Assessment Scenario

You work for the manager of a company restaurant named ‘Tasty Bites’ that provides snacks and meals to the company’s workforce. Your manager has asked you to produce a poster to help promote this week’s special dish, which is fish & chips.

Your Manager has supplied some text and images for the poster, but it needs some more information to complete it.

Part A: you have 45 minutes to complete this section.

Activity 1: Create a folder for your work. Suggested time: 5 minutes Marks available: 41a Create a folder in your hard disk work area. Give the folder a suitable name.

You must save all your work into this folder.

Activity 2: Receive email. Suggested time: 20 minutes Marks available: 16Your manager has sent you an email.

2a Open the email with the subject ‘Tasty Bites’.

2b Save the two files attached to this email to your work folder.

2c Copy the text of the email into a new file.

2d One of the emails in your inbox is spam. Delete this email.

2e Create a rule to automatically send any email with the same subject to the junk email folder.

2f Produce screen shots showing:

1. the emails in your inbox

2. the rule you have created

3. your folder with the files it contains.

Activity 3: Find information from the internet.Suggested time: 20 minutes Marks available: 11Your manager has asked you to find some typical food values for a fish & chips meal.

3a Find the food value in calories and the fat content in grams for each ingredient of a typical fish and chips meal. The ingredients are:

battered fried fish chips peas tartare sauce.

3b Copy the information, the search words you use to find it and the addresses of the web pages on which you find the information into a new file. You will need this information in Part B.

Part B: you have 1¾ hours to complete this section. You must not attempt to use email or the Internet in this section.

Activity 4: Create a poster.Suggested time: 45 minutes Marks available: 33Your manager has asked you to produce a poster to be displayed in the restaurant. The poster must:

inform people about the food values of a fish & chips meal help to sell the meal.

Your manager wants the poster to: be on one A4 page use all the text supplied in the email display both the images in the files that were attached to the email use labels, or some other means, to identify each of the main ingredients in the image of the fish and chips meal. The labels must also show the food values found in Activity 3.

Your poster should also: include a table with at least three columns and three rows, used for an appropriate purpose be fit for purpose – as a poster, it should draw people’s attention be easy to read be free of errors.

4a Create the poster. You should save three versions of your poster file that clearly show how you developed the final poster from the original text. Check the final version of the poster for errors.

4b Add a footer to each version of the poster containing your name and candidate number.

Activity 5: Work on some sales information. Suggested time: 45 minutes Marks available: 24The file restaurant meals sales.txt contains information about the sales of meals in the company restaurant over several months. During this time the company has taken on more staff.

Your manager has asked you to produce a chart that shows: the sales of each type of meal and the total sales of all meals

for each month from Jan to Jul.

5a Display the information in restaurant meals sales.txt in a suitable application.

5b Make the titles stand out from the other information. Make sure that all the information can be read.

5c Sort the information in alphabetical order of meal type.

5d Produce the required chart.

Your manager also wants you to estimate what the total meals sales will be in Dec, assuming the current sales trends continue.

5e Using the Jan to Jul sales data, estimate the number of meals that the restaurant can expect to sell in Dec. It must be clear from your work how the estimated value was produced.
