ULI TRIANGLE ANNUAL REPORT FY2017

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR | 3

I am proud to have served as your Chair this past fiscal year. The state of our district council is strong and we continue to grow by adding more opportunities for member engagement, education and impact.

I am pleased to share some highlights from FY17:

NEW STRATEGIC PLAN COMPLETED FOR IMPLEMENTATION IN FY18 – FY20 Over the past fiscal year, the Triangle’s Management, Advisory and Governance Committee discussed pressing issues in our region along with ULI Global’s strategic priorities to develop a three-year strategic plan for our district council. Increased member engagement opportunities and more community impact efforts are key priorities.

WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP INITIATIVE (WLI) ADDS MENTORSHIP PROGRAM ULI Triangle’s WLI piloted a small-group mentorship program for female members in our district council. The program matches one experienced member with a young leader and a graduate- level student member. Nine three-person groups met during the year to build relationships and professional competence. Feedback on the program was very positive and the second year has just gotten underway.

ULI TRIANGLE RETURNS TO FAYETTEVILLE, NC FOR SECOND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE PANEL (TAP) Pleased with the results of their first TAP in FY15, Fayetteville asked back ULI Triangle members to help them think through the best opportunities to connect their Haymount and downtown business districts to a proposed new Civil War History Center.

NEW LEADERS JOIN MANAGEMENT COMMITTEEULI Triangle thanks the following members for their leadership as committee chairs last year and welcomes new members in leadership roles: THANK YOU! WELCOME!Sponsorship Keith Burns, Nexsen Pruet Carman Liuzzo, HighwoodsMembership Dwight Bassett, Town of Chapel Hill Jane Brasier, Branch CivilCommunications Toby Coleman, Smith Anderson Christine McDonald, JDavisYLG Laura Quinn, Quinn Partners Jed Byrne, HighwoodsWLI Jamie Schwedler, Parker Poe Laura Quinn, Quinn Partners

These new members will join the following members of the Management Committee:• Wayne Maiorano, Chair of Mission Advancement and Vice-Chair• Jon Wilson, Governance Chair• T.J. Barringer, Treasurer• Stewart Patch, Chair of Roundtables

And now in FY18, we have several initiatives and exciting programs under way:

CREATIVE PLACEMAKING (CPM) ULI Triangle was pleased to have received a grant from ULI and the Kresge Foundation to host a Creative Placemaking Advisory Workshop focused on our region’s future transit infrastructure investments. Nine experts in transit-oriented development (TOD) and creative placemaking spent three days in August 2017 touring four future transit sites and discussing opportunities for CPM and TOD at each. A sold-out crowd attended the panel presentation on August 4 and work is continuing with the core group of stakeholders.

PILOTING UNDERGRADUATE OUTREACH Building on the successful engagement of graduate students in real estate, WLI has launched an undergraduate engagement effort to educate and interest more female business students in real estate development and related fields. WLI has held one panel targeted at undergrads and plans several career shadow days during the year. Their goal is to entice those bright young minds to join us in community building.

I hope you’ll take some time to review this report and see all the positive impact your sponsorship is making in our community. We thank you deeply for supporting the ULI mission and for your active participation in our district council. I am very honored to serve as your Chair and look forward to my second year. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you wish to get more engaged or have any questions.
