Y que me despiertan ”Buenos Dı́as Alegrı́a”

INTRODUCTION
THIS book is an experiment I metaphorically call Poetic Simbiogenesis. This metaphor represents the dialogic process between images andwords that crowded in my mind trying to decipher the moment where Ifound myself, between two places and two languages dearly mine.
Sometimes the poems were born around the streets with my cameraor my phone trying to discover my gaze. Others emerged while I walkedbeside the river in my way to buy the bread, or among streets exploringnew places. Also without noticing, while returning home in a bus immersedin my own thoughts just doing nothing, words and images rushed insideurging me to write even if only on my phone.
During the process I also included the outcome of my visual search foraccompanying words that obsessively I felt pushed to write when I wokeup. In that sense the simbiogenesis included not only the visual and verballanguage but also the imaginary and the oneiric. At the final stage it evenincluded the suggestions and critics to my creation.
I wrote most texts in Australia, although the images also included mygoings and comings to and from Mexico, which not always was by the shor-test route. I wrote all poems in my mother tongue but my other languageis in some ways present, underground. To live for so many years in En-glish incite its words to appear when I am not finding the exact word inSpanish and I feel they express exactly my inner feelings. For that reasonit is very important for me to include an annex in English with my ownliteral translations. The translation of the poems was also part of the pro-cess of reflection on the selection of words and phrases that represented thecomplexity of my emotions in Spanish.
In fact this book is the outcome of many dialogues between languages, places, times and means. It makes reference to my metaphors and my emo-tions trying to find my inner place so I can heal myself.

My land has riversRivers that go across and connect usRivers that wet us with life and hope
In them we wash our sorrows and those of ourchildrenIn them we weave our stories
And take a bathTo clean our wounds

Sitting on the floor I play with marbles
They roll on the floor towards my mother’s feet
Along with other women, she washes her stories
The marbles’ noise mixes with their laughter, their silences andtheir whispers. They lower the voice so no one hear themThere, quiet and unknowing I sense their lives, their grief andjoy
In my landThere are clouds, thunders and storms
Rainy daysFull of lonely nostalgiaOr joy for being together
Being warm we sit around a tableWe repeat past stories a thousand times retold
Memories of lives already livedSuffered, enjoyed
Dreams of hope that is not lost
Yes, in those days we had to hide whenever there were gunshots. We didn’t know who was coming. They could be Vi-llistas or Maderistas. It didn’t matter. They entered the sameand robbed and if you were not hidden they could take youand force you
In the basement we stayed quiet almost without breathingUntil the stillness and the silence returned

FEMALE PRAYER / 71
.
My land has wordsWords many times repeatedWords harshly silenced
Words that become cries of fury or joySung words and words swallowed
In the silence of the imposed shame
Words that carry mixed emotionsHardly expressedAnd that only women
Guess with no words
In my memory I also hear sweet words that cradle me whenI’m about to fall asleep
And which awaken me “good morning joyfulness”
Wise words that become sayings and guide us through life ormake us burst out laughing when scrambled in our memorybecome jokesJokes that bond in laughs and turn into crying
In my land dreams growDreams that communicateTerrorize or give relief
Dreams that we tell or we prefer to hide
Dreams that wise women understandBut even if they know not always tell
Dreams that teach us how to dream awakeAnd that for being so real
Do not feel as dreams.
Yesterday I dreamed I was dreaming and in dreams theyguided me to a ghost town.

I heard their voices, felt their presence
I knew they were those who had walked the same streets andwarned me not to stumbleWhen I awake I knew that dead or alive they feed mydreaming and accompany my destiny
In my landThe dead ones live
They laugh with our laughterAnd cry with our tears
But mostly they danceDance and rejoice
To the rhythm of the dayThe monthThe year
DanceWith the music of the clash of their bonesAnd with the flickering of the candles of their shrines
They are there when we need themThey visit usScare usHeal us
Mom, tell my grandma that I dreamed with your granny. Shesaid that she has to say goodbye now because she is going. Shehas to be born in another life
I didn’t know how to contain my tearsShe waited for me to die and waited for me to live again

FEMALE PRAYER / 73
.
In my land I left my footsteps
Now they are walked memories through where the sap ofmy veins flows
In them the traces of my grandmothers and their grandmothers blend
In them the lives of aunts, sisters and friends intersect
I walk until I reach the river. I wet my feet so that they growlong roots and reach the distant paths of my land.
So, I can continue walking
In my landThere are also non-walked pathsUn-walked steps
That daughters and granddaughtersWill walk holding hands
There are also hidden routesRoutes that only women know
In those our shadows fell
And without shame
We continue walkingUntil we find new energy
In there our feet hurtHeavy from the steps of other lands

Spanish versionEach foldEach crackEach spot
Reminds us our life
Whether cryingWhether laughingOr from tiredness
Every minuteEvery hourEvery day
IndeliblyIt remains written
We judge themTry to delete themWant to correct them
Without even thinkingThey are so much who we are
Through themWe identify usWe distinguish us

And in themWe recognise usOthers recognise us
We love usOthers love us
We hate usOthers hate us
Like it or not
In them we are
And hope
In them to continue being.

Spanish version. .
Walking through lifeIt’s not easy
We search roadsNot knowing they don’t existAnd then
We construct themWe chase them
And believeThey will drive usTo some placeWe feel safe not knowing
Every routeEvery step
It’s a challenge
And while walkingMany times we stumble
Not realisingThey are just shadows
Shadows that confuse usShadows that trick usShadows that frighten us

Spanish version.
Where it beginsAnd where it endsSeems to me a mystery
At timesI feel almostI can touch it
Behind the WindowsOn top of buildingsEven sometimes captured
Other timesI feel it faraway
Unreachable
And the more distantThe more enormousI like it most
It’s thenWhen I own itIt’s thenWhen I feel near
Close to the firmamentI know

Close to the soilI’ve touched
Crossed overStumbled
BecauseHere and there
Under itWe live together
Under itWe feel together
We breatheWe suffocateWe shareWe laugh
Because. . .Here and there
We are shelteredBy the same sky.

Spanish versionWhere we are goingStubbornlyWe walk through roads
We are fascinatedBy their mystery
They trap usWithout noticing
The darkest they areThe more we remain
ThinkingWishingDreaming
We’ll soon arrive
WilfullyWe continue walkingBelievingIt’s just a stretch
We cling to themMoving further
Enjoying the challengeTasting the fear

We don’t stopUntil we can’t move
Darkness defeats usWe give upWe fall down
Forceless
And thereIn that same placeIn that same momentDefeated
We turn aroundAnd in an instantWe glimpseThe exit

Spanish version.
Year after yearI travel the same paths
Year after yearI follow my footstepsTirelessly walked
Time passesAnd the lightAnd shadowsChange
They bring new sensationsNew feelingsNew emotionsNew fears
Walking the same pathsI get fascinated
With the newWith the beautifulWith the familiarAnd the unknown

And following my footstepsI discoverThat although similarThey never are the same
And following my footstepsI found myself in peaceAlive
Awaiting the next step.
