    This indicator helps you understand the degree of smoothnessof one wheel with respect to another thanks, for example,to the use of high performance the CULT ceramic ballbearings, or the USB ceramic ball bearings, or thanks toother technologies applied to the wheel such as 2-Way Fit.

    This is the agility and reactivity of the wheel in changingdirection at a given impulse on the part of the rider. Thisindicator depends on the geometry of the spokes and of thehub, and on the cross-section of the rim, the materials used,and the type of tire.

    Indicates the performance features of the wheel in terms ofits propensity to penetrate the air. This factor depends onthe height and profile of the rim, the section and form of thespokes, and the degrees of camber of the wheel.

    How ready and quick is the wheel in response to yourchange of pace on the pedals?The reactivity index of the wheel refers precisely to thisconcept. Reactivity depends on the weight of the rim and ofthe wheel in its entirety, on the torsional stiffness (i.e. howmuch the wheel deforms around the hub at the momentin which the cyclist pushes on the pedals), the flexionalstiffness (i.e. the extent to which the wheel maintains itsshape along its axis when it is shifted, due to the push onthe pedal, from the vertical axis), and on inertia.

    Not all aluminium/carbon wheels are identical. Even for this range of wheels

    Fulcrum demanded top performance levels, pursuing clearly challenging projecttargets.

    RESPONSIVENESS

    The aluminium/carbon wheels have been manufacturedwith technical details that make them incredibly responsiveto a cyclists change in pace:

    - Oversize Flange: the size of right flange of the

    rear wheel has been designed in order to maximise thetransmission of power to the wheel and to increase thetensional rigidity and overall responsiveness of the wheel.

    - Special spoking: the double spokes on the right sideof the rear wheel and the exclusive spoking system byFulcrum allow to increase the lateral stiffness of the wheel,thus increasing the energy transferred from the cyclist to thewheel. This system, also reduces the stress of the spokeson the sprocket set side and keeps the wheel steady andbalanced even at fast speed or in the case of heavier cyclists.

    - Straight-head spokes: they increase the responsivenessof the wheel thanks to the possibility to set high values for

    the tension of the spokes, by also maintaining these hightensions over time.

    - DRSC Technology: the Directional Rim-SpokeCoupling system allows to obtain a perfect alignment for therim, nipples, spokes and hub. This allows to eliminate anytensions between the components and to obtain high spoketension values. In terms of performance, this means greaterresponsiveness and maintaining these values over time.

    Maximum technology has also been applied to this new range of wheels. Fulcrum has indeed designed these wheels by setting 4clear objectives to be able to achieve maximum performance and reliability:

    SMOOTHNESS WEIGHT

    AERODYNAMICS

    The Fulcrum

    wheels have always distinguished themselvesfor being extremely smooth. The Red Wind wheels retainthis property thanks to the leading-edge technology of thematerials used and the technical solutions that the FulcrumR&D is able to design.

    - CULT technology: 9 times smoother compared totraditional bearings thanks to the special steel treatmentof the cup/cone (CRONITECT technology developed bySchoeffler) and thanks to the best ceramic balls availableon the bicycle market. This technology allows to avoidlubricating grease, which is replaced exclusively by a filmof oil and also allows to maintain performance over timethanks to the absence of corrosion.

    - USB technology: using the best ceramic bearingsallows to reduce friction, increase smoothness and maintainperformance over time.

    - Exclusive bearing adjustment system: the systemdesigned by Fulcrum to adjust the bearings allows foreasy and immediate maintenance; it also allows the races/bearings to always maintain the correct position, eliminatingpossible clearance between the components in friction.

    - Cone/cup system: there is always an optimal angleof contact between the balls and the cup/cone. As well asincreasing smoothness,this also maintains performance over

    time.

    Although these are wheels dedicated to fast competitionsand time trial, Fulcrum did not want to compromise onperformance. In this case its long-standing experience interms of wheels and carbon fibre components, was extremelyuseful to develop the new aluminium/carbon wheels.The result is definitely significant and positions the high-profile wheels amongst the best in terms of weight.This result was made possible thanks to the mouldingtechnology of the rim, which requires no priming and allowsto reduce the weight of the carbon profile to a minimum.The hub to has been designed to minimise weight and, inthe XLR version, has been lightened thanks to the use ofaluminium.

