New Dean at Ely Cathedral

Our latest church primary

school has opened

Ely Foodbank

Christmas gifts .

Children and schools have recently been part of some fantastic events at Ely Cathedral, as you can see from the

pictures.

In September, some 300 children, families and friends attended the first ever Messy Cathedral.

Together they celebrated and explored the themes of harvest and creation.

The cathedral was full of craft and activity zones. Children took part in Godly Play,

model and glider making, light catcher painting, hand bell ringing and turning the handle on an apple press to squeeze fresh juice for one another. There were puppets, gingerbread men to decorate and eat, and generally lots of messy painting and sticking areas.

The whole event was drawn to a close, after an enormous picnic lunch, in an act of Messy worship.

And, in October, the cathedral hosted special days for church schools. Over a four day period some 58 schools and 2,400 primary pupils joined in a journey to the time of Henry VIII, the Dissolution of the Monasteries and the beginnings of the Church of England.

The children were captivated by history come to life, by being able to take part – in costumes, and with props. The herbalist and the King’s messenger in particular caught everyone’s attention. Treason was most definitely in the air!
