Mission of Allegro Foundation
Allegro Foundation is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization that combines movement instruction with educational & medical expertise, creating new techniques to teach children with disabilities and enhance their quality of life. The children we serve are individuals with intellectual disabilities, Down syndrome, Autism, orthopedic challenges (wheelchairs and walkers), spina bifida, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, visual and hearing impairments, learning disabilities, children at risk, and children with cancer. Allegro does not discriminate against any type of disability- all are welcome in our classes!
Facts
There are more than 15,000 children with disabilities in the Charlotte area.
Allegro currently serves over 700 children with disabilities annually.
Allegro currently teaches classes at 25 locations throughout Charlotte.
All Allegro classes are FREE to the children and their families.
Allegro does not discriminate against certain types of disabilities - we accept children
with all disabilities into our programs. Allegro has over 700 volunteers assisting in its programs.
With YOUR HELP, Allegro has the potential to serve 1,200 children per week.
Accomplishments
Allegro Foundation operates in both North and South Carolina through partnerships with public schools, hospitals, community outreach sites, local Parks and Rec Services, and various summer camps! Allegro made history as the first organization for children with disabilities to ever perform at The White House in our nation's history. This momentous event transformed public perception of Allegro throughout our state, as well as nationally and internationally. Allegro Foundation...a Champion for Children with Disabilities is Charlotte’s “best kept secret”! Allegro has been an underdog and is emerging nationally, with international visibility. Allegro has partnered with Ukrainian, Hungarian, Russian, and Egyptian governments as well as the State Department, teaching its unique philosophies on working with children with disabilities. (Allegro does NOT fund international travel!) It has been a great honor for Allegro to be chosen to present at the International Disabilities Conference/VSA, founded by Jean Kennedy Smith (sister of the late President, John F. Kennedy). Allegro's work continues to be recognized nationally and internationally as one of the leaders in the disabilities field.
