PLEASE HELP!!! Even though Masses are cancelled for the next few weeks, the
parish still has on-going expenses that do not go away.
No weekly Offertory will create great hardship for our Parish
over the next few weeks. We still have to pay for salaries,
heat, electricity, etc.
We are keeping our church buildings open every day so that you
may still privately worship. Please help us to continue our services to you.
If you could mail in your donation to us that would be a huge help.
(Our Lady of Grace Parish, 28 Tarbell Street, Pepperell, MA 01463)
Or, now might be the time to sign up for Online Giving. Here is the link for that
https://www.myowngiving.com/default.aspx?cid=603
Normally, in our Offertory Collections, we receive between $3,500 and $4,500 weekly. If we
cannot celebrate Masses for the next 4 weeks, we will lose between $14,000 and $18,000.
If you have any questions, please contact Debbie at 978-433-5737 or
Please do what you can. Thank you! And stay healthy!

Sunday Reading Reflection Hello good people. It is
the case that when the
suffering of the cross is
finished the glory of the
resurrection is
revealed! And it is
undoubtedly the case that after the
suffering of the current coronavirus
and all its side effects, we will
experience a coming together again
in Church that will be so beautiful
and fantastic that it will absolutely
blow us away. It is the same
difference between Christ’s bitter
passion and the glory of Easter
morn. It is the same difference
between sin and forgiveness. It is
the same difference between hate
and love. It is the same difference
between excommunication and
communion; isolation and friend-
ship; darkness and light.
When we can safely return to
communion with each other I know,
beyond a shadow of a doubt, that
we will be rejoicing.
Right now Christ’s isolation on the
cross is replaced with his coming
together in glory with his friends at
Easter.
It was the case that Christ’s passion
never separated him either from
God the Father’s love nor his
mother’s.
He needed his mother’s embrace
on the cross and while he was
physically unable, stuck, prevented
from going to her, isolated, he did
go out spiritually. We are doing the
same in our exile from each other.
We are praying for each other.
Nothing can stop love. Christ
proves this on the cross.
Good news of love in the midst of
the darkness is too much to
relay. One little business I know is
still paying its employees, risking
financial reversal. The owner, in
his judgement, is not willing to risk
the short term problems associated
with red tape and delays. His
workers have real lives like, a baby
on the way, a dependent parent at
the sunset of life, a spouse who is
not eligible for any assistance from
anywhere who has employment
that fell through the cracks. He is
giving them personally from the
profits of the business while he
can. Some would say this is
desperate or foolish but others
have gone the other way and found
things to not be as they had hoped
in terms of benefits being quick or
easy to obtain. Who knows. The
point is this, people are willing to
sacrifice for each other. People are
treating each other like people.
There is kindness in the midst of
the darkness.
There is a strong group of young
adults in the area who have
spontaneously been drawing close
to each other in the faith. This is a
miraculous surprise. We are
witnessing lots of prayer. People
are reporting to me that they are
praying the rosary and the Divine
Mercy Chaplet like crazy. There are
people who are spending time
calling each other. There are many
who have called to say how much
they miss going to Church and miss
each other at Church. I have been
doing virtual Confirmation
interviews and getting a lot of
youth really interested in how they
might become more active after
they complete their sacraments of
initiation. A young man came to
ask me how to become a priest.
Pray for him.
The Office of Tenebrae is a thing
people have become interested in
and such things as the Angelus, the
Liturgy of the Hours, spiritual
direction, eucharistic processions,
interreligious and ecumenical
affairs, and the right use of blessed
candles in the home.
There is the theme of “alone” in all
the readings.
What is revealed is that there is no
such thing. There is no
‘alone.’ There is only the feeling or
experience of ‘alone.’ We might be
more separated physically like we
are with the social distancing but
we are spiritually close. From the
spiritual perspective, we are never
separated from God. To be totally
separated from God is impossi-
ble. He is everywhere. He is being
itself. We know that if we were
separated from him we would
simply not exist and neither would
God, for it would mean he stopped
loving and if he did that he would
not be God. The truth is that when
we, in our bodies, experience the
feeling of ‘alone,’ it causes our
spiritual yearnings to come more to
the fore.
We are experiencing that now. We
have a heightened awareness of
spiritual things now. We long for
Heaven, Church, truth. We know
that this world is passing away and
is temporary. This is good to know
because it is true.
The reason why we can know that
this will all end well is because,
however it goes, whether it gets
worse before it gets better, it
doesn’t matter. The worse it gets
the better it gets anyway. With
Christ nothing can harm us. Our
own end and the end of the world
(whether that be tomorrow or next
century) is ever closer. That will be
the last battle, the final trial, and
like Christ’s on the cross will feel
like ‘alone’ and being abandoned,
but it will end in the ultimate and
permanent victory. Christ in the
garden said let this cup pass and
we too ask for relief in the midst of
trials but we also say with Christ,
“but not my will but yours” We cry
out with Christ, “My God, my God
why have you forsaken me?” But
we know that beautiful feeling of
abandonment is just the precursor
to joy beyond all telling. It is the
physical and the spiritual beginning
to come together in a new and
perfect way.
I can’t wait to see you all
again. With Christ we are and will
do bravely. We will come together
in this world and if not, by God’s
mercy, in the life of the world to
come, forever and ever. Amen.
In Christ,
Fr. Jeremy St. Martin
