G Major Piano Composition Your task is to create an original piece in the key of G Major/position. Your composition must be at least 8 measures long, and meet at least the “Basic” requirements listed below. If you need inspiration, look through the songs between pages 30-41 in the Red Alfred book for ideas. ALL COMPOSITIONS MUST BE PLAYABLE BY THEIR COMPOSERS! Basic: Time signature of 4/4 Melody begins and ends on G Harmony begins and ends with G chord Melody contains at least one half note, quarter note, whole note, and quarter rest Melody moves only by step Melody in Right hand and chords in Left Hand Intermediate (All of “Basic” requirements plus): Time signature of 4/4 or 3/4 Melody contains dotted half notes Melody moves by steps and skips Chords in Right hand and melody in Left Hand Harmony contains both G and D7 chords Advanced (All of “Basic” and “Intermediate” requirements plus): Time signature of 4/4, 3/4, or 6/8 Melody contains eighth notes and rests Melody moves by steps, skips, and leaps Chordal accompaniment is more than whole note block chords Harmony contains G, C, and D7 chords Once you have composed and practiced your piece, trade compositions with another student and play through their piece.
