Gaia project is a project that brings ecologic consciousness to the attended public. The state of São Paulo in Brazil nowadays is suffering a big hydric crisis and a trash crisis. There is water missing and too many trash that some cities can’t storage it anymore, and burning it cause air pollution. Thinking about it, it’s very important that the community in Bauru develop this consciousness about the planet and start to think about your role in Bauru’s society.

WHY GAIA project

The Project Gaia works with environmental education that has as proposal the transformation of young people towards the environment they are in, developing and adopting the 4 R’s:

About the project

RETHINKING, REDUCING, RECYCLING & REUSING

Develop the conscience and attitude about the environment we live in, giving tho the public attended the chance to acquire knowledge, values, attitudes and interest about the environment. Develop the main points throughout practical activities making these impact becoming part of them everyday life.

Objective & Method

The 4 R’s

RETHINKING: Reflect about its actions and how big is its impact;

REDUCING: Sustainable and conscious consume;

RECYCLING: How to using creativity to reuse the multiple resources REUSING: Transform the useless into useful

➡ Start a “movement” at the community involving the public attend but also their families & friends and the NGO volunteers

➡ Promote the 4 R’s practice ➡ Leave a imaterial and/or material legacy for the

NGO and/ or the community such as a kitchen garden, a flowers garden, the trash treatment, a recycling routine and others.

Goals

➡ # of resources reused ➡ # of material recycled ➡ # practical consciousness activities ➡ # of the public engaged with the project

measurables

➡ Develop at least 1 activity from each “R” ➡ Act with commitment, ethical and pro-activity in all

actions; ➡ Creating a video about the experience of Global

Citizen and send to AIESEC members.

Expected results

➡ Participate in the IPSO before arrival to Brazil, IPS in the first week and specific training throughout the project, as well as official events of AIESEC

➡ Generate weekly reports and a final report about your strategies and actions

➡ Participate in weekly meetings of project planning, recording the activities performed

➡ Paying a R$120 (BRL) fee

NGOs that hosts gaia

➡ Provided by AIESEC in Bauru ➡ A family house or a Brazilian students house —

depending on: 1) Availability 2) Profile

➡ You’ll probably share a room ➡ You must respect eventual house's “rules” and

agreements (such as international phone calls for exemple)

Accommodation

➡ A medium city located in countryside of São Paulo state. Reference for the region.

➡ A university city, with 11 universities — 2 big one ➡ Crazy weather but commonly hot during the day

(about 30ºC) and colder during the night (about 20º but with exceptions about 13º)

➡ Bauru is not a known violent city. We don’t have many problems with this like in the big cities, but we always recommend to not walking alone during the night, for example, just in prevention.

A bit about bauru

➡ We commonly use the public transportation (bus) or walk to go to one place to another

➡ We have: Two shopping mall, one zoo, one paintball zone, one kart track, nightclubs, bars, university parties, botanic garden, rail museum…

➡ You can also travel to near cities: Brotas (waterfalls), Botucatu (waterfalls), Piratininga (hot water park), Jau (shoes shopping mall), São Paulo (capital)…

Living in bauru

➡ Bauru have a low cost of living. You can live a week with an average of R$150,00 (BRL)

➡ Bus ticket: R$3,50 (BRL) ➡ Bottle of water: R$1,50 (BRL) ➡ Mc Donald’s ice cream cone: R$2,50 (BRL) ➡ Lunch in a regular restaurant: R$15,00 (BRL) ➡ University parties: R$5,00 to R$30,00 (BRL)

Weekly schedule

➡ Many nationalities don’t need a visa to come to Brazil if staying less than 90 days

➡ If you need visa, you’ll order for the visa VITEM I ➡ When coming to Bauru, you’d land in São Paulo

International Airport and take a bus (Booklet) ➡ We will pick you up in Bauru’s bus station or

Bauru’s local airport ➡ To leave Bauru, you’ll have to do the same route

(normally trainee takes a cab to the bus station)
