DAY TO DAY ITINERARY 7th September -Thursday Arrival into Sydney and group meets Depart Sydney on Emirates at 1830 8th September -Friday – Arrive Lisbon at 1235 Welcome to magical Lisbon, one of the oldest cities in Europe, founded in the 12th century. Transfer to your hotel; remainder of the day is at leisure or rest. 09th September -Saturday - Lisbon, Portugal Today our group will do a private tour and then meet for tonight's Welcome Drink with our Tour Manager, followed by a Welcome Dinner with your fellow travellers (depending on our numbers the entire group will be a max of 22 guests, so if we have 18 pax, then the max of additional guests could be only 4. If we have 22 guests, then the group is ours entirely. Overnight: Lisbon Meals: Dinner 10th September -Sunday - Lisbon City Tour, Sintra Tour Today's tour of Lisbon highlights the variety of heritage and styles that makes this one of Europe's most beautiful capitals. Begin with a view of the treasured 16th century Belem Tower and then tour the Jeronimos Monastery; this amazing structure is considered the most prominent achievement of the Manueline style of architecture (Portuguese late-Gothic). In 1983, UNESCO designated this monastery as a World Heritage Site, that today serves as a reminder of Portugal's wealth and power during the Age of Discovery. Then, to the dramatic Monument of Discoveries, built in honor of Henry the Navigator, instrumental in the success of Portuguese explorations during the 15th century. Standing over 171 feet tall, the monument, shaped like a ship's prow, stands majestically at the marina in Belem, starting point for many of Portugal's explorers and where Vasco da Gama embarked on his voyage to India. Continue on a walk along the winding cobblestone streets of Alfama, the old Fisherman's Quarter, nestled between the grand castle and the River Tagus. After lunch on your own, drive along to quaint Sintra, the Glorious Eden of Lord Byron, and ancient summer retreat of the royal court. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the city is highlighted by lavish romantic castles and stunning monuments. Visit the magnificent 18th century Palacio de Queluz and its graceful gardens, one of the last Rococo buildings to be designed in Europe and former summer residence to the royal family. DAY TO DAY ITINERARY 11th September Monday - Travel to Tavira, Flamenco Lesson Depart Lisbon this morning. See the stunning views of the river and beaches as you get closer to Tavira, a unique Algarve fishing town, once a main trading port during the 16th to 18th centuries. This elegant town has managed to hold on to its traditions and character over the centuries. Stop for lunch together. After crossing the border into Spain, stop for a Flamenco lesson to acquaint yourself with this passionate dance, along with its history and artistry. Continue to your hotel in Seville, with the Balance of the day is at leisure Overnight: Seville Meals: Breakfast, Lunch 12th September Tuesday - Seville Cathedral, Bull Farm Experience Morning visit to the Cathedral, one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in the world. Built on the site of the former great Mosque, its original minaret, the Giralda Bell Tower, still stands. Admire the beautiful Plaza de España and the fragrant gardens of Maria Luisa Park by the Guadalquivir River. Explore the narrow streets and the many beautiful plazas of the quaint old Santa Cruz Quarter. Lunch on your own in the bustling downtown area. Travel to Cortijo La Calera, a sprawling farm where a typical Andalucian farmhouse stands along with a bullring. You'll be warmly welcomed to the farm with beverages and fresh pastries. Feel the close contact with nature and see the area where bulls are being bred. A matador takes you into the fields by cart to watch the bulls up close, and explain Spain's fascination with bullfighting. At the end of the visit, a special bullfighting demonstration will be held for you at the farm's bullring. Tonight, after dinner traditional Flamenco Show, along with drinks, featuring some of Seville's leading artists, performing their emotional songs. Flamenco, along with the bullfight, is a popular symbol of Spain. This evening, enjoy a drink and traditional Flamenco show. As performed by some of Seville's leading Flamenco artists, enjoy routines based on the cantejondo or "deep song," which describes the performer´s profound emotions in ancient poetic phrases. Although the development of Flamenco has centered principally in the region of Andalucia, it has come to embrace many of the folk traditions of the northern provinces. As a result, it has become, along with the bullfight, a popular symbol of Spain. Ronda is considered the birthplace of modern bullfighting which began in the 18th century as a training facility for developing horsemanship. Here, you can see the historic stables and museum, part of this complex along with displays of famous Matadors. During the reign of the Moors, this imposing hilltop fortress was the summer residence of the Royal Family. Walk along the lanes of the serene Generalife Gardens with its beautifully designed courtyards, waterfalls and ponds.* In the evening, walk through the old Albayzin district and dine at one of the charming restaurants with magnificent views overlooking the Alhambra Overnight: Granada Meals: Breakfast, Dinner 15th September Friday - Ubeda Olive Oil Center Head today towards Madrid. Along the route, explore the lovely historical hilltop town of Ubeda, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, you will see some of the best-preserved examples of Spanish Renaissance architecture in Spain. Its old town houses a splendid legacy of monuments made up of churches, palaces and aristocratic houses including the sacred chapel of El Salvador and the Santa Maria Church, circled by white-washed houses. Surrounded by Europe's largest olive tree plantation, Ubeda today is a major center of olive oil export in Spain. At a regional olive oil production center, hear about the gastronomy of olive oil and the technical aspects for producing the oil. DAY TO DAY ITINERARY 17th September Sunday - Toledo City Tour Today journey to Toledo, a "Museum City" of great artistic beauty. Former capital of Spain and one of the oldest cities in Europe, Toledo has magnificent examples of architecture from different periods, making it one of the leading artistic cities of the country. In Toledo visit the most famous monuments, such as St. Tome Church, which houses El Greco's "The Burial of Count Orgaz" and the Santa Maria la Blanca Synagogue. Admire its famous handcrafted work, the "Damasquinado." Enjoy lunch together in Toledo before returning to Madrid in the later afternoon. Balance of the day is at leisure Overnight: Madrid Meals: Breakfast, Lunch 18th September Monday - Travel to Barcelona, Montjuic Visit Depart Madrid by train to sensational Barcelona. Upon arrival, time to freshen up before the afternoon activities in Spain's second most important city. Begin with a visit to the Montjuic recreational area that houses the National Palace originally built as the central pavilion for the 1929 International Exhibition. Montjuic is home to the Olympic complex, a number of sports facilities built for the 1992 Olympics and at its center is the impressive Olympic Stadium. The most unforgettable symbol of Barcelona is Gaudi's masterpiece, La SagradaFamilia, a colossal church that is legendary and still unfinished, although it was started in 1882.
