Enclosure Placement

System layout and power cable length are very important when installing Page/Party equipment.Although it varies for different systems, the general guideline is that the total power cable length shouldnot exceed 1 mile (5280 feet) for 115 V ac systems. The total cable length is the most importantconsideration while cable length between the stations is generally not a factor.

MountingThe Model 7325-101 Weatherproof Metallic Enclosure is supplied with pre-drilled cable openings andconduit hubs with top and bottom cap plugs in place to prevent contamination. The Model 703A IndoorEnclosure and the Model 7335-001 Weatherproof Non-metallic Enclosure are not supplied with conduitor cable openings.

Drill or punch these openings using the template supplied before mounting the enclosure. Wheneverpossible, do not enter an enclosure from the top: side or bottom entry helps to prevent moisture fromdripping onto the terminals or PCBAs. The best location for conduit holes is along the bottom of theenclosure near the rear surface. Avoid the top center, as it may interfere with the plug-in amplifierreceptacle.

For specific details including mounting hole dimensions, refer to Figure 1 for the Model 703A IndoorEnclosure, Figure 2 for Model 7335-001 Weatherproof Non-metallic Enclosure, and Figure 3 for theModel 7325-101 Weatherproof Metallic Enclosure. When mounting the enclosure, use caution to avoiddamaging the terminal blocks inside. The suggested mounting height for all station enclosures is54 inches (137 cm) up to the centerline of the enclosure.

Attach the conduit to the enclosure. Feed the wiring through the conduit and bring it into the enclosure.See Figure 4. When wiring the station, follow the wire colors carefully because the colors noted in thefigure correspond to GAI-Tronics 60029 Multi-Party Series cable. The wires must be spade-lugged andconnected carefully and completely to the terminal block. An improper termination may result indiminished station performance.

Figure 4 shows how to mute the local speaker when the stations are completely assembled and pagingoperation occurs. Normally, when the 700 Series station push-to-page button is pressed, the pagingspeaker connected to that station is silenced (muted) to prevent acoustic feedback to the handsetmicrophone. However, while the handset is in use for party line conversations, the paging speaker is“live” to paging calls from other stations.

For cases where the muting feature is not necessary, or may be a disadvantage, use the followinginstructions to disable it:

1. Locate the lugged violate wire attached to TB1-7 (mute) on the terminal block within the enclosure.

2. Transfer the lugged violet wire to TB1-8 (Page L1).

After any muting changes are made, unpack the station amplifier and install.

MaintenanceRegular inspection and a good preventive maintenance program will increase the reliability of yourGAI-Tronics station. The GAI-Tronics Field Service Department can formulate a service contract suitedto your facility’s specific need for preventive maintenance.

In addition, the following procedure can be used to keep Page/Party systems operating effectively.

1. Remove the amplifier from the enclosure.

2. Visually check the interior of the enclosure for signs of liquid contamination such as condensation orprocess liquid.

3. Using the 10440-002 Maintenance Cable, plug the amplifier into the connector in the enclosure.Check and if necessary, adjust the controls of the amplifier to maximize amplifier performance.

4. Reinstall the amplifier in the enclosure. Ensure that all gaskets and hardware are in place.

Ensure that all gaskets on the amplifier’s front panel are in place before mounting the amplifier in theenclosure. Failure to install the gaskets, which also act as spacers, can result in damage to the connectorson the amplifiers and inside the enclosures and can cause system faults.

It may become necessary to re-terminate some or all of the enclosures in a system. If so, strip the wiresback to clean copper, and connect only one wire to each connector, to allow for easier futuretroubleshooting.

Troubleshooting

The following table lists some hints to aid technicians in troubleshooting.

Problem Solution

Feedback occursonly during page.

1. If a speaker is close to the station, try using the muting feature in theamplifier enclosure at the terminal blocks. Connect the violet wire atTB1-8 to TB1-7. See Figure 4.

2. Check line terminations at the line balance assembly. Line balanceassembly connections are critical.

Crosstalk occurs. One or more system cable pairs may be improperly terminated. Visuallyinspect the system cable connections for accidental crossing of the cable pairsor grounds.

GAI-Tronics retainsall intellectual property and other rights in or to the information contained herein, and such information mayonly be used in connection with the operation of your GAI-Tronics product or system. This manual maynot be disclosed in any form, in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, to any third party.

General InformationThis manual applies to the following GAI-Tronics enclosures:

Model Description

703A Indoor Amplifier Enclosure; multi-party, 115 V ac input

7325-101 Weatherproof Aluminum Amplifier Enclosure, multi-party, 115 V ac input

7335-001 Weatherproof Non-metallic Amplifier Enclosure, multi-party; 115 V ac input

The amplifier enclosure is an important component of the 700 Series Page/Party System. Theseenclosures are configured for multi-party systems and can accommodate conversations on up to five partylines simultaneously.

The indoor amplifier enclosure is constructed of fabricated steel and is durable enough for even thetoughest industrial environments. The metallic outdoor enclosure is made of cast aluminum alloy, and thenon-metallic enclosure is made of glass-reinforced polyester. Both outdoor enclosures are extremelyweatherproof and corrosion-resistant.

These enclosures are equipped with terminal strips for connecting system cable. The 701-751 SeriesAmplifiers mate directly with these enclosures.

InstallationCAUTION

Do not install this equipment in hazardous areas or areas other than those indicated on the approvallisting in the Specification section of this manual. Such installation may cause a safety hazard andconsequent injury or property damage. When installing an add-on station, consult the system layout diagrams at the end of this manual. Thesefigures, when used in conjunction with the station installation information and cable layout guide, shouldprovide all the information necessary to install additional Page/Party stations.

Figure 3. Model 7325-101 Weatherproof Aluminum Enclosure Mounting Details
