The target audience includes children from the ages of 2–10. In order to make the reading experience more dynamic, the text was integrated into the illustrations in a manner that mimics the musicality of the poetry. The illustrations include whimsical creatures that would be intriguing for young readers, in a variety of different environments. My objective was to create a mesmerizing children’s book, generating all of the content— the concept, the words, and the illustrations—and ensuring that all of the elements work together in a dynamic way. Integrating the words and images in a whimsical style, with silly creature names, and bold illustrations, helped to make the whole much more than the sum of its parts. The illustration technique was a combination of hands-on and digital techniques, helping to add a depth and rich texture to all aspects of the work. Generating all aspects of the work was a very involved process, especially in ensuring all parts worked together in a way that would be fun for children. Words and images by Bailey Fort.
