‘‘GAIA’ free – form sculptureGAIA’ free – form sculpture The ‘GAIA’ mythology always fascinates me so when I had to create a free –

form sculpture for my University project. The aimed of the was to create a sculpture made from found and old objects i.e. old cables, rusted nails, driftwood etc.

I decided to interpret the ‘Free Form’ sculpture by adopting the idea of ‘GAIA’.

With the influence of the movie called ‘Final Fantasy’, I used recycled old computer printer cables and creating an abstracted free - form of a woman which represents the ‘GAIA’.

Here, ‘GAIA’ took another form, where the living organism given birth to a new technology. The computer printer cables represents the newly evolved organisms. In order to achieve the organic feel of fluid cascading through from the top to the bottom I used wall paper paste to convey an image of organic fluid.

This sculpture was also influence by the Matrix movie where Neo was preserved on the amniotic fluid.
