Future Tenses
Be going to…../ be + verb-ing…
• We use ‘be going to’ / ‘be + verb-ing’ when we have a plan for the future.
• I am going to do some Christmas shopping this week-end.
• I am doing some Christmas shopping this weekend
• She is going to go skiing on Saturday.• She is skiing on Saturday.
Will
• We use ‘will’ when we have no plan, or we haven’t thought about the question.
• Q: What are your plans for this week-end?
• A: I don’t have any plans. Maybe I’ll meet my friends, or maybe I’ll just stay at home.
Predictions
• We use will to make predictions when we have no information; just a feel-ing.
• I think Manchester United will beat Arsenal in the football match.
• I think my son will be the president of Korea when he is older!
Predictions
• We use ‘be going to’ to make predictions when we have some information or a good reason for our opinion.
• I think Manchester United are going to win the game, because Arsenal have a lot of injured play-ers.
• I think my son is going to be a mechanic ( 자동차 정비사 ) when he is older, because he is always play-ing with cars.
