Karen and Norm Peters

BGauctions

When Norm Peters was given a small box of coins in 1949 for his 9th birthday, he was destined to become a life long numismatist.

After many years of assembling sets of U.S. and Canadian decimal coins, he discovered the coins of Colonial U.S.A. along with the many coppers issued by several individual states.

Within a couple of years, Norm became aware of the several series of tokens of the 1837 U.S. Hard Times era and the many tokens used during the Civil War years.

About 1980 Norm became aware of the many copper tokens used by Canada in the Pre-Confederation era. His interest soon turned to these very interesting pieces of Canadian History. This was the beginning of the collection of “Breton Tokens” offered here.

Norm and Karen have decided it is time to begin parting with some of his collections so that others may enjoy adding some of his tokens to their own collections. This also allows them more time to enjoy their Florida winter home and perhaps a few more travel adventures.

We hope you find as much enjoyment from these treasures as Norm did.

BoWman Borderline TokensFred Bowman, a Canadian numismatic icon, prepared a list

partly due to the constant battle over which tokens were Canadian, which circulated in Canada. He put 28 tokens on his Borderline Tokens list which has been a source of pleasure to numismatists. The most famous of these the Bon Pour Deux Sous of which 3 are known, 2 in institution collections. Many are rare, Bowman 25 has yet to be definitively identified. Tokens such as the Staffordshire 1814 Commerce half penny have been candidates.
