Define the Application
• What is it used for?
• What is it supposed to do?

• What are the metrics used for this application?
• Any previous similar application existing?
Develop Models
• User’s conceptual model
• Designer’s model
• Programmer’s model
Define the Information Flow• Define the navigational elements-
user perspective• Diagram the organization of the
information-can use Visio• Create a prototype-you are
designing the relationships of the objects in designer’s model
• Create wireframes-addresses layout not aesthetics
• Create mockups• Design for functional
requirements, business requirements, and user requirements
Create A Design Document

Write the Spec
• Cover everything with lots of screen shots and concise text
• Edit and rewrite
• After completion and acceptance, start work !
Technical Specs
• Basically the same process but they deal with the hardware, software, access requirements, etc.
Creative Specs and Web Navigation
• Creative is the look and feel of the website
• Web navigation is how the user maneuvers through the website.
• These may be included in the functional specs – this is dependent upon the company in which you work.