    Not just maximum aerodynamic penetration, but alsomanoeuvrability in the presence of cross winds.

    - The profile of the rim has been conceived and designedin collaboration with the top Triathlon and Time Trialathletes and optimised thanks to computerised simulationresearch. Aerodynamics has been optimised thanks to theaerodynamic profile of the rim, especially where the spokesare attached, their aerodynamic profile and their positionwith respect to the rim.This all led to the goal of making the wheel extremelyaerodynamic in any situation. But for Fulcrum this is not

    enough. The Red Wind wheels have been designed to beeasy to handle and safe even with cross winds. Thanks tosimulations it was possible to understand which areas hadmore interference in the case of cross winds. To reduce thesenegative effects to a minimum, the design of the rim, thespokes and the hub have been done to minimise interferencemaking the high-profile wheels adequate to any situation.

    Tubeless technology was first used by the auto industry , thenby motorcycles and now has reached the cycling industry.

    After its debut with mountain bikes the moment has cometo put it on the road, and thats what we propose to do.We have developed our 2-Way Fit technology to ensurethe perfect compatibility of our tubeless rims with normalclincher types and tubes. 2-Way Fit wheels are perfectlymultipurpose for tackling every situation.

    Thanks to a special impression in the valve area, the tubesare fitted with the maximum precision while keeping the

    tube perfectly stable inside the tyre. Housing the valvefor tubeless tyres is also risk-free, with the unquestionableadvantage that there are never any air infiltrations causedby non-ideal positioning when fitting.

    The advantages are indisputable: our tests have highlightedan unique increase in smoothness. Because there is no tube,the friction caused by rubbing against the tyre is eliminated,while the perfect adherence of the tyre to the rim preventsthe dispersion of energy.

    Heres the interface between the tubeless tyre and therim. The form we have studied for our rims with Ultra-FitTubeless technology means that the sides of the tyre mateperfectly with the shoulders of the rim when it is fitted.The result is exceptionally smooth: for whizzing speedilywithout tubes!

    The concept is simple and elegant: balance the weight of thegasket, with an item of similar weight placed on the exactopposite side. For top models, this is obtained by a specialoperation on the section of the rim opposite the rim joint.

    For entry-level models, Dynamic Balance is obtained byusing two oversized spokes in the section opposite the joint.The result is a wheel with perfectly balanced rotationaldynamics.

    RIM Dynamic Balance Carbon Wheels

    For carbon wheels the principle is the same, but appliedusing a different technology. When making carbon rims, thepieces of carbon fabric are aligned in such a manner thatthe resulting rim is always balanced.

    The weight of the rim joint is balanced at the opposed end by theunfilled valve seat. The weight is thereby balanced and the rim is

    stable and balanced even at high speeds.

    The principle is always the same: balance the weight at everypoint of the rim. In this case the rim joint is balanced by 2 spokeswith a different weight than the rest.

    2:1 Two-to-One Spoke RatioWhen you push on the pedals, the rotational force on the

    sprocket induces a slackening of the freewheel spokes witha consequent loss of rim tension.     Behind this project is the exclusiveness of Cronitect

    steel;using Advanced by FAG technology by Schaeffler Groupemployed for the bearing races.This is steel which takes resistance to corrosion to the highestlevel; to the point that, no grease is necessary for lubrication,just a small amount of oil.

    The top quality ceramic balls, thanks to the absence oflubricating grease and the precision machining of the cup/cone, allow to drastically reduce the friction coefficient andthus increase the smoothness of the wheel by as much as 9times compared to standard bearings.An outstanding result achieved by using cutting-edgetechnologies in the field of materials processing.

The Fulcrum Quick Release projectstarted with a very clear objective:the maximum performance in terms of easy assembly/disassembly, weight, smoothness of the wheel, but withoutcompromising safety in any way.

We developed these cups sothat we wouldnt have to modify the distinctive performancefeatures and lightness of the Racing Torq crankset. TheOS-Fit cups simply replace the standard Racing Torqcups and have the same bearing seat function.OS-Fit cups are available in versions compatible withbottom bracket shells with 86.5 mm diameter and with BB30bottom brackets, and are 20 grams lighter than the standard

    cups. A special tool is required for fitting the OS-Fit cups.
