Teachers are aware that technology is part of human life and linking it with classroom activities promote certain

hesitant to maximize its use because they are intimidated with the various possibilities that technology can do and it might take time to learn all these things.

Fret not! Here are some tips on how to be a techie teacher in your classroom or center:

1. Make use of what you haveA techie classroom does not require to have the latest gadget or techie educational material. A simple computer is enough to be able to

for free or a minimal amount that the students may utilize in order to develop certain concepts. Google Drive just requires an internet connection, and students may be able to exercise their creativity while being collaborative with other students.

2. Create a class blogEncourage students to write book reports, stories, and other compositions by creating a class blog. Blogs such as www.blogger.com and www.wordpress.com allow multiple bloggers under one account, which allows your students to post their entries anytime of the day and anywhere as long as they have a gadget, a computer, and an internet connection. You may also publish your students’ work on your center’s Facebook page so that their parents may see their children’s progress even if it is not Parent-Teacher Conferences time.

3. Communicate with other teachers using forumsand chatroomsAlmost everyone has a Facebook account or a Gmail account. Create groups on Facebook that will allow you to quickly share

teaching strategies. Use the chat feature to discuss classroom management concerns and solutions.

4. Put grades onlineUsing your Gmail account, maximize the use of Google drive. Keep track of your students’ grades on Google Sheets (even let Google Sheets compute the grades for you). Share them with parents and students using only your phone or a tablet and an internet connection. Google Drive is free on the App Store for iOS or Google Play store for Android.

TECHNOLOGY AT HOME

Set rules in the use of gadgets and follow themParents may set a time frame when gadgets may be used. For example, gadgets should be

put down during homework and study time. Children

has been accomplished. In turn, parents too should also set an example and put down their gadgets for a period of time. Also set consequences for positive and negative use of technology.

Explain that having gadgets is a privilegeHaving to use a gadget is an earned privilege.

schoolwork and not their gadgets. If the internet or computers are necessary, children should learn that the internet should not lead them away from accomplishing their schoolwork.

Teach your child rules on internet safety

your child is entering in, just like going to school, or to the mall with their friends. It is best that you discuss with them some situations that they may encounter and how they will handle it. Tell them some safety rules such as a) never to share their password with anyone, b) not to give out personal

information, c) to be careful with their language and choice of words, and d) not to agree to meet up with strangers from the internet.

UnplugSet technology-free zones where the whole family can enjoy each other’s company. Go out

on a trip, play a board game, have a lively conversation and talk about each other’s daily activities. It might help that the internet is disabled for a couple of hours so that there will be no temptation to check their online group messages.

By creating a healthy technological environment at home, children will learn how to balance their time with and without their gadgets.

Having excellent study skills is a crucial learning skill that every child needs to develop. Studies have shown that when a student has excellent study skills, he is most likely to succeed in school and in life. It requires discipline, dedication, perseverance, and the right guidance in order for this skill to be attained.

Galileo Enrichment Learning Program is launching a new supplementary program for their students called the Galileo Enrichment Plus.of study skills and learning independence by facilitating their homework period and preparation for exams. Students will be taught how to properly manage their time in order to balance their school work, homework, and extracurricular activities. Students who are currently under the supplementary program, along with the core enrichment programs, have

achieved academic success and they represented their schools in Math and English Competitions here and abroad.
