Transcript of Galileo
Hi, We are Elwira and
Kinga. We are going to travel back in time to
visit Galileo. Let’s meet him
now.
Galileo was born in Italy in 1564. He was a scientist. He was also an inventor. He did many experiments. As a result he discovered many things.
People thought heavy objects fell faster. Galileo was not sure. He decided to test his idea. He went to a tall tower. He dropped two balls at the same time. One was heavy. One was light. They both hit the ground at about the same time. He said that heavy objects did not fall faster.
Galileo invented a thermometer. At first it had a tube with water inside. The water moved up when it got hotter. The water moved down when it was cold.
Galileo was also an astronometr. He looked at the planets and stars. They are far away from the Earth. It is hard to see them without a telescope. Galileo made the telescope. Than he could see them much better.
People though the Moon was smooth and round. Galileo used his telescope. He looked at the Moon and what he did he find out? It was not smooth. He could see mountains on it. He could also see something which looked like valleys. He drew what he sew.
Galileo used his telescope to look at the planets. He saw Jupiter and Saturn. He learned a lot of new things. He could see four moons moving around Jupiter. He saw rings of ice, dust and rocks around Saturn. the views were amazing.
People thought the sun and planets moved around the Earth. Galileo used his telescope. He observed the Sun and planets. He saw the planets move around the Sun. He approved what Copernicus previously found out that the Earth is not the center of the Solar System. The Sun is the center!
Galileo studied our galaxy for a long period of time. The galaxy looks like faraway clouds in the night sky. It is made of lots of stars. It is called the Milky Way. Galileo was the first to discover this.
