Stability Ferguson Wellman was founded in 1975. Excluding retirement, there has been no attrition
on our investment team for more than 20 years and close to 70 percent of our employees are
shareholders in the company. The longevity and continuity of our firm benefits our clients in terms of
their current needs, long-term investment goals and transitions to future generations.
Confidentiality We understand and respect the importance of client confidentiality. We never
disclose our clients’ names to anyone unless they have requested to be identified or permission has been
granted. We have established processes and protocols to ensure confidentiality is in place at all times.
Trust Being a privately held firm ensures that strategic decisions about our business are made in the
best interest of our clients. By working with third party custodians, we maintain a firewall that prevents
any potential conflict of interest.
Expertise As a 100 percent employee-owned firm, we are able to attract and retain the best
professionals in the industry. Our investment team consists of portfolio managers and analysts who
possess an average of more than 20 years of experience. Eight of our professionals have their Chartered
Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and nine have their MBAs.
Customization After establishing each client’s investment guidelines, we select individual securities
to create customized portfolios. Each portfolio is designed to manage assets for tax efficiency and
match clients’ risk tolerance. We strategically allocate assets, identify tactical shifts and forecast
economic trends and themes to optimize investment opportunities for our clients.
Control We manage all aspects of client portfolios in-house. Our clients enjoy direct access to the
professionals who make investment decisions on their behalf, providing our clients greater understanding
of, and control over, their portfolios.
Accessibility To provide optimal service and personalization, we seek to maintain a client-to-
employee ratio of 13-to-1. This allows clients to quickly and easily contact the people who work on
their investments. Clients get the information and answers they need – and in the manner they prefer,
whether in person, by phone or online.
Flexibility We work directly with our clients’ other professional advisors. If desired, we also can
introduce our clients to the accountants, estate attorneys, private bankers and insurance professionals
we trust and partner with. Choosing Ferguson Wellman gives clients the flexibility to create or
maintain their ideal professional team.
Reputation We are honored that nearly two thirds of our new business comes from client and
professional referrals and more than one third of our non-institutional clients are multi-generational
