Classes include instruction in painting from upside-down photos, right-side-up still lifes, and timed pieces, using a variety of grounds. Copper Art Club Wednesday, December 4 • 9:30 am to 12:30 pm Winter Cards in Watercolor with Susie. This popular lesson returns again this year by request. No experience required. Give family and friends a beautiful piece of art this year. We will start with short color lesson to give you the tools to make a harmonious winter scene in any color scheme you choose. You will need an X-acto knife, masking (safe-release) tape, artist’s spray bottle, watercolor cards, small backboards, pencil, notebook, Pro-White, paper towels,

and watercolor supplies. Bring photos of any winter scenes that you have. Cost of class is $10 members, $15 non-members. After School Kids’ Klub Friday, December 6 • 4 pm to 6 pm
Watercolor Barn Animals with Irene Taylor of Sonora Focus on "seeing with your fingertips" drawing and watercolor painting. This class is designed for ages eight and above. All supplies are provided by the Kids’ Klub. If parents wish to buy any supplies for their children, here is a list of what Irene recommends for this class: #4 round and #10 filbert brush, 140 lb. watercolor paper (11x15), a sketchbook, a 2B pencil, kneaded
eraser, two ultra-fine Sharpie pens, a sturdy palette, a sturdy backboard to work on, and paper towels. Class size will be 4-8 students. Cost of instruction is $15. Saturday Kids’ Klub Saturday, December 7 • 10:30 am to noon Watercolor Angels with Kim Barrington of Angels Camp Join well-known local art teacher Kim Barrington and create a beautiful angel painting. Class instruction is completely free—most supplies are included. Funding for this class was obtained through silent auctions of local artists’ donated works. Class is limited to eight students. Students need to purchase a $5 supply kit to hold their place in the class. Please register by December 4.

Photoshop Paint ing Saturday, December 7 • 2 pm to 4 pm Introduction to Photoshop Painting with Jessica Daley Learn the basics of Photoshop and make a digital painting of your own! Jessica Daley graduated from the Academy of Art University with a B.A. in Illustration. Anyone interested in making his own digital paintings should sign up and stay

Learn beginning and intermediate skills of drawing, line, dimension, form, tonal value, design and composition. Gesture, Chiaroscuro, perspective and color value also incorporated. Learn to draw what you see, through a variety of techniques using pencil, graphite, charcoal and pastels. Supplies include Strathmore 400 drawing pad-‐-‐ medium or large size, or 500 Bristol board, or hot pressed drawing board. Angelique is a self-‐taught artist who furthered her skills at the
Art Institute and MFA Program at The Academy of Art. She has taught drawing and art exploration in Calaveras and Marin counties and is currently working on concept characters with fantasy themes for eBooks. watercolors: Permanent Red, Permanent Violet, Payne’s Grey, Royal Blue, Cobalt Blue, Hooker’s Green, Aureolin, Permanent Lemon Yellow, Burnt Sienna, and Burnt Umber. You will also need a quarter sheet of Winsor & Newton 140 Cold Press paper and masking fluid. Standard watercolors supplies include small spray bottle, paper towels, tissues, water container, Ultra Fine Sharpie. Cost is $50.

Get Started Sketching with Libby Fife of Valley Springs This four-‐session class is for anyone who is interested in the benefits of casual sketching both outdoors and indoors. Recording the natural environment through words and pictures can be rewarding and satisfying. Being able to sit still for a bit, while quieting the inner voice in order to observe and record, has a very calming effect. This class will focus on developing basic observational skills, learning how to describe
the environment simply, and creating sketches from these observations. The concepts and exercises presented are appropriate for absolute beginners and those with some casual doodling time under their belts. Even advanced sketchers can have some fun here. You do NOT need to be able to draw a straight line to enjoy this class! Supplies needed include a sketchbook such as the 8x8 spiral bound Super Bee Sketchbook for wet and dry media, an assortment of graphite pencils, pencil sharpener, eraser, and pens—try a variety. You may also want to use colored pencils, crayons, pan set of watercolors-‐-‐such as Koi, watercolor pencils, and a larger wash brush. This is a small class, from two to five students. Life Drawing Thursdays, January 9, 16, 23, 30 • 9 am to noon Life Drawing with George Allen Durkee Draw from a live nude model on Thursday mornings. No experience needed. $10 per session. Limited instruction if you want it, or George will stay out of your face if you don’t. Materials available at Town Hall Arts. You will need an 18x24 newsprint pad and drawing pencils
(charcoal or graphite – 4B and/or 6B).

