF PROMOTIONUniversity of Delaware Assistant AD for Media Relations Scott Selheimer will be on hand to

cover his 276th straight UD football game this week vs. Colgate. He has staffed every game - home and away - since the 1992 season opener vs. Massachusetts.

The streak includes 28 NCAA playoff games and three national championship contests. Delaware’s overall record stands at 182-92-1 (.664) during those 275 games.

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- It was a tough day in the season opener for Delaware as host Pittsburghjumped out to big halftime lead and never looked back in dropping the Hens.

Delaware (0-1) had its troubles all day on both sides of the ball and suffered its first shutout losssince the 1996 season, a span of 220 games. Delaware suffered its worst loss since an 89-0 setbackto Penn in 1921 and the team’s 57 total yards was the third lowest in school history.

Pitt, a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference and the winner of last year's Little Caesar’s PizzaBowl, piled up 501 yards of total offense and took advantage of three turnovers on the way to set-ting a team record for most points scored in a game at Heinz Field.

Delaware QB Trent Hurley, who grew up just about an hour away from Pittsburgh, completed 6of 13 passes for 19 yards and was intercepted three times and sacked twice. On the ground, the Hensmanaged just 33 net yards with Wes Hills each picking up 27 yards. The Hens converted just 1 of 11third down opportunities, recorded five first downs, and were hurt by seven penalties for 40 yards.

Blue Hen All-American sophomore punter Eric Enderson, who ranked No. 3 in the nation last yearwith a school-record 45.0 yards average, was a bright spot again as he punted eight times for a 46.6yard average.

Defensively, first-year transfer safety C.J. Jones led the Hens with a team-high seven tackleswhile senior linebacker David Mackall made six stops and safety Simba Gwashavanhu had four stops,a pass breakup, and a forced fumble in his collegiate debut.

Running back James Conner led Pitt as he carried 14 times for 153 yards and scored four touch-downs with all four scores coming in the first half as the Panthers built a 42-0 lead. Quarterback ChadVoytik hit on 10 of 13 passes for 84 yards and two scores.

NEWARK, Del. -- Delaware had to wait a day to earn its first victory of the season, but the delaywas certainly worth it. The annual First State Cup matchup between the Hens (1-1) and DelawareState (0-2) was postponed due to storms Saturday evening, so the two schools located just 45 minutesaway hit the field Sunday afternoon.

Delaware running back Jalen Randolph earned the Nate Beasley MVP Award after rushing for aseason-high 118 yards and two touchdowns, quarterback Trent Hurley hit on 17 of 21 passes for 172yards, and defensive tackle Vince Hollerman led the defensive effort with three sacks as the Blue Hensimproved to 6-0 all-time in the series.

The Blue Hens bounced back from a tough season-opening 62-0 loss at Pitt as they ran up 450total yards, allowed just 325 total yards, and recorded four sacks. Michael Johnson set up two scoreswith long kickoff returns, set two school records, caught seven passes for 67 yards, and finished with186 all-purpose yards, while Garrett Greenway added his first two career field goals. Delawarejumped out to a 23-3 halftime lead and scored on five of its first seven possessions to win going away.

The Hens also won their 10th straight home opener, captured their 21st straight non-league vic-tory at home - all by double figures - and extended their scoring streak to 205 straight games atDelaware Stadium since 1983.

Johnson, one of the top all-purpose threats in the country, returned two kickoffs for 84 yardswith both leading to Delaware scores. In the process, he tied the school record for most career kickoffreturns (72 by Eddie Conti in 1994-98) and set the all-time UD career kickoff return yardage markwith 1,689 yards, breaking the mark of 1,683 by Rashaad Woodard in 2003-06.

Johnson returned the opening kickoff 38 yards to set up a 72-yard scoring drive that was cappedby a one-yard burst by sophomore Wes Hills just 3:53 into the game. After Delaware State answeredwith a 26-yard field goal by Mitchell Ward early in the second quarter, the Hens reeled off 13 straightpoints as Randolph scored from 20 yards out with 10:53 left to cap a short drive set up by Johnson’s46-yard return, and Greenway later converted field goals from 34 and 27 yards, the second one withjust one second left in the half that gave UD a 20-3 advantage at the break.

Delaware never let the Hornets get back in the game in the second half as Randolph scored ona weaving 46-yard dash on the first drive of stanza to push the lead to 27-3.
