“Everybody has something to bring to Reuben’s Retreat”
....................................................................................
..
Reuben’s Retreat was founded in August 2012 in memory of Reuben Michael Graham, who passed away aged 23 months due to a rare and aggressive brain tumour.
The Graham family had set off on holiday to Devon as a family of 4, yet just 3 returned home, their world shattered. With his Mummy Nicola and Dad Mike both working in (and met through!) the travel industry, Reuben (and big brother Isaac, then age 4) had been blessed to go on many adventures and holidays before he died.
Desperate to ensure Reuben’s life had not been in vain yet not able to donate his organs to save others,
Reuben’s Retreat - a place to relax, recharge, remember and rebuildA charity in memory of a beautiful little boy . . .
Nicola founded ‘Reuben’s Retreat’ to help other families facing the most challenging and heart-breaking times, a beautiful legacy for Reuben that would enable seriously poorly children and their loved ones the chance to spend time together through short breaks and create cherished, lifelong memories.
Soon after Nicola became aware of the distinct lack of support that is available for families like hers who have
lost a child, and so the vision for Reuben’s Retreat grew.
5 years on, it is our primary goal to
create a sanctuary that will be a home-from-home for families coping with the serious illness of a child, providing respite
breaks and the chance to have FUN.
....................................................................................
..
We already provide support, counselling and well-being for children with life-limiting or life-threatening illnesses and their families, and for parents and siblings who have lost a precious child, brother or sister.
Our activities, which are designed for individuals and for families to enjoy together, range from music therapy to seasonal celebrations, pamper time to peer support groups and coffee mornings. We do this from our facilities in Glossop (Derbyshire) and Ashton-under-lyne (Greater Manchester).
Our VisionTo renovate our countryside Retreat in Glossop which will in turn enable us to support many more children and families.
Our MissionTo relieve the distress of families who have suffered the bereavement of a child or have a child with a life-limiting illness or disability.
THANK YOU! !“There are over 185,000 registered charities in the UK and it means a lot to us for you to choose Reuben’s Retreat. Thank you so very much.
Here at Reuben’s, we promise to invest and spend every penny wisely. We are proud to have your support and thank you for
being a part of #reubensjourney“
Forever grateful,
NicolaReuben’s Mummy & Founder
Why we are neededThere are more than 49,000 children in
the UK with a life-threatening illness or
disability. In 2015 (the most recent data
available) 10,133 babies, children and young
people died - that’s the equivalent of 28
children lost, every single day.
Reuben’s Retreat was born from one families
devastating loss to help other families facing
the most challenging of times.
Who we helpReuben’s Retreat supports 3 core groups of beneficiaries and our programmes are designed to support them as individuals and/or a family basis:
Children with a life-limiting or life-threatening i l lness or disability
Parents and siblings of children with a life-limiting or life-threatening illness or disability
Parents and siblings of a child that has died
Though we are based in the North West of England, we support
families from across the UK and as of December 2017, we are
proud to have helped 524 children & adults from 267 families.
