More than 20,000 visitors attended FIFDH screenings, which sought to highlight human rights violations around the globe by engaging filmmakers, NGOs, and experts. FHR Forum attended several FIFDH screenings and seeks to highlight two films shown: Zhanaozen: The Unknown Tragedy and The Price of Sex. The Unknown Tragedy is a film documenting an eight month strike by oil workers in the town of Zhanaozen in 2011. The event marked a noticeable worsening of the human rights situation with journalists and activists facing harassment, detention, and assassination attempts. The film exemplifies the concept of a “resource curse”, with western nations largely ignoring these developments. Europe. The film traces these women’s journeys across the Middle East and Western Europe, and also includes interviews from clients, political figures, and NGO workers. Leaders of anti- trafficking initiatives encouraged the FIFDH audience to get involved . Civil Society Networking FHR Forum participated in this year’s Connexion Career Forum, hosted by the Graduate Institute of Geneva (IHEID). The event featured over 80 NGOs, international organizations and think tanks working in coordination with 600 students from across the globe to form new and lasting partnerships. CAP Project Launch FHR Forum has begun to coordinate the Communications Assistance Project (CAP) with NGOs on-the- ground in developing and conflict- affected states. Thus far, FHR Forum has made connections with groups working in education in Kazakhstan, Ukraine, and Lebanon. With support from these groups, FHR Forum hopes to have educational projects underway for as many as 100 students per country as early as May 2014. In this way, students will gain valuable knowledge in the English language, Information Technologies, and human rights. By providing students with these skills, FHR Forum hopes to bring underserved populations into the dialogue process to shape and enforce global human rights standards. Human Rights in Film The International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights (FIFDH) recently concluded its 12th edition. More than 20,000 visitors attended FIFDH screenings, which sought to highlight human rights violations around the globe by engaging filmmakers, NGOs, and experts. FHR Forum attended several FIFDH screenings and seeks to highlight two films shown: Zhanaozen: The Unknown Tragedy and The Price of Sex.

The Unknown Tragedy is a film documenting an eight month strike by oil workers in the town of Zhanaozen in 2011.
