Executive Summary

The BowTie Foundation needed to develop a new sponsorship plan for the 2015 Galloping Pig Polo

event. The 2014 event had raised $12,000, but for this year’s event, the goal was set to raise $20,000

for Gen 1 House. The goal- to buy a business suit for each resident of the house to wear to job

interviews and networking events, giving them the confidence to succeed. In the past, no sponsorship

or in-kind donation had exceeded $5000, so the goal for 2015 is to increase the sponsorship funding.

Team Wellington first looked at the previous sponsorship plans, what was offered, and what funding

was received last year. We felt the following changes were in order:

Develop a sponsorship flyer that was more visually appealing, with a clear explanation

of sponsor benefits.

Provide more benefits for the sponsorship levels

Add an intermediate sponsorship level between the $1000 and $5000 level to provide a

stepping stone to larger donations.

Increase the social media presence of sponsors, benefiting from the large following of

Dhani Jones, himself, as well as BowTie Cause and the Galloping pig

Develop a plan to increase donations made during the event itself by holding a basket

raffle for donated items and experiences.

Database Plan

Team Wellington focused on finding potential donors for a basket raffle. We looked primarily at

locally owned businesses, or those with headquarters in the Cincinnati area. The database is broken

down into three categories- Restaurants, experiences, and miscellaneous. In soliciting for donations,

they key would be to help the potential donors understand the benefit of having their product or service

associated with BowTie Cause, and the potential for new business from the basket raffle winners.

Contacts were provided where available, many restaurants change management often, so only a

general number was added for many of those. Appendix C provides a sample donation request letter to

provide to the businesses.

Social Media Plan

One of the group goals was to create a social media plan that offered increased visibility for sponsors,

and a connection between the sponsor, BowTie Cause, and the Galloping Pig event. The plan is broken

down by sponsorship levels, as decided by our original sponsorship plan.

Mention them on Twitter during all event mentions as the Title sponsor

Have Dhani take a photo with title sponsor for both parties to use

Use a banner/sign of the company as a backdrop for events or photo opportunities, and then

post those on social media sites.

Basket Raffle

One idea that the team decided on was to create a way to generate more funds during the event itself.

The idea of a silent auction was vetoed, the biggest drawback being the necessity to contact winners to

receive payment. We decided that a basket raffle was the best option for this type of event. A basket

raffle works as follows:

o Solicit local business for donations of gift cards and products for the baskets.

o Once all donations are received, group items together to put into baskets, working to

make all baskets have a face value of $100 or more. For example, if the Aronoff

provides show tickets, add a downtown restaurant certificate and a salon gift certificate

to create a “night on the town” basket.

o Raffle items could also include game-worn polo jerseys of the players.

o Display baskets during the event, with buckets in front to collect tickets.

o Four volunteers would be needed to sell tickets for the baskets- $10 each, 3 for $25 as a

suggested price point. Once tickets are purchased, people would write their names on

the ticket and place into the bucket in front of any of the baskets they would like to win.

Money is collected up front, there is no need to ask for payment to receive the basket.

o At a designated time, possibly between the 5th & 6th chukker, a winner is randomly

picked from each bucket, and people are encouraged to go back to the tables to see if

they won. The goal would be to have all baskets claimed prior to the end of the event,

but with the contact information, they could be claimed at a later time.

Manager/Owner name,

We are currently planning for the Third Annual Galloping Pig, a fundraiser for BowTie Cause, whose

mission is to provide opportunities for socially conscious organizations to spark conversation, raise

awareness, and ultimately, generate funds. The 2015 Galloping Pig is a polo match held in Milford,

OH, and will benefit the University of Cincinnati’s GEN-1 Theme House. Gen-1 is an innovative

University of Cincinnati initiative that promotes the academic success of first-generation, Pell-eligible

college students. During its 5-year history, Gen-1 has demonstrated that this population of students can

be successful when support services are provided.

This year we will be raising additional funds by holding a basket raffle. We would like to request a

donation of either gift cards, products, or services to offer in our gift baskets. The event will be held

on Saturday, September 12th, we would like to have all donations no later than September 1st, to allow

us time to organize the items.

We appreciate your consideration and any donation that you would be able to supply. If you have any

questions, or are interested in learning more about the event, please feel free to contact us at 513-722-

5579, www.thegallopingpig.com, or email Amanda Williams at [email protected].