Three-Day Outdoor Oi l Paint ing Workshop with George Al len Durkee Friday – Sunday, January 24-26 • 9 am to 5 pm George Allen Durkee is a San Francisco street artist turned Northern California landscape painter. He has been a contributing writer for The Artist’s Magazine and American Artist and is author of Expressive Oil Painting - An Open Air Approach to Creative Landscapes (North Light 2009) as well as two instructional videos. During this outdoor oil painting workshop you can get plenty of one-on-one help. George will not only show you the how of painting, but will explain why, and then help you learn by doing. You’ll receive personal coaching tailored to your current level of development and the painting goals you have set for yourself. To make the most of this workshop, you need some painting experience, but you don’t need to be an expert. You will need a minimum level of drawing skill. A deposit of $100 must be paid at the time of registration to guarantee placement. Enrollment is limited to eight painters. Cost for workshop: $300. Ask for materials list from Larry.
Folk Art Saturday, February 1 • 10 am to 4 pm Daisies and Berries—Folk Art with Cathy Chambers of Morgan Hill Join Cathy to make a darling little piece of 5x5 art that can be displayed on small black easels available for purchase at Town Hall Arts. You will need a 5x5 canvas painted with
black acrylic paint (prepared before class), disposable Strathmore 9x12 palette paper, 9x12 tracing paper, a sheet of black and white transfer paper, Connoisseur 6810 pallette knife, a stylus, and Royal Majestic brushes 4170 #4, 4250-#4, and 4595 #1. All supplies are available at Town Hall Arts. Cost of class is $40, with $20 deposit due January 25. Watercolor and Col lage Thursday and Friday, February 6, 7 • 10 am to 3 pm Watercolor & Collage with Martha Wallace of Avery

Learn how following Carolyn’s simple steps for laying out a strong design and using paths of light to turn on the drama! Thursday, February 20 • 10 am to 1 pm Birds of a Feather Birds are a popular symbol in today’s art market. Learn how to create realistic textures in feathers and also how to simplify shapes to create more abstracted symbols.
Friday, February 22 • 10 am to 1 pm Layers of Hidden Meaning Learn how to reveal hidden layers of meaning in your paintings. Carolyn will demonstrate how to develop acrylic skins to lay over your watercolor designs created in a “free play” session. The result? Moody, evocative paintings that can be full of hidden messages, looking much like encaustic (wax) paintings. Cost is $20 for each workshop--$60 for the three workshops.

Mosaics Saturday, February 22 • 10 am to 2 pm and Sunday, February 23 • noon to 1 pm Stained Glass Mosaic Stepping Stones with Kathie Peery of Copperopolis Saturday: glue pieces in place. Sunday: grout stone and polish (sealer will be given to apply the following day). Kathie will provide a pattern and jars and jars of colored glass for your background. All supplies are included for this project. Kathie has been doing stained glass for ten years and has expanded into mosaics as a means to use all of the scraps from glass panels. You can never have too many stepping-stones! Class cost: $20. Improve Your Paint ing May and June 2014 • 10 am to noon Improve Your Painting with Sunny Sorensen of Hathaway Pines Lesson plans will include instruction and practice in creating the armature (structure) with line and notans, massing and abstracting shapes, keying value to color and creating color shapes, types of edges and how to use them effectively, and various methods of guiding the eye through the painting-‐-‐when you need a focal point and when you don't. All work will be done from life, most in studio, and some outside in the second month. Students should be willing to do one 1/2 hour drawing a day on their own. Beginners welcome.
